I Have a Countryside Gourmet Restaurant

Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Buying Some Vegetables on the Road

Not long after, Ye Shengge returned as well.

Seeing Li You lounging on the rocking chair, she smiled. ”You look comfortable, Boss!”

Li You laughed and said, ”Well, life is meant to be enjoyed.”

Ye Shengge nodded. ”That’s true.”

After speaking, she sat down in a nearby chair as well.

She leaned back against the chair.

Gazing at the distant scenery, a few large birds flew across the sky, their pleasant calls echoing through the air.

A gentle breeze blew past, carrying with it the faint fragrance of flowers.

It was an intoxicating scene.

Time slowly passed, and it was soon six in the evening.

Ye Shengge said, ”Boss, tonight I’d like one Boiled Cabbage in Clear Soup and a small bowl of beef noodles.”

Li You nodded.

Just as he was about to get up and head to the kitchen, he saw several motorcycles and electric scooters pull into the parking lot one after another.

It was Chu Yiwei, Lin Xin, Zhang Qinghe, and the other teachers from Wenxian Town Central School.

Today, Chu Yiwei, Lin Xin, and Zhang Qinghe had all come together.

Li You decided to wait for them.

Soon, the teachers walked over.

”Boss, we’re back!” the teachers greeted Li You.

Li You smiled. ”Welcome! A warm welcome to all of you!”

Zhang Qinghe added, ”We heard from Teacher Chu that you’ve introduced a new dish, Boiled Cabbage in Clear Soup. That’s a famous state banquet dish! We’ve heard of it, but we’ve never had it before. Since you have it here, we have to try it. We’ll all split one order.”

Chu Yiwei then said, ”After I got back yesterday, I specifically looked up information on Boiled Cabbage in Clear Soup. I discovered it’s a very complex dish, almost legendary. I told Teacher Zhang and the others about it. They knew of the dish but had never tried it, so everyone agreed to come and split an order to experience it.”

Li You said, ”Of course! Thank you all.”

”Also, I’ll have a large bowl of beef noodles.”

”I’ll have a large bowl of Yangchun Noodles.”

”...”

The teachers placed their individual orders.

Li You jotted them all down and then walked into the kitchen.

’Two more orders of Boiled Cabbage in Clear Soup.’

’This is selling much faster than I expected.’

After a flurry of activity in the kitchen, the two orders of Boiled Cabbage in Clear Soup were the first to be ready.

He served one to Ye Shengge and the other to the teachers.

The teachers were quite surprised when they saw the Boiled Cabbage in Clear Soup.

It was a beautiful dish!

’What will it taste like?’ The anticipation grew.

First, they tried the soup.

It was the first time they had ever seen a soup as clear as water yet bursting with savory fragrance.

This soup was magical.

The teachers all picked up their spoons and scooped up some soup.

After the first taste, they were all more surprised than they had ever been.

’This is so much better than the broth for the Yangchun Noodles!’

They couldn’t believe a soup this delicious could even exist.

’Truly worthy of its reputation as a state banquet dish.’

Next, they tried a piece of the cabbage.

Each of the teachers picked up a piece of cabbage with their chopsticks and put it in their mouths.

Once again, they were endlessly surprised.

They couldn’t believe that the ordinary cabbage they were so familiar with, something they ate all the time, could taste so incredible.

’Is this some kind of magical transformation? An ordinary ingredient in the hands of a top chef?’

’It’s just too amazing!’

The teachers were all thrilled.

Amid their excitement, Chu Yiwei and Lin Xin were also incredibly glad they had come along with everyone today.

Otherwise, if it had just been the two of them, they definitely wouldn’t have been willing to spend so much on such an expensive dish.

If that had happened, they might have missed out on this incredible delicacy.

Back in the kitchen, Li You was still cooking the noodles for Ye Shengge and the teachers.

Once they were done, he served the bowls to Ye Shengge and the teachers respectively.

’Let’s see, today’s revenue is up by another 1,000 yuan or so.’

’The total revenue is around 6,000 yuan now.’

’The main quest of breaking 8,000 in a single day doesn’t seem so far off anymore.’

