Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 684: Chapter 664: An Encounter in a Narrow Path, He Juncai (23)

”Mom, what about... He Juncai’s parents?” She had intended to call them by their names directly, but after hesitating, she decided against it. She really couldn’t bring herself to address those two as Uncle and Auntie.

”They? They’re probably still at the police station, right? We didn’t lay a hand on them, so they can’t blame us,” said Huang Yueran.

He Wenyu looked at Luo Qianqian, raised an eyebrow, Luo Qianqian shook her head slightly.

”Ah, then you should go to sleep,” He Wenyu said, with an expression of relief.

Huang Yueran hung up the phone and drifted off into a drowsy sleep.

He Jun heard a noise and asked, ”Who was it?”

”Our daughter, asking why we didn’t call to tell her we got home,” Huang Yueran yawned before burying herself back under the covers.

He Jun wrapped his arms around Huang Yueran and they both slipped back into a sweet slumber.

”They’re still at the police station? Then... where did He Juncai go?” He Wenyu had a stunned look on her face. If she couldn’t reach her parents by phone, she would certainly have called the police by now, suspecting He Juncai was on the run from a crime. But it was strange, someone had answered the phone at home.

”And, He Juncai thanked you???” Luo Qianqian’s mouth twitched slightly, ”I think you must be dreaming right now, otherwise how could you dream up something like this?”

”I’m dreaming?” He Wenyu was taken aback and stretched out her hand to pinch her own face, crying out in shock, ”Ouch, that hurts, aren’t dreams supposed to be painless?”

”Probably... your brain is tricking you,” Luo Qianqian said with a twitch of her mouth, she was just making a casual remark, who knew He Wenyu would actually take it seriously? ”Why don’t you call him again and ask?”

”Ask what? Where he’s gone? What he’s doing?” He Wenyu pouted, realizing she had been teased by Luo Qianqian just now, ”I don’t want to know at all. Besides, I’m afraid in the future I might even avoid the city where he is.”

”Tsk tsk, okay then, since you’re curious, why not ask him where he’s going, if he has enough money or stuff like that...” Luo Qianqian suggested helplessly, really at a loss for words. After all, He Juncai had once bullied them, and the fact that she hadn’t sought revenge was already a very generous act. What else did they expect her to do?

”Fine... but if he truly needs something, you’re paying,” He Wenyu acquiesced, a bit curious as to what exactly was going on with He Juncai that made her itch to know.

Luo Qianqian nodded helplessly.

He Wenyu made a call, and it was hung up???

Both of them listened to the message on the phone, ”Sorry, the number you are calling is currently busy...” They both felt a bit at a loss.

”What’s going on???” Luo Qianqian’s mouth fell open with surprise, it was clear her call had been deliberately disconnected.

He Wenyu rolled her eyes, ”You’re asking me? Who am I supposed to ask?”

”Huh?” However, shortly after, He Wenyu’s phone rang again. She instinctively pressed the answer button, then held the phone to her ear, ”He Juncai, where exactly are you going... I mean, do you have enough money?”

”Why are you pulling me?” He Wenyu looked at Luo Qianqian with a disgusted expression as she tugged at her arm, immediately frowning with confusion.

”That’s a message.”

He Wenyu was instantly embarrassed; no wonder she couldn’t hear anything.

She opened the message and saw just one line of text: The letter is at the front desk downstairs, left under your name, goodbye, cousin. Thanks, and sorry.

???!!!

”I must be dreaming!!!” He Wenyu threw her phone aside and rubbed her eyes, ”Or there’s something wrong with my eyes!!!”

”Then perhaps... I have a problem with my eyes too?” Luo Qianqian’s mouth twitched.

He Juncai is calling He Wenyu ”cousin”??? If that wasn’t the sun rising in the west, then it must be raining red from the sky.

”What letter?” He Wenyu immediately reacted, picked up her phone, and frowned slightly.

Luo Qianqian was stunned for a moment, ”Get dressed, let’s go down and have a look.”

He Wenyu was startled and still a bit nervous, ”You don’t think it’s him downstairs luring us down so he can kidnap us and threaten my mom and dad for money, do you?”

”...Do you think this is some dark alley? Besides, there’s surveillance here, even if he did want money, he wouldn’t have anywhere to spend it,” Luo Qianqian said as she entered the bathroom to wash her face and brush her teeth, and then put on her coat, ”Hurry up.”

”Oh oh oh,” He Wenyu hurriedly brushed her teeth and washed her face, then put on her coat and followed Luo Qianqian downstairs.

The front desk downstairs wasn’t busy, only two staff on duty, after all, it wasn’t even dawn yet.

”Hello, can I help you with anything?” Seeing the two of them, the front desk immediately perked up, the four guests who had been staying in the presidential suite these past few days—how could they not be emphasized by the management to not offend them—immediately put on a smile.

”He Wenyu, has anyone left a letter for this person?” Luo Qianqian asked directly.

He Wenyu, still looking around in the back, always felt like someone was watching.

”Yes, there is.”

A yellow kraft paper envelope was handed to Luo Qianqian, without a trace of suspicion.

After all, it had been only about ten minutes since the letter had arrived in their hands before someone came down to collect it, the name was also correct, and most importantly, these guests were from the presidential suite, they wouldn’t possibly deceive someone over a letter, right? The boy who delivered the letter did not look like someone wealthy.

Luo Qianqian didn’t open it immediately, but thanked the two staff and then returned to the room with He Wenyu.

Only after wrecking their own room did they sit together on the bed and open the envelope.

As soon as the envelope was opened and the letter was taken out, one hundred yuan fell out along with a bank card, leaving Luo Qianqian stunned for a moment.

The letter was only one page, and although the handwriting was ugly, it didn’t affect the reading:

He Wenyu, dearest cousin:

Cousin, I think this is the first time I’ve called you that.

Having been away for so long, even my parents would show disdain when seeing I have no money, I didn’t expect you would be willing to give me money. Thank you, really.

As a child, I thought I was the most important, that everyone had to make way for me, but it wasn’t until I was out on my own that I realized this kind of attitude could get a person killed even faster.

Actually, I’m quite envious of you, the way our parents educated you without any deviation.

Because of that skewed education, I spent three years in juvenile detention and it was there that I truly understood the significance of family to a person’s existence.

That day, you were willing to give me money, and I was truly moved.

I’m not short of money, but I can’t say that, because its origins are not clear.

For my parents, all I can say is I’m sorry, but not everyone around you is truly sincere to you.

Like that boyfriend of yours who would insult you, I’ve already taught him a lesson, consider it the last thing I can do for you as your brother.

For what happened to grandma and little brother, I can only apologize, it was unintended, but the person can’t come back.

Last of all, there’s fifty thousand yuan in the card, buy a small courtyard for mom and dad back home, the password is grandma’s birthday.

I hope you can grow up happy and healthy.

He Juncai

Luo Qianqian and He Wenyu looked at each other, what exactly was going on???
