Chapter 74: Chapter 74: I Will Host a Fighting Competition

As the voice faded, the Octagonal Cage flashed with light again, and a young man appeared.

This young man had a haughty look in his eyes. He threw a series of limp, powerless punches and kicks, shouting, ”The new star of kung fu, Sauce Burst, at your service!”

Yang Qingniu knew the drill by now. He cupped his fists and said, ”I’ll take the fight!”

”Go on.”

Wang Yi nodded. Sauce Burst was also just a common-grade combatant; Yang Qingniu should have an easy time with him.

Sure enough, Sauce Burst’s punches and kicks were limp and powerless, even worse than the Turtle Fist. Yang Qingniu sent him flying with a single kick, stepped forward to daze him with two slaps to the face, then kicked him again. Sauce Burst fell flat on the ground, his tongue lolling out and the whites of his eyes showing.

Nangong Jin immediately announced the end of the match, with Yang Qingniu as the victor.

’This guy’s a joke!’

Wang Yi chuckled. Naturally, he wasn’t going to recruit Sauce Burst.

Nangong Jin then began the third professional match.

”I will now host a fighting competition. For this match, the fighter is Feng Yuxiu, with an appearance fee of ten Gold Coins! Contestant Feng Yuxiu is a Potential Level combatant. Will anyone enter the cage to accept his challenge?”

’Feng Yuxiu? Potential Level?’

Curious, Wang Yi glanced into the Octagonal Cage. Feng Yuxiu had already appeared. The man wasn’t tall and had uneven legs. He wore martial arts attire, his face was coarse, and his short, drenched-looking hair clung to his scalp. With a vicious gaze, he struck a fighting stance and declared in a deep voice, ”Kung fu is a killing art. It determines not only victory and defeat, but also life and death. I am Feng Yuxiu!”

’It’s him!’

Wang Yi’s heart skipped a beat. ’A man like this is only a Potential Level combatant?’

At that moment, Yang Qingniu again volunteered to fight. ”Another short one, Boss! Let me fight again!”

But Wang Yi shook his head. ”Stand down. I’m afraid you can’t beat him.”

Yang Qingniu knew skills like Body Forging Long Fist, Chaotic Fist, and Mad Dog Fist, but the martial arts fanatic knew all that and more. Moreover, he was vicious and had rich combat experience. Wang Yi didn’t think Yang Qingniu was his match.

”Barbarian Guard, you’re up!”

”Yes!”

Man Datou obeyed the order. He took off his General Armor and strode into the Octagonal Cage, causing Feng Yuxiu’s mouth to twitch. The smaller man retreated two steps.

At over two meters tall, Man Datou towered over Feng Yuxiu by two full heads. It was obvious that even a martial arts fanatic like him was a little intimidated.

The battle began quickly. With a sharp cry, Feng Yuxiu struck first. His expression was fierce and his movements were swift. He launched a rising jump kick that actually connected with Man Datou’s neck.

But Man Datou didn’t dodge or evade. A black layer instantly covered his body. He took the kick without so much as blinking; it had no effect on him whatsoever.

Feng Yuxiu landed back on his feet. He could feel his opponent’s immense power and didn’t dare advance recklessly. He clenched his fists, eyes locked on Man Datou, and began to circle slowly, searching for an opening.

Man Datou grinned and brought his hand down in a vertical chop aimed at Feng Yuxiu. His Inner Strength flared, glowing crimson. With a BOOM, his palm strike hit the ground, looking for all the world as if he had slammed a two-meter-long greatsword into the floor.

It was the flaming saber!

Though Feng Yuxiu dodged the attack, his face went pale with shock. ”This is a sparring match!” he yelled. ”We’re just supposed to determine a winner, not kill each other!”

Man Datou just laughed heartily and charged forward to attack.

With the Iron Cloth Shirt for defense, the flaming saber for offense, and buffs from the Dragon Elephant Skill and Powerful Fist, his strength was immense. To Feng Yuxiu, he was a pure stat monster. The outcome of the battle was a foregone conclusion.

Within three minutes, Man Datou had pinned Feng Yuxiu with a Grapple Hand technique. Man Datou then landed a punch on his abdomen, causing him to cough up blood and pass out.

