Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

Silas Blackwood’s lips moved. ”It’s me, Silas Blackwood.”

The tone on the other end of the line shifted instantly. ”Silas Blackwood, what do you want? Why do you have my uncle’s phone? What are you trying to pull? Are you still trying to get back at me?”

’This really is Ivy Sherwood.’ Silas Blackwood was speechless.

”Where are you?”

”Why should I tell you?” With that, the person on the other end irritably hung up.

Everyone had heard the conversation loud and clear. The others began to murmur, ”So that really wasn’t Ivy Sherwood.”

”Then who fed me that fake tip? That’s outrageous! What do they take us for?”

”Our apologies, President Blackwood. We honestly had no idea. We were tricked, too.”

The others began to apologize one after another. Now, everyone was convinced that this woman was not Ivy Sherwood.

Quentin Blackwood took the phone back from the stunned Silas Blackwood. Then, in the tone of an elder lecturing a junior, he said, ”I warned you before to use your brain. Don’t come rushing out here without any evidence, just letting yourself be used as a pawn.”

Silas Blackwood stood silently in the face of the scolding. ’Could it be that this really isn’t Ivy Sherwood?’

Seeing Silas Blackwood like this, Ivy Sherwood almost started to feel sorry for him. However, a man like him wasn’t worthy of sympathy. He deserved it!

Zane Linton was the one who had someone delete the surveillance footage. He had also taken Ivy Sherwood’s phone at that time.

Quentin Blackwood was a man with a sharp mind, nothing like the fool Silas Blackwood was. When he did something, he had already thought through all the consequences and ensured his plan was flawless.

Quentin had deliberately guided Silas into making that call precisely to confirm, in front of everyone, that Ivy Sherwood was elsewhere.

The person on the phone was just a sound-alike Zane Linton had found. Obviously, no one would think of that possibility, and the crisis was successfully defused.

”As for your shares, remember to transfer them to Ivy Sherwood when you get back. I’ll have someone draft the transfer agreement. All you’ll need to do is sign.”

After speaking, Quentin Blackwood turned to the media. ”If anyone dares to leak a single word of what happened today, I guarantee they won’t see tomorrow’s sun.”

The reporters felt a menacing aura emanate from him. Quentin Blackwood wasn’t joking, and no one dared to challenge his authority.

They all nodded repeatedly. ”Rest assured, President Blackwood. We woke up this morning, went to work, and didn’t go anywhere else. We didn’t see anything, and we didn’t hear anything.”

Their cameras were still in the room, but no one dared to go back and get them.

Everyone watched in unison as Quentin Blackwood left with the woman and entered the elevator.

The elevator doors closed, and the media could finally breathe again. They had been scared to death just now, and for a moment, no one dared to even discuss the incident.

Just then, they heard something fall. Turning around, they saw that Silas Blackwood had fainted on the ground.

They rushed forward. ”Young Master Blackwood! Young Master Blackwood!”

Then they hurriedly called an ambulance to take Silas Blackwood to the hospital.

...

Down in the underground parking garage, the driver had already opened the car door. Quentin Blackwood said coldly, ”Get in.”

It wasn’t the first time she had been in Quentin’s car, so Ivy Sherwood didn’t hesitate and got right in.

Quentin got in as well and closed the door.

The car started. Quentin didn’t say where they were going, but the driver, already understanding him, drove forward.

No one spoke. The car was filled with an awkward silence.

The atmosphere was so heavy that Ivy Sherwood couldn’t help but secretly lift her head and glance at the profile of the man beside her.

Quentin’s profile was truly exceptional, from his high-bridged nose to his deep-set brow. A cool air emanated from him. The man seemed to be waiting for her to offer an explanation.

”Uncle, thank you.” She really should thank her uncle.

If not for Quentin, she couldn’t have escaped so cleanly, with those people having no suspicions at all.

”Is there nothing you want to say to me?” Quentin turned to look at her.

There was indeed something to say, but she didn’t know where to begin.

Ivy Sherwood bit her lip. ”Silas Blackwood’s shares are useless to me. You should take them, Uncle.”

”If I tell you to take them, you take them.”

Quentin Blackwood couldn’t care less about that small amount of money.

Besides, with shares of the Blackwood Group in hand, Ivy Sherwood would have some leverage when she wanted to break off the engagement. As for how she used that leverage, that was her own business.

He was rather interested in watching her struggle, to watch her fight against fate.

”I... I...” Ivy Sherwood’s lips parted, and she finally said, ”Actually, this is what I really look like. Ever since I can remember, my mother started teaching me how to do my makeup, telling me where to put the little dots on my face.”

”I didn’t understand back then, why I had to put all that dark makeup on my face, but my mom said I would understand when I grew up. She also told me never to let anyone see my real face. So all these years, I’ve used makeup techniques to make myself look like someone else.”

After she grew up, Ivy Sherwood came to understand her mother’s intentions.

There was nothing wrong with being beautiful. What was wrong was the world, filled with people with ill intentions. They destroyed the fairness and justice of the world, turning beauty into something fatal.

You can never tell what’s in a person’s heart. To live an ordinary, unremarkable life is sometimes a luxury.

”I didn’t mean to deceive you. Besides Nina, nobody knows about this, not even Timothy Sherwood. I rarely appear with this face. I just didn’t expect it to be such a coincidence that I run into you every time. Would you say this counts as fate?”

Thinking about it now, Ivy Sherwood found it incredible. Ever since Quentin Blackwood came to Lustre, it seemed she ran into him every time she reverted to her true appearance.

The first time was at the Scott Family’s home, then after she drank too much at the opening of her business, Iris, and then later when she walked the runway.

”Uncle, I believe everyone has secrets they can’t share with others. I’m sure you have them too. You’re such a good person, you won’t blame me, right?”

Quentin listened to her cautious and flattering tone. ”...”

’She really knew how to put him on the spot. First, she praised him, and then she asked him not to blame her.’

’Did she think calling him a ”good person” was enough?’

”Is that so? Where am I good? Give me some examples.” Quentin wanted details.

”You’re imp—” Seeing Quentin’s face darken instantly, Ivy rushed to explain, ”Uh, that’s not what I meant!”

She had meant to say it was impossible to list them all, but how had it come out like...

She had said so much before and Quentin was still angry, but these two words seemed to have suddenly made his face turn black.

Ivy Sherwood knew this man was easy to coax, so she began to list them off. ”What I mean is, you have too many good qualities, I can’t even list them all. For example, you’re handsome and kind-hearted, your bark is worse than your bite, and you’re extremely capable. A good man like you, Uncle... you don’t give other men a chance at all.”

A slight smile touched the corners of Quentin’s lips. ”Is that so? Then compared to the man you like, who’s better? Who’s more... potent?”
