Chapter 64 – 61: The Gift of a Knife

“Master, please eat something first.”

Lu Qing brought in some food.

Due to Young Master Wei’s dire condition, the elder doctor had to standby at all times, barely able to leave the sick room.

Lu Qing went to the kitchen to prepare some food and brought it over.

“Um, just set it here, I’ll eat it later.”

Old Doctor Chen was taking Young Master Wei’s pulse, his brow slightly furrowed.

At that moment, Guard Li was arranging things outside; only the master and apprentice and the unconscious Young Master Wei were in the sick room.

...
Lu Qing pondered for a moment and asked, “Master, can we save this young master?”

“It’s hard to say.” Old Doctor Chen sighed, “He’s lost too much blood. When he was brought in, there was hardly any blood left in his body. If not for his strong constitution and the life-saving medicine Guard Li and the others administered, he probably wouldn’t have survived the journey here.”

“Master, considering this young master’s background, it seems quite extraordinary. If he doesn’t wake up, will the Wei Family take their anger out on us?” Lu Qing asked.

The elder doctor paused for a moment.

Then he turned to Lu Qing and said, “Ah Qing, remember, as doctors, when treating diseases and healing people, the most taboo thing is to hesitate and second-guess oneself.”

“If you decide to save someone, then you must concentrate all your efforts on the treatment, as this is the medical ethics.”

“If you don’t want to treat someone, then you should leave and ignore the matter right from the start.”

“But, once you start treatment, you should do your best not to give up halfway, lest you feel guilty.”

“Disciple remembers,” Lu Qing earnestly replied.

“As for what you’re worried about…” Old Doctor Chen paused for a moment before saying, “Rest assured, the Wei Family is a major clan, and the Wei Family Master is not an unreasonable person. We are merely treating and saving people. Even if Young Master Wei really meets with misfortune, they cannot justly blame us.”

Lu Qing contemplated thoughtfully.

Leaving the sick room, Lu Qing continued to think about his master’s words.

Of course, he didn’t completely agree with his master.

His master was kind-hearted and couldn’t bear to see others suffer, so he treated all patients almost equally, regardless unless they were extremely vile.

But Lu Qing didn’t have such noble sentiments.

He preferred to help people according to his own likes and dislikes.

However, there was one thing his master said that he did agree with.

That was, if you decided to provide treatment, then you should do your utmost to heal, so you could be true to your conscience.

“Young Master Lu, Young Master Lu.”

As Lu Qing mulled this over, he suddenly heard someone calling him.

Looking up, he saw Ma Gu outside the courtyard, waving to him.

“Ma Gu, what’s the matter?”

Lu Qing walked over.

As for the several guards from the Wei Family in the courtyard, they only glanced over and paid him no further attention.

For them, at this moment, nothing was more important than the safety of their own young master.

Following Ma Gu, Lu Qing arrived at a secluded place.

There was another person waiting there, whom Lu Qing recognized as one of Ma Gu’s subordinates.

“Ma Gu, what’s the matter?” Lu Qing asked.

“Young Master Lu, we owe you and Old Doctor Chen a great debt this time. Otherwise, Young Master Wei’s life would have likely been lost,” Ma Gu said with residual fear, “If something had actually happened to Young Master Wei, you probably wouldn’t see me anymore.”

“Ma Gu you are too kind, the credit goes mainly to my master for being so formidable, I’m just the assistant and didn’t provide much help,” Lu Qing shook his head and said.

“Young Master Lu, you are being too modest. With your skill in selecting and preparing medicines, you will surely become a divine doctor as impressive as your master.”

Ma Gu wasn’t someone who knew nothing.

In the previous emergency situation, Lu Qing was still able to perfectly follow Old Doctor Chen’s instructions, quickly preparing the life-saving medicine needed.

That couldn’t be done without a good psychological quality and solid foundation in medical knowledge.

And according to the investigations of his subordinate Xiao Tian, Lu Qing had not been a disciple of the elder doctor for very long.

To have grown so much in such a short period of time.

Lu Qing’s medical talent was probably not inferior to his martial arts talent.

Such a young man with outstanding martial arts and medical skills was increasingly valued in Ma Gu’s heart.

“Young Master Lu, didn’t you mention last time that you wanted a war saber? I have brought one for you,” Ma Gu continued before Lu Qing could be modest again.

“So soon?” Lu Qing was surprised, “Didn’t you say it would only be available after the next big market day?”

“When it comes to Young Master Lu’s matters, I naturally pay more attention,” Ma Gu motioned to his attendant behind him, “Xiao Tian, bring the saber here.”

Xiao Tian, who was behind him, immediately presented the long saber he had been cradling in his arms with both hands.

Ma Gu took it and handed it to Lu Qing.

“This war saber was meticulously forged by a master blacksmith in the city. It can slice through iron like mud, is very sturdy, and its design is simple, which fully meets Young Master Lu’s requirements.”

Lu Qing took the saber, drew it from the scabbard, and heard a pleasing ring of the blade.

He looked at the war saber in his hand, noticing the finely detailed patterns, the exceptionally sharp blade, and the chilling aura that made his skin bristle.

After he sheathed the saber again, Lu Qing said in confusion, “Ma Gu, this saber must be quite valuable, I don’t have enough silver to afford it.”

Even though Lu Qing was not very familiar with swords, he could tell at a glance that the war saber in his hands could not be bought for just a few dozen silver taels.

“How could I ask Young Master Lu to pay for it? Consider this saber a gift from me,” Ma Gu said.

“That’s not acceptable, it’s too valuable,” Lu Qing shook his head, offering the saber back.

“Young Master Lu, there’s no need to refuse,” Ma Gu quickly said, “this time you and your master saved Young Master Wei’s life, which means you also saved my life. How could a mere war saber repay such a debt? So please, accept this saber.”

The two went back and forth, pulling at each other, until finally, Lu Qing really grew impatient.

He simply said, “How about this: if that young master’s condition becomes clear and he truly wakes up, then I will accept the saber.”

If Wei Xiao really faced any critical situations, he could just bring out the Century-old Ginseng from his home.

“Okay, we’ll do as Young Master Lu says. For now, I’ll leave the saber with you, Young Master. If Young Master Wei wakes up, the saber will be yours. If he doesn’t wake up, I’m afraid I won’t be alive to keep it either.”

“…”

Facing Ma Gu’s sticky attitude, Lu Qing didn’t know what to say anymore.

So, in the end, the saber remained temporarily in Lu Qing’s possession.

However, this also aroused a slight curiosity in Lu Qing about the Wei Family.

What kind of family was it that could make a person like Ma Gu, with a background and in the Muscle Bone Realm, feel such fear?

And those Wei Family guards as well, their speech was full of reverence for their family head.

“Ma Gu, what kind of background does the Wei Family have to command such respect from you?” Lu Qing couldn’t help but ask softly out of curiosity.

“The Wei Family?” Upon hearing this, Ma Gu’s face showed a complex expression, “That Wei Family is truly remarkable.”
