Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 34: Chapter 34: The Jiang Family’s Secret

As soon as Xiaomi arrived at the field, she was very happy. This was her chance to cheat!

Unfortunately, she had been lying on the little bed all along and didn’t know what had been planted in the field.

Just as she was pondering how to get Erni to hold her, she heard her mother’s exclamation and Dawa’s worried and anxious voice in the field.

Xiaomi got anxious too, and she couldn’t see or hear what was happening, so she had no idea what was going on.

Luckily, soon after, Erniang’s voice calmed down, telling Erni not to worry.

Xiaomi breathed a sigh of relief and stretched her arms toward Erni, babbling eagerly.

”What’s wrong with Xiaomi? Does she want to see mommy?” Erni thought every child liked their mommy, herself included.

Moreover, it was the first time Xiaomi and Tiedan were so far from mommy.

Yes, yes, sister, pick me up quickly; I want to see what mommy is doing!

Xiaomi nodded excitedly and was picked up by Erni smoothly.

Xiaomi squinted at the crops in the field. The seedlings looked familiar, not wheat or rice, but like corn.

But they were very thin and small, not quite like the corn seedlings she remembered.

Could it be because of the wasteland?

Yes, that’s definitely it!

Didn’t dad and mom say before that the wasteland was thin, and all the fertility had been absorbed by the weeds? For the first couple of years, the yield would be low!

Xiaomi immediately took out a corn seed from her space, not that she didn’t want to take more, but her hands were small and couldn’t carry much.

Then, taking advantage of her babbling and waving excitement, she tossed it out directly.

Erni, being careful of her footing, didn’t see Xiaomi throwing the corn seeds, but just carried Xiaomi towards their mother while Xiaomi took the opportunity to toss a seed here and there.

But she also remembered not to throw too many, or she would be found out.

Even though she didn’t know what kind of corn was in the field now, looking at the sparse seedlings, the yield definitely wouldn’t be good.

And her seeds were excellent varieties improved over several generations; a single corn cob could grow as long as an adult’s forearm!

Xiaomi, with a heart full of excitement, imagined the joyful expressions of her parents when the corn harvested.

Unfortunately, after Erni carried Xiaomi for a lap, she put her back down, ”Xiaomi, be good, you lie down for a while. Sister will take Tiedan to see mommy too.”

Brother and sister should be treated fairly; if Xiaomi wanted to see mommy, Tiedan would surely want to too!

Xiaomi nodded obediently, ”Okay, sister.”

Compared to Xiaomi, who had a different agenda, Tiedan was simply curious and happy. The sky and the earth outside were both novel to him, so much so that when Erni carried him, he was more excited than Xiaomi.

But Erni was still young after all, with limited strength, so after carrying him for a while, she put Tiedan back down, and he was about to cry the moment he opened his mouth.

Before he could make a sound, Xiaomi patted him twice on the stomach, and he immediately quieted down.

Erni watched the whole time, surprised to see Xiaomi: ”Xiaomi is amazing, Tiedan is being so obedient.”

She really thought Tiedan was going to cry.

Xiaomi giggled, ”Of course, I feed Tiedan milk powder and Spiritual Spring water every day, of course he has to listen to me!”

Everyone was busy all afternoon, with Liu Yang’s help, the work progress wasn’t slow. Liu Yang initially said he’d come help again tomorrow, but Jiang Hu said he’d be going to town tomorrow.

”Brother Jiang treats his wife really well, taking her shopping in town as soon as she’s out of confinement.” ℯℯ𝑙.

Jiang Hu smiled but didn’t say much, just thanked Liu Yang.

Though it was only half a day’s work, carrying the muck was exhausting. After just an afternoon, his shoulders were red.

On the way home, Liu Yang helped carry the three water buckets so Jiang Hu could hold the child and take the little bed back too, saving a return trip.

On the way back, Jiang Hu was still holding Xiaomi. After all, he was strong, and Xiaomi was heavier than Tiedan. Xiaomi lay on her daddy’s shoulder, secretly and slyly throwing corn kernels into the fields by the roadside.

This way, if many people had different corn growing in their fields, no one would think their family was special.

Back home, Xiaomi and Tiedan were put in the kitchen. Erniang cooked while telling Jiang Hu to rest well. Dawa and Erni went to the field to find weeds and bugs to feed the chickens and rabbits.

”Erniang, I’ll go dig up the empty vegetable garden next door. If these vegetables can be sold, we’ll buy more seeds tomorrow.”

After all, what they planted before wasn’t much; even if sold, it wouldn’t last a few days.

Erniang felt sorry for her husband, ”Tomorrow we’ll dig together. You’re tired this afternoon, so rest for a while.”

”It’s fine, it won’t take long. I’ll rest well after dinner.” While speaking, Jiang Hu was already out with the hoe.

Instead, Xiaomi finally remembered something belatedly.

Oh no, daddy and mommy, there’s Spiritual Spring water in our toilet too!

Thinking how the water used to wash diapers attracted so many bugs made Xiaomi anxious. Heaven, please don’t let daddy and mommy check the field a few days later and find all the crops eaten by bugs!

Xiaomi was worried and distressed, such a miscalculation, such a huge mistake, why didn’t she think of this earlier!

But no matter how anxious Xiaomi was now, it was useless. The Spiritual Spring water that was ingested couldn’t be spit out.

Besides, without the Spiritual Spring water, the whole family would probably have starved to death, with no chance to panic here at all.

Xiaomi blew a bubble, sighed, hoping that daddy and mommy would check the field tomorrow afternoon, or she’d be a sinner.

”What’s wrong with Xiaomi? Why aren’t you happy? Do you still want to play outside?”

Erniang pinched Xiaomi’s cheek, ”It’s too late today; we’ll play again tomorrow, and tomorrow daddy and mommy will take you to town, which is even more lively.”

Xiaomi blew a bubble, ”Mom, that’s not what I’m worried about, but I can’t talk now.”

The leftover rabbit meat from noon was heated by Erniang for dinner, with fish soup cooked with lard, and a stir-fried vegetable.

Rarely, no porridge was made but dry rice instead. Although it was the worst coarse rice, everyone was particularly happy. The family finally didn’t have to drink porridge every meal!

Dawa and Erni caught many bugs again, the five little chicks had grown a lot, and were fed half of the haul, saving the other half for breakfast.

Now everyone knew they were going to town early the next morning, and they were so happy and excited.

Before going to bed, Jiang Hu still had to wash the diapers, but in the end, he was chased away by Erniang to rest while she did the washing. The water used to wash the diapers was poured directly onto the empty land Jiang Hu had dug up that night.

This was how it had been lately; during the day, diapers were washed by the river.

At night, it was poured near the yard.

The villagers knew a bit but didn’t say much, as Jiang Hu mostly fed chickens and rarely went hunting on the mountain.

At least on the surface, Jiang Hu had only sold his catch twice, which wasn’t enough to make others jealous.

But they certainly didn’t know Jiang Hu sold several at a time, unlike others who sold one or two.

He left for town very early, giving detailed instructions to Dawa and Erni, so others didn’t know about this.

This was a secret of the Jiang family!
