Chapter 69 – 66 A Generous Gift

“Many thanks, Old Doctor Chen, for your care all these days.”

In the Half Mountain Small Courtyard, Young Master Wei was being supported by servants from his home as he slightly bowed and expressed his gratitude to the elder doctor.

“There’s no need for such formalities, young master. Remember, once you return home, you should rest more, pay attention to your recuperation, and heal properly,” Old Doctor Chen advised.

“Zi’an has remembered.”

After expressing his thanks, Young Master Wei, supported by his servants, slowly entered a sedan chair.

His wounds hadn’t fully healed yet, and his body was still weak; he couldn’t be exposed to too much wind.

On the way back, he could only ride in a wind-blocking soft sedan chair to prevent illness from creeping in.

...
On the side, the Wei Family’s Housekeeper Wei saw this scene and subtly nodded his head.

These past days, he noticed that, after facing a life-and-death experience, Young Master Wei had become more composed and wasn’t as unruly as before.

In the past, getting him to thank a doctor was no easy task.

So, although he had faced a great disaster and nearly lost his life,

If Young Master Wei truly changed because of this, it could indeed be considered a blessing in disguise, not necessarily a bad thing.

After Young Master Wei entered the sedan chair, Housekeeper Wei took a step forward.

“Old Doctor Chen, this time, our family’s young master was fortunate to awaken and preserve his life. Now his health has also greatly improved, and no serious ailments were left. All thanks to Old Doctor Chen’s miraculous healing and compassionate medical skill.”

“For this, we at Wei Mansion are immeasurably grateful.”

“Here, we have some modest gifts prepared by our lady, as a token of gratitude for Old Doctor Chen’s care for our young master these past days.”

As he spoke, Housekeeper Wei gestured with his hand, and two guards brought over a large chest, while two others held various small boxes and packages.

Housekeeper Wei took a small box from one of the guards, opened it,

and only to be met by dazzling golden light, lay a row of shiny small gold ingots.

When he opened the large chest, silver light shone brightly; it was a large chest brimming with silver ingots.

“Old Doctor Chen, here are ten thousand taels of silver and a thousand taels of gold. Please kindly accept them.”

Old Doctor Chen, looking at the chest filled with gold and silver, showed little change in expression.

He sighed, “The Wei Mansion is truly too courteous. I’ve done nothing more than fulfill the duty of a doctor; I really cannot accept such a generous gift.”

“Old Doctor Chen is being too modest. Our Young Master holds a distinguished status and is especially dear to our lady. By curing the young master, you saved our lady’s life. These mere valuables represent only a fraction of Wei Mansion’s gratitude.”

“In addition to these valuables, there’s another gift that our lady has prepared for you, Old Doctor Chen.”

Saying this, Housekeeper Wei opened another box and took out a book.

“This copy of the ’Green Bag Medical Scripture’ was specifically sought for you by our lady.”

“What? The ’Green Bag Medical Scripture’?”

Old Doctor Chen, who had intended to decline further, suddenly exclaimed in shock.

“Is it the very ’Green Bag Medical Scripture’ written by the legendary Medical Saint?”

“Yes, indeed, it is the ’Green Bag Medical Scripture’ that encapsulates the lifelong dedication of the legendary Medical Saint,” Housekeeper Wei confirmed with a smile.

At this point, Old Doctor Chen found he could no longer utter words of refusal.

The ’Green Bag Medical Scripture’ attributed to the legendary Medical Saint had an immense allure for someone like him who was deeply devoted to the medical arts.

He had long revered this medical scripture.

Unfortunately, any family that obtained the ’Green Bag Medical Scripture’ would keep it secret as a family heirloom, never to be lightly shown to others.

And so, for the first half of his life, he never had the chance to behold this medical treasure that countless doctors had longed for.

Now, when he heard that the Wei Mansion was offering this scripture, Old Doctor Chen’s heart was entangled.

Housekeeper Wei saw the hesitation on Old Doctor Chen’s face.

With a clear laugh, he said, “Old Doctor Chen, why bother with such reservations? This ’Green Bag Medical Scripture’ can only show its true value in the hands of an eminent and compassionate physician like yourself.”

“Healing the sick and saving lives, aiding the wounded and dying—this is the creed of doctors.”

“I believe that when the Medical Saint originally wrote this book, he did not wish for his life’s work to be put away unused, but rather hoped it would save countless lives and help physicians better heal and treat patients.”

“With Old Doctor Chen’s medical skills, with the aid of this ’Green Bag Medical Scripture,’ your mastery could likely be further enhanced, and this would indeed be a fortunate thing for countless patients.”

Hearing this, Old Doctor Chen’s heart brightened.

He joyfully accepted the medical scripture and laughed, “The Grand Steward speaks the truth. It seems I, the old man, was being narrow-minded.”

Lu Qing, observing all of this, silently noted the adeptness.

This Housekeeper of Wei truly was extraordinary.

With just a few words, he had persuaded his master to accept the gratitude gift.

However, what Lu Qing did not anticipate was that

after offering the ’Green Bag Medical Scripture,’ Housekeeper Wei turned his gaze toward him.

“As for Young Master Lu and Miss Lu, our lady has also prepared a small token of appreciation for you.”

Lu Qing was startled, “Little Yan and I are getting a thank you gift as well?”

