Chapter 2604: Chapter 2604: A Video Call

”Did you see that? They could not even touch him.” A younger villager whispered to his friend.

Everyone was excited. Long Hui saved them today.

Meanwhile, Manager Kang was still trembling under the sheer pressure of Long Hui’s gaze. He could feel the cold sweat soaking through his expensive suit, making the fabric cling uncomfortably to his back.

He had dealt with angry farmers and local thugs before, but this was completely different. The precision, the lack of wasted movement, and the absolute calm... This man clearly did not belong to the category of a simple bodyguard.

Manager Kang forced himself to follow the three of them to the office. When they entered, Yu Qi and Su Longuo sat down across from each other, while Long Hui remained standing quietly near the door.

”You... You are not just some hired muscle. Who the hell are you?” Manager Kang’s voice cracked as he looked up at Long Hui.

”My identity is not something for a man who hides behind predatory contracts like you needs to know. Long Hui stated.

His low voice sent a cold shiver down Manager Kang’s back.

”He is my bodyguard. There is no need for you to know the details about him. If you are curious about his back, perhaps you should be more worried about your own, specifically on how it will look when an arrest warrant for extortion is issued.” Yu Qi smiled faintly.

This woman was also not normal. She claimed that she was a doctor, but her mannerisms suggested otherwise. However, he refused to believe that he could not do anything to these two people.

Manager Kang quickly reached for his phone. He needed to call someone. Someone who had more power and influence than these people. He looked like a cornered rat, his eyes darting toward the door where Long Hui stood, a silent and imposing sentinel.

”You... You think you have won because you beat my people. You have just made the biggest mistake of your lives. You are interfering with the interests of people far more powerful than a country doctor and a thug.” Manager Kang hissed, his fingers shaking as he tapped at the screen.

He brought the phone to his ear. His face was contorting into a mask of desperate arrogance.

Yu Qi watched Manager Kang’s performance calmly. Su Longuo was panicking internally when he saw Manager Kang make the phone call. ’Should these two people stop Manager Kang from calling others?’ He wondered anxiously. However, when he looked at Long Hui and Yu Qi, neither of them seemed worried or willing to interfere.

The call was connected.

”Hello, Director Cheng. Yes. I am Kang Songming. We have a situation at Mianxi Village. Some... Some lunatics are interfering with the harvest. They have also beaten up our men. Yes! I need some men up here immediately. Yes, let’s just take this land for ourselves.” Manager Kang explained hurriedly.

The call ended. He slammed the phone down on the desk. The sickeningly confident smirks slowly returned to his face.

”In half an hour, a team from my company will be here. They are not just bodyguards. They are professionals who don’t care about provincial medical permits.” Manager Kang grinned smugly.

”Then, do you think you will survive for thirty minutes if I decide to beat you up?” Long Hui asked.

Hearing this, Manager Kang’s eyes constricted. He immediately went pale again. Of course, he would never survive if Long Hui beat him up for thirty minutes. He probably knocked out within a single minute.

Yu Qi also did not look worried. In fact, she looked like she had expected this to happen. She calmly pulled out her own phone and checked the notification.

”Director Chen, you said?” Yu Qi asked, tilting her head. ”I assume you mean Chen Bolin, the regional director of Sheng Logistics?”

”How do you know his name?” Manager Kang froze in shock.

”Because...” Yu Qi said, turning her screen around to show him a live video call that was currently on mute. ”I called him three minutes ago. Or rather, my legal department did.”

On the screen, a middle-aged man was sitting in the corporate office, looking incredibly stressed and restless.

Yu Qi unmuted the call and tapped the speakerphone.

”Director Chen, this is one of your managers, right?” Yu Qi asked.

The middle-aged man heard the call and saw Manager Kang.

”Kang Songming, you IDIOT!” The voice roared furiously from the phone.

Manager Kang looked at the middle-aged man. It was indeed Cheng Bolin. His face was flushed red with anger.

”Who did you offend? Do you have any idea who they are? Their legal team just sent us a folder containing five years of your ’surcharges’ and ’debt’ logs. The board of directors is having an emergency meeting to distance the company from you before the authorities get involved!” Cheng Bolin shouted angrily.

Manager Kang’s jaw dropped. ”But... But, Director Cheng, the contract...”

”The contract is void. You were the one overseeing that contract. So you will take full responsibility for this matter.” Cheng Bolin screamed.

”Director Cheng... You can not do this to me.” Manager Kang begged desperately.

”I’m sending a team, alright. But they are not coming to help you. They are coming to collect the company’s property and escort you to the police station for questioning regarding embezzlement.” Cheng Bolin stated coldly.

The line was dead. Cheng Bolin ended the call. The silence in the office was deafening. Even the distant sound of the villagers cheering outside seemed to fade as Manager Kang realised his ”backup” was actually his curtain call.

Yu Qi and Long Hui watched Manager Kang realize that there was no one would come and save him at the moment.
