Strongest Lord by Opening Blind Boxes

Chapter 86: Chapter 86: Thousand-Mile Flying Knife

Far out at sea, mist rolled in like the tide, an isolated island hidden within its depths.

This isolated island was Mengbai Island.

Mengbai Island hadn’t existed before. It suddenly appeared with the arrival of the Players, and upon it were many ancient ruins.

To be precise, Mengbai Island was the ruins of an Immortal Island. There were originally two Player Lords on it, but now only one remained.

This remaining Lord was a remarkably beautiful woman named Shen Xingnan.

Before she crossed over, she had been the youngest chief of neurosurgery at a top-tier hospital. Though not yet thirty, she had demonstrated extraordinary talent in the precise and complex field of neurosurgery.

However, she was proud and arrogant, disdainful of social niceties. And despite her ambition, her career had not been smooth.

She once went against the hospital’s expert panel, insisting on performing surgery on a patient with a craniopharyngioma. The operation failed, and the patient died on the table. Afterward, an overwhelming wave of dizziness struck her. Shen Xingnan didn’t know what happened next, but when she woke up, she had crossed over.

She chose the identity of ”a mysterious Female Cultivator awakening from a deep slumber.” She then descended upon Mengbai Island and became a Player Lord, innately possessing a Late-stage Foundation Establishment Cultivation.

Several days ago, Shen Xingnan defeated the other Player Lord who had also appeared on Mengbai Island. She made him her subordinate and gave him the Sword Immortal Inheritance. That man was Xiang Tianchen.

Her Lord Talent was called[Hatching Reset], an A-rank Talent that only worked on Chaos Eggs. It allowed her to reset a Chaos Egg an infinite number of times until she was satisfied with the result.

”I’m in control of Immortal Ruins, with Spirit Stones everywhere, but I still need Gold Coins to develop my territory. How bizarre!”

Shen Xingnan looked toward a massive ship parked halfway up the mountain. It was a Cloud Boat, a type of Flying Treasure Ship powered by Spirit Stones.

The only problem was that the Cloud Boat was severely damaged and couldn’t move. And repairing it required Gold Coins!

’The Lord game is actually a game of conquest. There are no friends, only opponents! If I want to coexist peacefully with other Players, there’s only one way: strip them of their Lord status and make them swear fealty to me...’

Shen Xingnan flicked her sleeve. The memory of someone else completing the Black Mountain Stronghold extermination mission made her snort coldly. ”Xiang Tianchen is completely useless. I wonder how many Gold Coins he’ll manage to bring back. If I can just repair this Cloud Boat, I can take to the seas and plunder as I please. Then I won’t have to rely on him anymore!”

At that moment, large numbers of Wooden Ox Puppets and Bronze Warriors were lined up in formation below her. Farther in the distance, a Void Rift was appearing.

The fourth wave of the void invasion wasn’t synchronized across all territories. The invasion on Mengbai Island was clearly starting earlier.

「Eggshell Village.」

Yang Qinggu, Yang Qingxiu, Liu Cuihua, and the others were acting as couriers, urgently heading to the Giant Scorpion Sandfield, the Huanghua Fishery, the northern pine forest, and other locations.

Wang Yi issued an order for all work sites to cease operations. Non-combatants and non-residents of Eggshell Village were to evacuate within twelve hours.

Meanwhile, all combat personnel and residents of Eggshell Village were to prepare for battle immediately.

Upon receiving Wang Yi’s order, Yang Qingniu, with Li Huaizheng’s assistance, quickly recruited a group of militiamen at Liuhe Farm. He only selected able-bodied young men with a talent for martial arts, totaling 22 people.

Zhang Dashan also recruited 60 people for his Production Team. This group included both men and women, most of whom had a trade, such as firing pottery, weaving straw sandals, and the like.

He also recruited 13 people for the First Dining Hall.

At the Octagonal Cage barracks, Nangong Jin was also hurrying to recruit troops. By evening, the 3,000 Gold Coins Wang Yi had given him for recruitment were completely spent.

In total, he recruited four Heroic Level Beast Taisens and 60 Potential Level Taisens.

He also recruited 24 elite Iron Knee Boykas and 68 Potential Level Boykas.

Four elite Huajin Fengyu Cultivators and 52 Potential Level Feng Yuxiu.

And 32 elite Leonidas!

This amounted to a total of 244 Soldiers!

Compared to the regular version, the Iron Knee Boykas possessed an additional Flying Knee Strike. The Huajin Fengyu Cultivators, in turn, had Inner Strength techniques that made them much more resilient to attacks than ordinary Feng Yuxiu.

Wang Yi felt that Nangong Jin’s recruitment speed was quite impressive. He opened up the Chaos Warehouse and his high-quality armory, allowing Nangong Jin to select equipment for these professional Soldiers.

