Strongest Lord by Opening Blind Boxes

Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Tongyou Jade, Grand General of Divine Might

Jelena brought the grape-sized black bead to Wang Yi.

As a Player, Wang Yi’s gaze swept over the bead, and he immediately saw its information panel.

’Tongyou Jade, Tongyou Spell... they seem pretty powerful. I can unseal it, but it’s a shame there’s no one who can use it!’

Wang Yi thought to himself that this must be the Mysterious Item with a one-in-ten-thousand drop rate from the General’s Tomb dungeon. ’The item itself is great, but it’s a pity it can only be used on a target who has just died. I can’t just kill one of my subordinates on purpose to use it, can I?’

However, even though the Tongyou Jade couldn’t be used for now, Wang Yi still praised Jelena profusely. She was skilled in both administration and combat, could lead a team through a dungeon, could help manage the territory, and on top of all that, she was adorable. What Lord wouldn’t love such a treasure?

During dinner that evening, Wang Yi told everyone about the discoveries at the Old Mountain Stream. He also gave the [Hemostatic Pill Formula] and the [Instructions for Making Fire Dragon Oil] to Jelena.

”The Hemostatic Pill is a great item. It’s cheap and simple to make. Tomorrow, arrange for people to start production. Whether for our own use or for sale, it can’t hurt to stockpile them.”

Wang Yi paused for a moment, then added, ”And the Fire Dragon Oil. In my opinion, this stuff is basically liquid gunpowder. It has many uses, is worth researching, and must be produced as soon as possible!”

”Liquid gunpowder? What’s that?”

Everyone scratched their heads, as gunpowder didn’t exist in this world.

Wang Yi explained for a bit, but everyone still looked confused. Wang Yi didn’t press the issue. He looked at Jelena beside him and said, ”Jelena, what are your thoughts? Share them with everyone!”

”Yes, Father!”

Jelena gave her signature elegant smile before her expression turned serious. ”Right now, work at the sand plant, the fishery, and the Gourmet Processing Plant has mostly stabilized. The Production Team’s tasks are quite varied, so I suggest we leave the Old Mountain Stream under Captain Zhang’s charge.”

”Me?”

Zhang Dashan pointed to his own nose.

”Yes. The more capable a person is, the more work they must do. The collection of Hemostatic Grass and Fire Silk Grass, as well as the production of Hemostatic Pills and Fire Dragon Oil... I’ll have to trouble you with these, Captain Zhang. Any problems with that?”

Zhang Dashan’s face soured into a grimace. His people were already stretched to their limits, but after a glance at Wang Yi, he nodded. ”Of course, I have no problem!”

”That’s good!”

Jelena nodded and then began to speak with great confidence, discussing the current state of Eggshell Village with everyone. It was like a training seminar, and it was putting them all to sleep.

Wang Yi saw her acting like a little adult and thought, ’If this girl’s abilities get any stronger, I’ll probably be able to become a completely hands-off boss.’

In truth, he intended to groom Jelena to take over the trivial matters. That way, he could open blind boxes, do research, train his subordinates, or lead troops into battle—do the things he actually enjoyed. That’s what made life fun.

「At that same moment.」

Two strange figures slowly approached the dilapidated gatehouse of Kaiyuan County.

To be precise, it was two people riding two giant scorpions.

These two were none other than Man Datou and Yang Wanli.

With their Rock Giant Scorpion Mounts, they could travel in a straight line over any terrain, making the journey much faster than going on foot. In fact, they had reached Qingyuan County long ago, but after observing it from a distance without entering, they had retreated.

The county town was in utter turmoil. A notice was posted on the town gate: the Red Tiger Camp was suppressing bandits and conducting a massive conscription drive!

During the day, one group from the Red Tiger Camp and another from the County Yamen blocked the small town gate, making it as loud and chaotic as a marketplace.

Anyone trying to enter or leave had to submit to their questioning. Those without a proper family background or a good reason for their travel were press-ganged into service.

Yang Wanli didn’t dare be careless. He observed from a distance, not risking a closer look, and retreated. He had the two Rock Giant Scorpions camouflage themselves as boulders by the main road, while he and Man Datou lay in wait, stopping any carriage they saw to try and sell their pearls.

But after a long while, the pair hadn’t sold a single pearl. They did, however, give passersby a terrible fright. Many people mistook them for bandits and shouted that they were going to report them to the authorities.

When night fell, Yang Wanli decided this wasn’t working and dragged Man Datou over to the town.

By now, night had fully set in, and the town gates were closed. There were only two guards on duty atop the wall, chatting inattentively. Man Datou and Yang Wanli rode their Giant Scorpions right up to the gate without being noticed.

”Hey, gatekeepers! Open your eyes and look! The Grand General of Divine Martial Arts has arrived! Open the gates at once!”

The sudden shout startled the guards on the wall. The two men rubbed their eyes, shone their torches down to get a better look, and were so frightened their souls nearly leaped from their bodies.

”Mon-monster!”

”What a huge scorpion!”

”Is that even a person down there?”

The two guards panicked, completely at a loss.

Yang Wanli snorted and shouted again, ”Do not panic! This is a tamed Divine Scorpion, which only our Grand General of Divine Might can ride! Open the gate at once and inform your County Magistrate! I, the General, have a fine piece of business to discuss with him!”

”Huh?”

”A Divine Scorpion?”

”The Grand General of Divine Might?”

The guards on the wall were still trembling with fear, uncertain whether they should open the gate.

Yang Wanli looked up at them, feeling quite anxious himself.

He was just forcing himself to see this through.

Rather than painstakingly searching for a buyer, all the while worrying about being cheated, scammed, or set up, he figured it was better to impersonate a Grand General and deal directly with the richest person in the county.

Yang Wanli’s confidence stemmed from the General Armor produced in the General’s Tomb. The armor was resplendent, not something an ordinary person could possess. Paired with the Rock Giant Scorpion, there was a high probability he could bluff his way through.

He didn’t plan on entering the town, either. They would make the trade right at the gate. If things started to look fishy, he’d just hop on the Rock Giant Scorpion and flee!

It was a one-shot deal, anyway. If it worked, they’d head back overnight and report their success with their heads held high.

If not, they’d think of something else!

Man Datou also bellowed, ”Tell your County Magistrate to bring gold and silver! As much as he can carry!”

His shout had a completely different effect.

Man Datou was over two meters tall, and sitting atop the Rock Giant Scorpion, he looked like a Divine Demon.

Compared to him, the gaunt Yang Wanli couldn’t quite fill out the General Armor, making him far less intimidating.

The two guards scrambled down from the gatehouse, one of them even grabbing a copper gong and banging it while yelling, ”Help! We’re in trouble! Someone’s here to rob us!”

”No, that’s not right! It’s the Grand General of Divine Might on his Divine Scorpion! Everyone, make way! I’m going to make a report!”
