Primordial Heir: Nine Stars

Barak stood alone in the chamber, his chest heaving, his sword dripping with blood. He was exhausted, but he was triumphant.

He looked at the chieftain’s body and smiled—a cold, bitter smile.

”This is what I am,” he said to no one. ”This is what I can do.”

But even as he spoke, the demon’s voice echoed in his mind, soft and seductive.

Oh, you can do so much more, little human. So much more.

Barak’s smile faltered. His hand tightened on his sword.

He was not done. Not yet.

The chieftain’s body lay at Barak’s feet, its massive frame still twitching with the last remnants of lightning. Steam rose from its scorched flesh, and the smell of burnt blood filled the damp air of the dungeon. Barak stood over it, his chest heaving, his sword still crackling with residual energy. His golden eyes were wild, unfocused, lost in a sea of rage.

But he was not done.

The demon watched from the shadows, its form concealed in the darkness, its purple tongue flickering over its lips. It had not yet made itself known. It was patient. It was waiting. The mortal’s emotions were rich, potent, a feast that could be savored. But it would be better to let him cook, to let the hatred simmer until it boiled over. The demon reached out with its will, a subtle touch, a whisper in the fabric of reality. It tweaked the dungeon’s magic, just slightly, just enough to twist the minds of the remaining monsters.

The next wave came.

They poured from the darkness, blue orcs, their eyes gleaming with a deeper fury. They were not just mindless beasts anymore. They had been touched by the demon’s influence, their rage amplified, their hunger sharpened. They moved faster, struck harder, their roars carrying an edge of something darker. They swarmed around Barak, their crude weapons raised, their bodies pressing in from all sides.

Barak’s response was immediate. He raised his sword, lightning crackling along its edge, and threw himself into the horde. He was a blur of motion, his strikes precise and savage, cutting through orc after orc. But his mind was elsewhere. Each face he saw, each pair of eyes, each roar—they were not orcs. They were Nero. The hated face. The despised eyes. The voice that haunted his thoughts.

”Die!” Barak screamed, driving his sword through an orc’s chest, imagining it was Nero’s heart he was piercing. ”Die, you cursed child!”

He spun, his blade trailing arcs of golden light, and decapitated another orc. The head flew through the air, its eyes wide with surprise, and Barak watched it fall with grim satisfaction. But the satisfaction was fleeting. Another orc appeared, and another, and another. They were endless, relentless, driven by a force that Barak could not see.

He fought on, his body moving on autopilot, his mind consumed by a storm of fury and resentment. Each swing of his sword was a curse against Nero. Each block was a rejection of everything Nero had achieved. His lightning flared brighter, his strikes grew faster, but the rage inside him was a bottomless pit, demanding more, always more.

The demon watched, its lips curling into a smile. The mortal was performing beautifully. His hatred was a symphony, and the demon was its conductor. It reached out again, tweaking the dungeon’s magic once more, and the monsters grew stronger, their attacks more coordinated. They no longer attacked as a mindless horde. They fought like soldiers, moving in formation, striking in unison.

Barak was pressed back. He felt the weight of their numbers, the pressure of their assault. He gritted his teeth, his golden eyes blazing with fury. He would not yield. He would not retreat. He would show them all—show Nero, show his father, show his sister—what he was capable of.

He unleashed his domain.

Lightning exploded from his body, a storm of golden energy that filled the chamber. The orcs screamed, their bodies convulsing as the electricity coursed through them. They fell, their bodies smoking, their eyes wide with terror. The chamber was silent for a moment, the only sound the crackle of residual lightning and the drip of water.

Barak stood in the center, his chest heaving, his sword still crackling. He had won. He had defeated them all.

But the demon was not done. It reached out one final time, and from the shadows at the edge of the chamber, a figure emerged. It was tall, its body cloaked in darkness, its face hidden. It walked toward Barak, its steps silent, its presence cold.

Barak raised his sword. ”Who are you?”

The figure did not answer. It simply raised its hand, and the darkness around it coalesced into a blade. It lunged.

Barak met it head-on. His sword clashed against the darkness, and the impact sent shockwaves through the chamber. He was pushed back, his boots skidding on the stone floor. The figure was strong, stronger than any orc, and it fought with a skill that was almost inhuman.

Barak gritted his teeth. He would not lose. He could not lose. He imagined the figure was Nero, and he fought with renewed fury. His blade sang through the air, a blur of lightning and steel. He struck high, low, left, right, each blow carrying the weight of his hatred.

The figure parried, dodged, countered. It was fast, but Barak was faster. He found an opening and drove his sword into its chest. The figure froze, its body trembling, and then it dissolved into shadows.

Barak stood alone in the chamber, his chest heaving, his sword dripping with darkness. He had won. He had triumphed.

But the demon’s voice almost echoed in his mind, soft and seductive.

You have done well, little human. But you have only scratched the surface. There is so much more power waiting for you. All you have to do is reach out and take it.

Barak’s golden eyes gleamed in the darkness. He was not done. Not yet.

The demon smiled, its purple tongue flickering. The storm was growing. And soon, it would break.