With a CLANK, the large iron gate of the Octagonal Cage swung open automatically.

Nangong Jin announced, ”The match is over. The Barbarian Guard is victorious!”

He shot Wang Yi a questioning look. When Wang Yi nodded, Nangong Jin continued, ”I will now recruit the defeated Feng Yuxiu. Octagonal Cage Warrior Feng Yuxiu, hear my command! Exit the cage and fall in!”

”Yes!”

Inside the Octagonal Cage, Feng Yuxiu instantly awoke, completely restored to peak condition. As he walked out of the cage, a magical scene occurred. As if by a grand illusion or the Clone Technique, Feng Yuxiu suddenly split into four identical people!

The four Feng Yuxius were completely identical, the only difference being the numbers ”1,” ”2,” ”3,” and ”4” branded between their eyebrows.

”Feng Yuxiu, Number One!”

”Number Two!”

”Number Three!”

”Number Four!”

”We greet our Lord! We greet the Military Governor! Greetings to all!”

The four Feng Yuxius shouted in perfect, imposing unison.

Wang Yi knew this multiplication was the effect of a critical success on Nangong Jin’s recruitment. He was delighted, nodding as he said, ”Very good, very spirited. Go to the stands! Nangong Jin, continue!”

As he spoke, he could already see the character information for the four Feng Yuxius, which was almost identical for each.

[Feng Yuxiu, ID 01: Congenitally disabled with legs of uneven length. A tenacious and ruthless martial arts fanatic, proficient in both fist and blade techniques. An Octagonal Cage Potential Level combatant. Special Note: While recruited Soldier Types possess a basic personality template, their consciousness and thoughts have been modified. Possessing a templated persona, they are considered manufactured beings and cannot use items such as Skill Books. They can only grow stronger through training. Wang Yi then used the Talent Assessment Machine on all four Feng Yuxius, and the results were identical. Their comprehensive rating was 79, making them high-quality Potential Level combatants. Their specialty was, of course, combat!

’A comprehensive rating of 79... That’s even higher than Li Hua’Er and Hai Pei...’

Wang Yi was lost in thought.

Meanwhile, Nangong Jin continued to host fighting competitions. The professional fighters in the next three matches were Tea Burst, Oil Burst, and Scallion Burst. They all looked identical to Sauce Burst and were all total scrubs.

Wang Yi let Zhang Lengzi and the others go in for some fun, and they all won easily. Then, the next fighting competition produced another Potential Level contestant: Boyka.

This was a tattooed foreigner in fighting trunks. He had short hair, a vicious gaze, and a powerful physique. Upon entering, he let out a great roar: ”God has bestowed upon me but one Talent! I am the most complete fighter in the world!”

Wang Yi, who was sipping some Vegetable Soup, nearly sprayed it everywhere. ”Holy crap, the ultimate fighter!” he exclaimed. ”This guy showed up too! Excellent, excellent. In that case, we’ll just have to have the Barbarian Guard put him in his place!”

Although Boyka’s moves were spectacular to watch, he was still easily knocked unconscious by Man Datou.

Nangong Jin recruited him as well, and just like before, one became four. The four Boykas were identical, complete with numbered designations. The Talent Assessment Machine gave them the same result: a rating of 79, the same Soldier Type designation as Feng Yuxiu, and a specialty in combat.

’Recruiting soldiers this way is pretty interesting!’

Wang Yi settled in to enjoy the show as if he were watching a fighting tournament, telling Nangong Jin to continue with the matches.

The professional fighters who appeared next included Vegetable Treasure Fruit, Second-in-Command, Blind Man, He Tongtie, and so on. A few of them were able to go toe-to-toe with Yang Qingniu and the others, but they were all common-grade contestants, so Nangong Jin didn’t recruit any of them.

After seven consecutive matches, the eighth one finally featured someone other than a common-grade contestant. This time, an elite-grade combatant appeared: ”Leonidas”!

He was another foreigner, clad in leather trunks and a large red cloak. He was incredibly muscular, with perfect eight-pack abs and a full black beard. Upon appearing, he stomped the ground with a powerful kick and roared, ”THIS! IS! SPARTA!”
