The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 529: Chapter 529- Basics of [Divine Beast Summoning]

”First of all, congratulations.” Reinhardt spoke, addressing the crowd, more specifically the new recruits.

”I know the journey to get here was not easy. However, now that you have chosen the Temple of Light, that choice will demand everything from you. Your strength, your resolve, your compassion, and your will to stand will be tested again and again. Only those with a brave heart can make it”...

”A life of a knight is not all glory and glitters like you all imagined. You will be asked to protect those who curse you. You will be forced to choose between the easy path and the right one. And you will witness things that will scar you.”

His words caused the air to grow heavier. Reinhardt observed the reaction of each and every one of the new recruits and continued. ”You all are saplings right now. But I believe this: within every single one of you lies the potential to become a hero.”

Not a knight, but a hero!

At that instant, the faces of all the new members changed. Their blood boiled, and excitement flushed their faces red.

”Of course, that potential means nothing without effort. So work, train, fail, and rise again. If you do, then one day you may stand where I stand now. Is that understood?”

”Understood!!” The newbies all gave a powerful cry.

It needs to be said that Reinhardt didn’t use the [Voice of Providence]; the result that one could see right now was solely the result of his charisma and effort. Having encouraged the new members enough, Reinhardt started the training by displaying the skills of the Temple of Light.

More than a year ago, just like today, he stood here and demonstrated the powerful skills he got from Dioanax and incorporated into his order.

Once again, Reinhardt raised his hand towards the sky and slowly muttered ”[Radiant Ascension].”

The next second, the sky answered. When he slammed his fist to the ground, a gigantic pillar of pure light descended from above like divine judgment. In the blink of an eye, it had travelled the distance and crashed into the training field, bathing everyone and everything in its blinding radiance.

As the pillar of light was made of pure divine energy, it did not damage the surroundings, only dispersing the snow and shaking the ground a little.

As for the knights, they only felt a warm energy seep into their bones, invigorating their muscles and sore bodies. Gasps rippled through the recruits. Then, before they could recover...

”[Lightforge Ascension].” At Reinhardt’s call, a colossal sun of divine energy, vast and overwhelming, manifested high up in the sky. Next, with a gesture of his hand, he shaped it, stretching, folding, compressing, until the shapes of all weapons came into view.

Sometimes it was a spear, sometimes a sword, an axe... all kinds of colossal weapons manifested in the sky, humming with annihilation like power.

At this display of power, everyone unconsciously straightened their backs. That said, Reinhardt wasn’t done yet. He drew his mithril blade, and the air about him changed instantly. He stepped forward and unleashed the basic techniques of the unparalleled sword art, [Holy Blade Arts], also known as the Divine Testament of the Sword.

The First Light of the Holy Blade Arts, which used the Transcendent state of [One with the Sword] as basis, was a slash so clean it slashed through snowflakes themselves. The Second Light, using the [Heart of the Sword] as basis, was layered and devastating; the force carved controlled trenches into the reinforced ground.

The Third Light came last, precise, absolute, and terrifying in its restraint.

One by one, Reinhardt demonstrated all the skills and techniques he had already imparted to the members of his order. When it ended, the field became a place of silence. None of the people here had anything to say after that.

Even those Holy and High Ranking Knights who had trained under him for more than a year felt the familiar sting of humility when shown reality. Having practiced the skills the commander had imparted for so long, they took pride in their proficiency and completion.

Yet now, looking at the commander, they were forced to realise how far from completion they were. The skills they learned had much, much room to grow.

Of course, the skills they learned were quite powerful. But this? What the commander showed them was the gulf between mastery and legend.

If even those who had already seen and experienced his skills were like this, one could imagine what the new recruits were going through.

All their attention was focused on Reinhardt as if afraid they would miss any of his movements. Their eyes burned with awe and ambition, a hunger to one day become an existence like him.

The new recruits joined the Temple of Light because they were drawn by Reinhardt’s countless stories of valour and recent broadcasts where he defeated the commanders of Seven Knight Orders all by himself in the Grand Aegis Shatter.

And now, seeing him display his skills, no, the skills they are going to learn, they once again realised that they had joined their dream order.

Having finished demonstrating his skills for the new recruits, Reinhardt turned back to face the assembled order. The awe had not yet left their faces.

Seeing this, he nodded. The new recruits weren’t the only reason he displayed his skills; it was also to flex, to remind the veterans how far they still had to climb.

After giving them some time to recollect themselves, Reinhardt spoke again.

”You have all, more or less, mastered the basics of the skills and techniques I taught you over the past year. Some of you learned faster than others and grasped more of the mysteries. Some of you lagged behind but proved it with your grit. Regardless of your progress rate, you have all earned my recognition.”

A faint yet rare smile flickered across Reinhardt’s face. That said, it did not last long as his expression hardened.

”That said, after today, just staying at the basics won’t do. With the increase in demonic activity, the world is scarred and afraid. It is the knight’s duty to resolve these issues and declare it to the people that they are safe. And the only way to do that is to become stronger. And so, starting today, I am going to teach you all a new skill.”

Then he slowly added, stressing each word: ”[Divine Beast Summoning]”.

The moment those words left his lips, a murmur spread through the ranks. Even the veteran knights widened their eyes.

Why would they not? After all, summoning skills were widely known to be bloodline specific. There were a few knights’ families in the neighbouring kingdoms who specialised in summoning skills.

Of course, it was not like no one tried to use the skill. Many knights in the world tried to learn the summoning skill. However, they were never able to learn it. Because of such constraints, they all believed that summoning skill was bloodline specific.

Could it be that their commander was from... Before anyone could get the wrong idea, Reinhardt raised his hand, silencing them.

”The skill [Divine Beast Summoning] I use is different from the skill you have in mind. My skill does not call forth something that fights for you; no, it calls forth one that acknowledges you and is willing to fight with you.”

There was a big difference between the two, and the sharp ones quickly realised what he was talking about. Silvia raised her hand to ask, ”Commander... does that mean... a contract?”

Reinhardt nodded his head. ”Yes. But not the kind you’re thinking of.”

The people of this world were only familiar with one type of contract, and that was the one demons used. It was not internal where offerings or blood oaths had to be made. No, it was complex yet simple, and did not impose life and death restrictions on either party.

”My method is different.” Thanks to the Divine Trait [Heaven’s Memory], he could peer into the deeper mysteries of the skill and provide an easy to understand breakdown of the skill for his knights.

”Divine Beast Summoning is built on resonance and your own attributes. Depending on these factors, you will be able to summon a beast. That said, to even qualify for summoning, you must first master two foundational skills.”

Saying that, he held up two fingers. ”First is [Soul Synchronisation]. This skill allows you to stabilise your soul frequency and prevent rejection. Divine Beasts are not tools. Their will is ancient, proud, and heavy. Without Soul Synchronisation, the moment you attempt contact, your soul will either be crushed... or torn apart.”

All the knights unconsciously nodded their heads.

”Second is [Mana Channelling]. Divine Beasts do not draw mana from the air like spells. They draw it through you. If your mana is impure, unstable, or inefficient, the beast will starve, or worse, overload you.”