And tomorrow was Saturday.

Generally, business was better on the weekends.

’I wonder if I’ll have a chance to break the record tomorrow?’

’I’m really looking forward to it!’

After slowly finishing their noodles, Ye Shengge and the teachers were all very satisfied.

After chatting with Li You for a while about the Boiled Cabbage in Clear Soup, they all scanned the QR code to pay.

Ye Shengge’s and the teachers’ orders combined came to a total of 1,248 yuan.

’Not bad at all.’

The teachers said their goodbyes and left. Ye Shengge was also heading into town to stay at a hotel.

The bustling restaurant slowly quieted down.

Night gradually fell over the land.

Li You cooked a bowl of beef noodles for himself.

After he finished eating, he closed the shop doors and went up to the second floor.

He lay on the sofa, watched some TV, and fiddled with his phone for a while.

’This is the life!’

...

「The next day.」

In the morning.

It was market day in town. On the adjacent highway, motorcycles and electric tricycles passed by one after another.

Li You watched with great interest.

Before long, he spotted a familiar figure in the distance.

It was the old man.

The old man was probably on his way to the market to sell vegetables again.

’I wonder what vegetables he’s selling this time?’

’If he has any cabbage, I might as well buy it.’

The old man’s cabbage was of ”Medium” quality, which was excellent.

Li You didn’t need cabbage at the moment, but it wouldn’t hurt to buy some more to have on hand. After all, anything placed in the Storage Pavilion would stay fresh indefinitely.

With this in mind, Li You walked to the side of the road.

The old man arrived just then.

”Sir, heading out to sell vegetables again?” Li You asked.

Seeing it was Li You, the old man quickly stopped his vehicle. He smiled and said, ”That’s right! Off to sell some vegetables. Young man, how’s business been these past few days?”

Li You smiled. ”Not bad.”

At that moment, Li You saw the vegetables in the cargo bed of the old man’s tricycle.

There were about ten heads of napa cabbage and some cucumbers.

”Ingredient: Napa Cabbage.

Quality: Medium.”

”Ingredient: Cucumber.

Quality: Medium.”

’Medium quality again, as expected. To reach Medium quality means the produce is very high-grade.’

’I’ll just buy it all.’

Li You quite liked cucumbers. He could keep them for himself.

”Sir, I happen to need both of these. I’ll buy everything. Could you weigh it for me?” Li You said.

The old man was pleasantly surprised to hear this, but he said, ”Young man, won’t that be too much if you take it all? These vegetables haven’t been sprayed with pesticides, so they won’t keep for too long.”

Li You replied, ”It’s fine. Business has been pretty good these past few days, so I go through a lot of vegetables.”

Hearing this, the old man didn’t doubt him and said happily, ”Alright then, alright. Thank you, young man. I’ll weigh it right now.”

Li You said, ”You’re too kind, sir. Buying from you saves me a trip to town. It’s more convenient for me.”

The old man weighed the cabbage while saying, ”Even so, I still have to thank you.”

The cabbage was weighed. The ten heads came to a total of thirty-three jin.

These heads of cabbage weren’t very large, unlike some that could weigh five or six jin, or even up to ten jin each.

Then the cucumbers, which totaled eleven jin.

The cabbage was 1.5 yuan per jin, and the cucumbers were two yuan per jin.

The total came to 71.5 yuan.

Li You paid him in cash.

The old man only took 70 yuan, saying, ”Young man, 70 is enough.”

Li You hesitated for a moment but didn’t insist. ”Thank you then, sir.”

The old man told Li You not to be so polite. Then he added, ”Young man, let me help you carry the vegetables to your shop.”

Li You said, ”There’s no need, sir. They aren’t heavy. I can carry them myself.”

The old man said, ”Alright then. I’ll be heading back. Thank you, young man.”

Li You said, ”Sir, you’re being too kind.”

The old man turned his tricycle around, called out, ”Goodbye, young man,” and rode off into the distance.

With a faint smile, Li You carried the vegetables back to the front of his restaurant and placed them all inside the Storage Pavilion.