However, these barracks-trained Soldiers had their limitations; they couldn’t use Skill Books, and much of the available equipment was incompatible with them.

Nangong Jin did some research and found that the Feng Yuxiu could equip General Armor, while the Leonidas could equip Oceanic Leather Loincloths, short knives, and giant clamshell shields.

The Boykas and Taisens, on the other hand, couldn’t equip anything at all and were purely hand-to-hand brawlers.

Perhaps there was suitable equipment for them, but Wang Yi didn’t have any in his possession.

After all, Wang Yi’s armory was still quite limited. The short knives he equipped the Leonidas with had been acquired in a trade with Xiang Tianchen.

Sixty minutes before the fourth void invasion was set to begin, Wang Yi’s defensive preparations were complete. With the exception of Yang Wanli, Man Datou, and others who were away and had not yet returned, all military units were assembled. Supplies like Bamboo Section Arrows and Fire Dragon Oil had been distributed.

Piloting Prototype No. 1, Wang Yi ascended Floating Mountain.

Ten militiamen were also stationed on Floating Mountain.

Among the ten were five veterans, which included Yang Qingniu and his men. The other five were new recruits who had just been brought in from Liuhe Farm. They were equipped with Iron-Clad Bows and had hastily learned the Hundred-step Arrow Technique.

Of course, there were more militiamen, but because they lacked either Iron-Clad Bows or the Hundred-step Arrow Technique, they were limited to close combat. As such, there was no reason for them to be stationed on Floating Mountain.

Time ticked by, and the moment of the void invasion drew ever closer.

Contrary to what one might expect, Wang Yi’s heart was filled with anticipation.

At this very moment, on Mengbai Island, the fourth wave of the void invasion had just been successfully repelled.

Shen Xingnan stood before the entrance to her cave estate on the mountaintop, looking down at the scene below.

The Void Rift, gaping like the maw of a giant Monster, was slowly closing. Throngs of tall, green-skinned figures were retreating back into it.

These tall figures had green skin, powerful physiques, and stood nearly two meters tall. They wore horned helmets—they were Goblin Soldiers!

Trailing behind the Goblin Soldiers were many hunched-over Headhunters, who carried spears and had skeleton racks strapped to their backs.

”YAR-RA-RA-RA...”

A tall Beastman carrying a Battle Banner and wielding a steel blade roared in frustration. He was a head taller than the average Goblin Soldier and was clearly a leader. His anger stemmed from his failure to conquer Shen Xingnan’s territory.

After casting one last, hateful glare at the unconquered mountain peak, the Beastman leader turned and reluctantly walked toward the Void Rift.

But atop the mountain peak, Shen Xingnan felt no joy at having repelled the fourth wave of the void invasion. Instead, she frowned, her expression as cold as ice.

Her losses in this battle had been immense.

The losses of her Wooden Ox Puppets and Bronze Warriors were bearable, but the critical issue was the extensive damage the Cloud Boat had sustained. Repairing it now would cost even more Gold Coins.

”This wave of the void invasion has probably wiped out a lot of Chaos Lords! We should be happy, Xing’Er!”

Xiang Tianchen arrived beside Shen Xingnan, riding his sword. ”Hurry up and take out the system rewards! Let me see what we got!” he said. ”Oh, and you should open that Purple Chaos Egg I brought you!”

’Idiot!’

Shen Xingnan thought silently. ’If I had anyone else to choose from, I never would have taken this Xiang Tianchen on as a subordinate.’

’If I want to repair the Cloud Boat quickly, there’s probably only one way,’ she mused. ’I’ll have to send this toad out to do some robbing. He can rob Player territories, and he can rob the Indigenous People too!’

With this in mind, Shen Xingnan took out an item. It was the system reward for repelling the fourth wave of the void invasion. It looked like a palm-sized, purple figurine, but its name was[Thousand-Mile Flying Knife]!

[Thousand-Mile Flying Knife: A purple, consumable Spiritual Object. Consume 1,000 Chaos Energy to communicate with it and confirm a target to kill. It can then hunt down its target from a thousand miles away!]

’This is a great treasure. It can hunt someone down from a thousand miles... I can use it to assassinate a Chaos Lord. I can’t waste it!’

Shen Xingnan mulled over the thought that one must be ruthless to get ahead. She looked at Xiang Tianchen and asked, ”That Player who cleared out Black Mountain Stronghold... did you get a clear handle on who it is?”

”I did. The man’s name is Yang Wanli. He’s into Demon Cultivation and can summon Wraith Soldiers. His territory is... exceptionally well-developed! I tried to scout his territory, but I ended up losing seven Protective Talismans. Oh, and that Purple Chaos Egg? I got it in a trade with him!”

”So, he’s very powerful. That’s even better. I will use the Thousand-Mile Flying Knife to assassinate him. You are to head to his territory immediately and confiscate all his resources!”
