Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 665: Chapter 645: Narrow Path Encounter, He Juncai (Part 4)

”Are you doing this for money or for lust?” He Wenyu continued to dwell on this issue after calling Father He.

”It depends on who is targeting you.” Luo Qianqian pursed her lips: ”If you ask me, you should tell different people different things. If the information from one side gets leaked, then you’ll know who did it.”

”Good idea, but... what kind of information do they want to know?” He Wenyu looked perplexed: ”Is it where you go every day? Besides you, nobody knows that, since you act like you’re crazy, going wherever you want on a whim.”

Luo Qianqian rolled her eyes, now seeing the term ’crazy’ as the worst insult, with the experience of the Lin Family still fresh in her mind.

Speaking of the Lin Family, Luo Qianqian frowned. Now her back felt no pain or discomfort at all, which seemed incredibly unbelievable.

She hadn’t been back to the hospital either, since the stitches were removed, and there was no discomfort in the wound.

”What are you thinking about?” He Wenyu nudged Luo Qianqian: ”Did you hear what I said?”

”Huh? What did you say?” Luo Qianqian blinked and immediately asked.

He Wenyu slumped his shoulders in resignation: ”You really didn’t hear? ... I said, did He Juncai want to kill me or just trade me for some money?”

”Kill you? That’s murder, right? He wouldn’t do that, would he?” Luo Qianqian shook her head hastily, thinking even the idea was too morbid for daytime contemplation.

”He’s not inexperienced in killing; think about that unknown child and the annoying old lady.” He Wenyu spoke solemnly, then shrank back, ”Maybe I should just stick with you? It might be safer... There’s always a senior brother who can kick a fat woman flying.”

”They’re dead; you shouldn’t add those adjectives.” Luo Qianqian sighed. How was being around her any safer? Thinking about the last incident still gave her chills, but coincidentally, it had also been Jimo Cheng who had rescued her from peril then.

”Is that the point?” He Wenyu rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, her demeanor nonchalant: ”If I were a boy, I’d just beat up anyone who tried anything on me.”

”Can’t girls do that too?” Luo Qianqian pursed her lips: ”You haven’t become silly from being in love, have you?”

”Girls... ultimately have to maintain their image,” He Wenyu sighed. For the sake of being a lady, how many things had she given up? She had forsaken her favorite black, white, and grey, forcing herself to wear those cutesy colors.

”People who like you will like you no matter what you are like,” Luo Qianqian seemed to see through He Wenyu’s thoughts and spoke softly from the side: ”Those who don’t like you won’t be won over by anything you do, no matter how much effort you put in.”

He Wenyu raised an eyebrow, grabbing Luo Qianqian’s arm: ”Who told you ’let’s just leave it at that’? Xu Tianyi? I don’t think he would...”

”What are you thinking?” Luo Qianqian laughed, waving her hand: ”That’s how it’s written in novels.”

”Tch.” He Wenyu felt relieved and after a moment looked at Luo Qianqian again: ”So, what are you pretending in front of your senior brother? Afraid he won’t like you?”

Luo Qianqian curved her lips: ”I don’t want him to dislike me, so I have to try hard to be everyone’s fair lady; I must do this.”

”Right.” He Wenyu’s eyes sparkled: ”What about setting another trap?”

”What plan?” Luo Qianqian looked at He Wenyu in confusion. Was this kid’s thinking jumping too fast?

”Have you forgotten? We used ’debt’ to drive that family away before, how about we release news that our family owes money now?” He Wenyu’s face was filled with excitement. ”I feel like if it’s about money, we can definitely lure them out.”

Luo Qianqian’s mouth twitched slightly, the words were true, but such a scheme would probably take a lot of time.

As they spoke, they had already reached the car. The window was fully rolled down, and Jimo Cheng sat in the passenger seat reading an unknown book, his profile clear, his features illuminated by the light and shadows, causing Luo Qianqian to stare somewhat absentmindedly.

”You don’t need to stare at your senior brother like that,” He Wenyu teased in a low voice, tugging at Luo Qianqian.

”What?” Luo Qianqian quickly averted her gaze, just as Jimo Cheng heard the noise and turned around, flashing Luo Qianqian a smile and closing his book.

”Senior brother,” Luo Qianqian greeted awkwardly, having been caught red-handed by her friend while sneakily watching him.

”Yeah, get in,” Jimo Cheng said. ”Are you hungry? What would you like to eat?”

After getting into the car, Luo Qianqian touched her stomach and nodded honestly; they really hadn’t had a chance to eat anything yet, and it was just past noon: ”Anything’s fine, as long as it fills the stomach.”

He Wenyu looked at the back of Jimo Cheng’s head and then at Luo Qianqian’s face, sighing.

The car drove smoothly on the road, and those paying attention might notice that it was going a bit faster than usual.

”How about we find someone to pretend to be an investor and then transfer all my family’s savings away?” He Wenyu was still immersed in his wild ideas from before. ”Or maybe buy some insurance or something? Though with insurance, it’s even more unpredictable what might happen...”

”What investment?” Jimo Cheng was baffled. How had only a moment passed and he was already unable to understand these two?

”Oh, like this,” He Wenyu glanced at Luo Qianqian, seeing her nod slightly before explaining: ”We’re trying to figure out why he’s approaching us. It’s either for money or desire. My family isn’t in power, so there’s no influence or authority. That leaves money. If we suddenly have no money and He Juncai still looks at me with that gaze, it must be because he’s into me. If he shifts his target after we lose money, then it’s definitely for the money.”

Even though it was all over the place, Jimo Cheng understood and was speechless at their way of thinking: ”Did you ever consider that it might be revenge? There must be some conflict between you, right?”

Luo Qianqian was shocked, could that really be a possibility? Pure revenge???

”But why would he then give a warning? Wouldn’t that be counterproductive, like alerting us unnecessarily?” He Wenyu shook his head, clearly confused.

”Whether it’s alerting us unnecessarily or being overly cautious, let’s not go into that, but according to what we did initially, it’s also possible...” and it could really mean he harbored murderous intentions. After all, Luo Qianqian had encountered many such people before, and it sent chills down her spine.

Could He Juncai be a hunter wanting to toy with his prey? Playing until satisfied before finishing them off? Like a cat that toys with a mouse in its paws, relishing the thrill of the chase, and when bored, eats it?

That can’t be right...

Luo Qianqian and He Wenyu looked at each other, reading the same emotion in each other’s eyes, panic.
