School Beauty's Personal Crazy Young Master

Chapter 692: Chapter 768: Escape from the Cave

The sudden footsteps seemed to come from all directions, making it impossible to discern their source.

Chen Nan abruptly stood up.

He scanned the area and saw that the nine mummies remained in their original places, which meant the footsteps couldn’t have come from them. But what else could make such sounds besides these mummies?

Chen Nan quickly turned and looked down at the feet of the woman in red beside him, his expression dramatically changing the instant he saw it.

The woman in red, who had long been dead, had somehow stepped forward with her right foot, moving forward at least ten centimeters compared to before!

Wasn’t she already dead?

Chen Nan clearly sensed that there was no sign of life from the woman in red, who had been dead for thousands of years. How could her body still move?

”This is truly beyond belief!”

After placing the scroll into his storage ring, Chen Nan cautiously stepped back a few paces, intending to leave the area.

But as he was backing away, he suddenly felt something blocking his path even though he clearly remembered there was a large open area behind him with no obstacles at all.

Could it be...

Out of the corner of his eye, he glanced at the center of the hall.

Indeed, the foremost mummy in the row on the right had once again disappeared!

”Hee-hee...”

A strange noise came from behind him. Chen Nan swiftly turned around to see that the mummy was now standing right behind him, its withered yellow-black hand reaching for his neck.

”Boom!”

Without any hesitation, driven by instinct, Chen Nan struck out with a palm behind him.

However, the moment he struck, the skeletal-like mummy suddenly vanished, leaving only an afterimage where it had been.

As he turned around, he saw the mummy was back in its original place at the front of the row to the right, perfectly still as if it had never moved.

Chen Nan was certain that he wasn’t seeing things.

Just as he thought this, the shadow flashed again, and the mummy reappeared in front of him, its withered fingers reaching for his face.

”Slash!”

Chen Nan shouted as the Heavenly Punishment Demon Sword instantly struck out toward the mummy’s hand.

This time, the mummy did not evade.

”Clang!”

The sound of metal clashing rang out, sparks flying everywhere as Chen Nan, sword in hand, was sent flying backward, crashing heavily against the woman in red.

Despite such an impact, the woman in red’s body did not move an inch, while Chen Nan tumbled down, quickly grabbing a flying sword stabbed into her body to stabilize himself, landing firmly on the ground. Still, the force of the impact caused blood to seep from the corner of his mouth.

Though the mummy appeared as frail as dry bones, the force it unleashed was overwhelming for Chen Nan.

As for the woman in red, though she had stepped forward earlier, she had no reaction to Chen Nan’s collision, her eyes still tightly closed, devoid of any sign of life.

Chen Nan was no longer concerned with the fate of the woman in red, thinking only of making a quick escape. The mummy’s strength was too great, and he was no match for it. At this rate, it would surely kill him.

Just as he took a step forward, the mummy lunged at him again.

Chen Nan couldn’t understand why the mummy hadn’t attacked him when he had first entered, yet now that he was trying to leave, it refused to let him go.

Could it be because of that painting?

Chen Nan felt that was very likely, especially since the mummy had attacked him right after he had stored the scroll into his storage ring.

Seeing the dried corpse lunging at him, Chen Nan quickly asked, ”Do you want me to leave the painting behind?”

The dried corpse seemed to understand his words, actually stopped in its tracks, nodded, and emitted a ”cackling” sound.

Realizing it could understand him, Chen Nan hurriedly asked, ”Why must you keep this painting? Is there some mystery hidden within it?”

The dried corpse remained motionless, clearly not planning to respond to him.

Chen Nan felt that this was definitely not as simple as just an ordinary painting, otherwise the dried corpse wouldn’t have bothered to obstruct him, especially since it had shown no reactions when he pulled the sword from the woman in red before.

With this thought, Chen Nan became even more determined to take the painting out and study it thoroughly.

”I really like this painting. Can I borrow it?”

Chen Nan issued a lie that even he himself found hard to believe.

The dried corpse took a step forward, clearly raising its palm, signaling that he wouldn’t be allowed to leave without putting down the painting.

Chen Nan took a deep breath.

”Thump!”

He suddenly stomped on the ground, his Gang Qi erupted in an instant, and his body shot forward like an arrow leaving the bow, rushing toward the dried corpse.

Sensing the energy fluctuations from Chen Nan, the dried corpse seemed somewhat disdainful, casually swiping a claw to counterattack Chen Nan. However, just then, Chen Nan suddenly activated the Dou Character Secret Technique and then the Heaven Breaking Kill, doubling his momentum and slamming straight into the dried corpse.

The dried corpse had assumed Chen Nan only had the strength he had initially shown, and was caught off guard when he suddenly exploded with power, hastily trying to increase its own strength, but the reaction seemed a bit late.

”Boom...”

Gang Qi sprayed in all directions, shaking the entire hall.

Chen Nan was shaken backward from the impact, and the dried corpse was also forced backward due to underestimating him.

Seizing the opportunity, Chen Nan didn’t even have time to control his inner strength, and once again executed the Heaven Breaking Kill, his body like a streak of light, quickly rushing towards the exit.

The dried corpse reacted and tried to stop Chen Nan.

Unfortunately, it was a step too late this time. The speed of Chen Nan’s Heaven Breaking Kill was incredibly fast. As the dried corpse lunged toward him, Chen Nan just brushed past its fingers.

”Bang!”

The dried corpse angrily stomped on the ground.

Its emaciated body chased after Chen Nan like a shooting star, moving with astonishing speed.

”I can’t beat you, but can I not outrun you?”

Chen Nan cursed inwardly, his entire body spinning rapidly, dragging a long trail of shadows, plunging towards the exit.

The Heaven Breaking Kill was fully deployed, its speed comparable to the final step of the Slaughter God Seven Steps.

However, the final step of the Slaughter God Seven Steps is just that one step after all; after completing it, one must start from the first step again, affecting the average speed; while Heaven Breaking Kill was like a meteor streaking across the sky, maintaining consistent, supersonic speed, though it also consumed a substantial amount of inner strength.

The powerful attack power of the Heaven Breaking Kill was greatly related to its speed.

Despite this, the dried corpse closely followed him, its speed even slightly exceeding Chen Nan’s.

Just when it was about to catch up, fortunately, Chen Nan passed through the Water Repelling Barrier with a ”puh” sound, entering the Underground Lake, while that dried corpse seemed to hesitate to leave the cave, angrily howling inside, which Chen Nan could faintly hear from outside.

Glancing back at the Vermilion Bird-shaped cave entrance, Chen Nan’s inner strength surged, his body more agile than a fish, returning along the original path.

”I hope those two bastards are still waiting up there!”

Clenching his fists, a fierce murderous intent flashed in Chen Nan’s eyes.

(The second and third updates should count as stable ones, right? Must there be an explosion of four or five Chapters every day? I type slowly, only writing about a thousand words an hour. I’m too tired to explode five Chapters unless I have drafts! Now I can only write for a maximum of five hours a day because sitting for long causes my neck to swell and hurt, an occupational disease.)
