Primordial Heir: Nine Stars

Those were like a sweet whisper.

’You have done well, little human. But you have only scratched the surface. There is so much more power waiting for you. All you have to do is reach out and take it.’

Barak’s golden eyes gleamed in the darkness. He was not done. Not yet.

The demon smiled, its purple tongue flickering. The storm was growing. And soon, it would break.

The demon’s influence spread through the dungeon like a slow poison. Barak stood amidst the fallen orcs, his chest heaving, his sword still crackling with residual lightning. The chamber was quiet now, the only sound the drip of water and the echo of his own ragged breathing. He had won. He had triumphed. But the satisfaction was hollow, fleeting, quickly replaced by the familiar gnawing of resentment.

He was still not strong enough. He was still not enough.

The demon watched from the shadows, its purple tongue flickering, its eyes gleaming with predatory delight. The mortal’s emotions were a symphony, and the demon was its conductor. It reached out, its will seeping into the dungeon’s magic, and the remaining monsters began to change. Their eyes glowed brighter. Their muscles bulged. Their roars grew deeper, more primal. They had been touched by the demon’s power, twisted into something greater, something more dangerous.

Barak sensed the shift before he saw it. The air grew heavier, charged with a malevolent energy. The shadows in the corners of the chamber deepened, and from them, the next wave of monsters emerged. They were larger than the ones before, their bodies covered in thick, blackened scales. Their eyes burned with a cold, intelligent fury. They moved with purpose, their formation perfect, their weapons gleaming with a dark sheen.

Barak gritted his teeth. He raised his sword, lightning crackling along its edge. ”Come on, then,” he snarled. ”Come and die.”

The monsters charged.

Barak met them head-on, his blade singing through the air. He struck the first monster, his sword cutting through its chest. The creature roared, but it did not fall. It swung its massive club, and Barak was forced to dodge, the weapon crashing into the ground where he had stood. He rolled, came up swinging, and drove his sword into the monster’s throat. It collapsed, its body dissolving into shadows.

But more came. They pressed forward, their attacks relentless, their movements coordinated. Barak was pushed back, his boots skidding on the stone floor. He fought with everything he had, his lightning flaring brighter, his strikes growing faster. But the monsters were stronger now, their resilience greater, their attacks more precise.

In his mind, the faces of the monsters shifted, blurred, became one face. The face he hated most. The face of Nero.

Barak’s eyes blazed with fury. He imagined each monster was Nero, and he fought with renewed desperation. His sword carved through the air, a blur of lightning and steel. He struck high, low, left, right, each blow carrying the weight of his hatred. He would show them. He would show them all.

”Die!” he screamed, his voice echoing through the chamber. ”Die, you cursed child!”

The monsters fell before him, one by one, their bodies dissolving into shadows. But Barak was growing tired. His arms ached. His lungs burned. His lightning flickered, dimming. He was pushing himself to his limits, but the monsters kept coming, their numbers seemingly endless.

Then, the final boss appeared.

It emerged from the shadows at the far end of the chamber, a massive figure that towered over the others. Its body was covered in thick, black armor, its eyes burning with a cold, malevolent light. It carried a massive sword, its blade crackling with dark energy. It was a boss—a creature of immense power, created by the dungeon’s magic and the demon’s influence.

Barak faced it, his sword raised. He was exhausted, his body screaming for rest. But he would not yield. He would not retreat.

The boss charged, its sword swinging in a wide arc. Barak parried, the impact sending shockwaves through his arms. He was pushed back, his boots skidding on the stone floor. The boss pressed its advantage, its sword raining down blow after blow. Barak blocked, dodged, countered, but the boss was faster, stronger, more relentless.

He imagined the boss was Nero, and he fought with renewed fury. His lightning flared brighter, his strikes grew faster. He drove the boss back, his sword carving through its armor. The boss roared, a sound of pure fury, and swung its sword with all its might.

Barak met the blow head-on. The impact sent him crashing to the ground, his sword skittering across the stone. He lay there, gasping, his body screaming in protest. The boss loomed over him, its sword raised for the final blow.

Barak closed his eyes. He had failed. He was not strong enough.

And then, the voice came.

It was soft, seductive, wrapping around his mind like silk. It was not the roar of the boss. It was something else. Something older. Something that had been waiting for this moment.

”Frustrated, aren’t you?”

Barak’s eyes snapped open. The boss had frozen, its sword still raised, its eyes empty. The chamber was silent, save for the echo of the voice in his mind.

”Who are you?” Barak whispered.

The voice chuckled, a low, melodic sound. ”A friend. Someone who can give you what you desire. Someone who can make you strong enough to crush all those who have wronged you.”

Barak’s heart pounded. His hand trembled as he reached for his sword. ”What do you want?”

”Nothing but your trust. Your devotion. Your hatred.” The voice paused, savoring the words. ”I can give you power. I can make you stronger than Nero, stronger than anyone who has ever stood in your way. All you have to do is accept.”

Barak stared at the frozen boss, his mind racing. He thought of Nero, of his smug face, of his stolen glory. He thought of his father, who had never seen his worth. He thought of his sister, who had surpassed him in every way.

He thought of all the times he had been overlooked, dismissed, forgotten.

And he made his decision.

”I accept,” he said.

The voice chuckled again, warm and triumphant. ”Good. Then let us begin.”

The game was set and the result would be interesting.
