Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 370: Chapter 249: Escape and Hunt (Part 2)

At this moment, sporadic gunshots came from the distant jungle, clearly indicating that other teams were also engaging with these ”Sacrificial Priests”.

Perhaps it was his ointment that worked, his face regained some sensation.

From numbness to itching and pain.

”Captain, should we keep going forward?”

Pang Tu rolled his eyes and stopped speaking forcefully, pointing in the direction of the gunshots, quickly moving in that direction.

Ten minutes later, Pang Tu and Mountain Goat converged.

As soon as they met, a wave of mockery was received.

Mountain Goat’s side had a fruitful battle, killing as many as five Sacrificial Priests.

Pang Tu said irritably, ”Why laugh, I am a doctor, your ability is like cheating, if you hadn’t activated your ability and met them, you might have failed.”

Mountain Goat laughed, ”Who the hell fights him head-on, this is not a patrol duty; I directly suppress him across levels, see those three, they were taken out by a single grenade.”

Just as Pang Tu was about to speak, he saw Mountain Goat’s eyes turn dull, and he jumped up, with the rifle in his hand not wobbling at all.

They relaxed a little upon hearing bi-syllabic bird chirps from the jungle.

This was the code they established before setting off, to avoid friendly fire.

A man wearing a standard armed soldier’s raincoat emerged from the jungle, his nose sharp like a hawk, with a lean demeanor.

It was Lu Xiao.

”You got injured too?” Mountain Goat asked.

Lu Xiao glanced around, pointed at the corpse on the ground, and said, ”This one escaped from our side, I chased him a bit further.”

Pang Tu lowered his gun, casually asked, ”How many did you kill? Any tough ones?”

”Three, all ordinary people, got confused when they saw the gun muzzle, this one realized things were bad and ran, forcing me to chase further.”

Lu Xiao shook his head, a noise came from behind, Miao Qi and Xiaoma arrived with their team.

”Be careful, there are many Evolvers among them, and those using poison, they’re very different from the previous survivors.” Pang Tu reminded.

Lu Xiao glanced at his wounded face, nodded in agreement.

”Keep pushing forward, aim to rendezvous with the main column before nightfall.”

Mountain Goat finished speaking and led the way into the jungle.

He didn’t adopt Pang Tu’s tactical movement, with his ”Probability Judgment” ability, he only needed to advance quickly, his ability would naturally handle the recon.

Pang Tu’s squad followed behind.

Lu Xiao changed direction, continuing the push-forward mission.

...

A battered figure fled through the jungle.

Shoes slipped off during the run, turning onto the ankles, but the person dared not stop, occasionally pulling messy hair out of their eyes, revealing a terrified expression, stepping deeper into the jungle haphazardly.

Only when they found a big tree did they breathe a sigh of relief, leaning against the trunk and breathing heavily.

”You think that because this is their territory, I wouldn’t dare enter?”

A cold voice came from above.

The man felt as if he had fallen into an ice cave, stiffly raised his head.

Above, a pair of eerie green and bright yellow beast eyes were curiously observing him, one pair extraordinarily large and round.

”Bang!”

The mongoose jumped down from the tree, landing directly on the man’s shoulder, toppling him to the ground, pulling out a pistol, pressing it against his occiput, triggering before the begging words came out.

The small figures on the tree seemed startled by the gunshot.

After a long time, finding no danger, they peeked out their fluffy heads to look at the mongoose.

A group of black-gray ”Kitties”.

These kitties were exceptionally petite, but unlike ordinary kittens who are naive, each had lively eyes, agile movements, jumping among the canopy even more swiftly than adult big cats.

They were rulers of this area.

Managing here so thoroughly that not even an insect remains.

Anything that moved was caught by them.

Perhaps due to beast transformation, these little creatures did not attack the mongoose.

But showed not much enthusiasm either, merely accepting her presence near their territory.

The mongoose searched the man, noticed a firmly grasped hand, stepped on it with her military boot, crushing it to reveal a crimson crystal inside.

The mongoose’s beast eyes narrowed.

This was discovered during her third kill, but its size was far smaller than the one in the man’s hand.

When the man was pushed to his limits, he bit down and swallowed this thing.

Suddenly heightened battle strength, more exaggerated than adrenaline.

Somewhat like an instant beast transformation effect.

She guessed it was a kind of dangerous new material, planned to take it back to the train for experts to examine.

Before understanding it thoroughly, she wasn’t about to consume such unknown items.

Stowing the crystal, the mongoose flashed a radiantly bright smile towards the tree crown and turned to walk towards another direction.

”I’m leaving.”

Initially, the mongoose rejected such pure hunting tasks.

Tortured by He Jie for so long, she still held onto her own beliefs.

But after witnessing these Sacrificial Priests frenetically hunting each other, the mongoose temporarily set aside her moral constraints.

Suppressing violence with violence, what harm in it being a virtue?

The mutated forest, perilous to others, felt like home to her.

With barely any techniques, she instinctively melded with the forest, naturally discerning where mutant beasts and plants were located.

The remaining few were determined using jungle warfare tips taught by He Jie.

This man was already her twelfth target.

Old Wu over there was even more straightforward.

As a professional soldier, he had no morals whatsoever.

Before exhausting a base of ammunition, he had already wiped out over thirty people!

Since the Sacrificial Ritual started from the west, personnel was denser on this side.

But now, he had emptied it.

The combat group’s equipment was inherently better than the Armed Corps, with nearly unlimited ammo allocations, plus it was a short-term mission, as a precaution, Old Wu carried forty magazines.

Sixteen hundred rounds!

Sufficient to cover all participants and have a base left to shoot birds.

Amidst this slaughter, fewer participants survived the New Eden escape hunt.

...

The resort hotel on Tide Watching Island was one of the few intact structures on the island.

Others were either invaded by mutant plants, or remodeled into shambles by survivors, nothing like their original state.

Only this standalone luxury resort hotel roughly maintained its pre-apocalypse form.

Only two shattered glass panels lent a touch of decay to the hotel.

The Second Priest sat on the luxurious sofa, holding a tall champagne glass filled with red wine, shaking it leisurely.

Three trusted aides played cards in the living room, a tall, thin figure stood quietly in the room’s corner, as silent as death.

”How many are left?”

The Second Priest suddenly asked.

One of the aides closed his eyes abruptly, after some time, surprisedly spoke, ”Just over a thousand left.”

The Second Priest’s eyes brightened, ”Only a thousand left, this batch is of such high quality? Are those few key marked ones still alive?”

”Two are dead, three are alive.”

The Second Priest drank his glass of wine in one gulp, excitedly stood up, ”Not bad, not bad, only through more intense slaughter can stronger warriors be selected for my use.”

The aide glanced at the figure in the room’s corner, joked, ”Those fools thought it was to appease the gods, little did they know, you are the god!”

Another aide agreed, ”We should spare the trouble of organizing rituals, just let the priest choose directly.”

The Second Priest coldly said, ”What do you know, there are too many people on the island, not enough resources for them all, only through slaughter can the strongest Death God be selected.”

The three aides chuckled.

The Second Priest looked out the window into the dense forest, suddenly feeling a jump in his chest.

He felt a sense of unease.

”By the way, what is the High Priest doing now?”

An aide hesitated, ”That old woman has lost her mind, constantly mumbling about the prophecy of the god’s agent...”

The Second Priest calmly said, ”Go check on her.”