“Of course. When I heard that our Young Master Wei had just been brought in, Young Master Lu spent day and night in the pharmacy dispensing and boiling medicine, contributing a great deal. This act of kindness is naturally something we at the Wei Family cannot overlook.”

Housekeeper of Wei then opened another box.

“I have noticed that Young Master Lu is not only well-versed in medicine, but also extremely talented in the way of martial arts. At such a young age, he is already a Qi Blood Realm Martial Artist and I am sure that breaking through to the Muscle Bone Realm and stepping into the Internal Organ Realm will not be difficult for him.”

“As for medical expertise, with Elder Doctor Chen’s teaching, Young Master Lu is bound to have a smooth path ahead in medicine and becoming a great doctor is merely a matter of time. There is no need for us to gild the lily.”

“However, in the way of martial arts, talent is certainly important, but cultivation resources are also indispensable. Therefore, my lady has specifically prepared two thank you gifts for Young Master Lu.”

“This secret manual records a Muscle Bone Realm secret technique, and this bottle of elixir, called the Bone Forging Pill, is quite useful to Muscle Bone Realm martial artists.”

“It is like a small boost that my lady wishes to add to the path of Young Master Lu’s martial arts journey.”

The thank you gifts the Wei Family gave Lu Qing were actually a martial arts secret skill and a bottle of elixir, and both were only usable by someone in the Muscle Bone Realm.

“Bone Forging Pill?” Elder Doctor Chen was slightly surprised, “Is it the one that is said to be able to enhance the muscles and bones of a Muscle Bone Realm martial artist by thirty percent?”

“That is indeed the elixir. For ordinary Martial Arts Experts in the Muscle Bone Realm, once they cultivate to great success and their muscles and bones reach their limit, there is no further advancement, and they can only seek breakthroughs internally, in the Inner Organs,” replied Housekeeper of Wei.

“And this Bone Forging Pill can break this law, allowing even a Martial Arts Expert with muscles and bones at the limit to increase their strength by another thirty percent.”

Upon hearing this, Lu Qing realized how precious these two gifts were.

Setting aside the secret technique of the Muscle Bone Realm for a moment, the Bone Forging Pill was incredibly valuable.

An elixir that can break limits and enhance a martial artist’s foundation and potential was highly precious no matter where it was found.

In the eyes of some Muscle Bone Realm martial artists, the thank you gift given to him by the Wei Family was perhaps even more valuable than the one given to his master.

“Master.”

Feeling the value of the thank you gift, Lu Qing didn’t reach out to accept it immediately, but instead looked towards the elder doctor.

Elder Doctor Chen also felt that the gift was too valuable.

However, after thinking about it, he had accepted the “Green Bag Medical Scripture,” a medical treasure. Why then should he show such false modesty?

He nodded to Lu Qing, “Since it is the Wei Family’s kindness, you should accept it.”

Only then did Lu Qing reach out and take the box.

Seeing Lu Qing accept the thank you gift, Housekeeper of Wei showed a smile.

No one knew that the thank you gift for Lu Qing was actually his proposal to the lady.

During the period when Housekeeper of Wei stayed at the Half Mountain Small Courtyard to take care of Young Master Wei, he saw Lu Qing every day.

And then he discovered something astonishing.

Lu Qing was a genuine martial arts prodigy.

Although Lu Qing never cultivated in front of him, he could feel that the Qi-Blood Power within Lu Qing was more vigorous day by day.

The speed of his progress was shocking even to him, who was accustomed to seeing all kinds of talented youths.

Especially when he heard from villagers occasionally coming from Seven Li Village to seek medical treatment, that Lu Qing had only been officially accepted as Elder Doctor Chen’s disciple for just over a month, his astonishment grew even greater.

He realized that Lu Qing’s talent for martial arts might be even more exaggerated than he had imagined.

After realizing this, Housekeeper of Wei immediately considered how to form a good relationship with this rare martial arts prodigy.

Therefore, the Wei Family sent such generous thank you gifts this time.

Not only to thank Elder Doctor Chen for saving their young master’s life,

But more so, they wished to foster a good relationship with this master-disciple pair.

For the Wei Family, if they could win the favor of a great doctor and a future Martial Arts Expert by offering some resources,

Then this investment would be hugely profitable.

After presenting the thank you gift to Lu Qing, the next gift for Little Yan was much simpler.

It was just some trinkets and clothing that girls like, not cheap but much more ordinary compared to what Lu Qing received.

“Elder Doctor Chen, Young Master Lu, may we meet by chance again in the future. We shall escort the young master back first. Should you visit the county in the future, be sure to come to our Wei Mansion as guests, so we can properly play host.”

After sending off all the gifts, Housekeeper Wei bowed.

“If my disciple and I do visit the county, we will certainly pay a visit. Please take care on your journey back,” said the elder doctor.

“Thank you for your kind words.”

Housekeeper of Wei bowed once more to Elder Doctor Chen and Lu Qing before turning.

He commanded the guards, “Set off for home!”

At his command, the guards immediately sprang into action.

A few tall Muscle Bone Realm guards each grabbed a side of the palanquin and lifted gently, walking down the mountain.

The mountain path was uneven, but the palanquin was held very steady under the control of the guards, almost without any jolting.

As everyone descended, Housekeeper Wei, bringing up the rear, bowed once again to Lu Qing and Elder Doctor Chen before setting off down the mountain.

The elder doctor wanted to refuse, but Housekeeper Wei was exceptionally resolute in his stance.
