Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year

However, she stopped in her tracks.

Melody Monroe’s mind was feverish, a tangled mess leaving her unable to think.

She didn’t dare stay at Evan Fairchild’s place any longer, so she went back to her rented apartment alone.

The sky had grown dim. She turned on only a small lamp by the sofa, then curled up in a corner of it, hugging her knees with her face buried against them.

’Melody, stop being a fool. You can’t let yourself have any illusions. You just can’t.’

’Maybe Evan Fairchild was just caught up in the moment. But you can’t be! You absolutely can’t let yourself get any ideas.’

...

Evan Fairchild had been in a foul mood ever since Melody Monroe left.

After several hours of tutoring, Ian Monroe noticed his mom was gone. But Auntie Claire Walsh was still there. ’Didn’t she go out with Mom?’

’It must be Mr. Fairchild again! It has to be because of him that Mom left.’

Ian Monroe ran to the study and angrily demanded, ”What have you done now? Mom’s gone again! Mr. Fairchild, when you said you wanted to marry my mom, were you serious?”

’If this kid weren’t my own flesh and blood, I would’ve thrown him out ages ago!’

”If Mom really doesn’t like you, then give up. You promised me! If Mom really doesn’t want to marry you, you have to give me back to her!”

”There are so many beautiful girls in the world. You can marry someone else. Since my mom doesn’t like you, don’t try to force her. I won’t let you bully my mom or make her angry!”

”Ian Monroe, what makes you think I’m bullying her? She’s the one who slept with me and won’t own up to it! She had you in secret and still refuses to marry me! You are my son! So, is she the one making me angry, or am I the one making her angry?”

”I’m Mom’s. It has nothing to do with you,” Ian Monroe muttered back.

’Mr. Fairchild is so scary when he’s angry. Forget Mom, probably no other girl would be willing to marry him either.’

’It would be great if some other girl were willing to marry Mr. Fairchild. Then he would stop bothering Mom.’

Evan Fairchild thought Ian Monroe’s silence meant he was reflecting on his actions. He had no idea what was actually going through the boy’s mind!

Had he known, he probably would have coughed up blood from pure rage.

”I’m going to find Mom. I need to be with her,” Ian Monroe said, then turned and ran for the door.

Evan Fairchild strode after him.

”I’ll take you!”

Ian Monroe stopped in his tracks. ”No! You can’t come! You’re the one who made Mom leave in a huff. She’ll be even angrier if she sees you. She probably doesn’t even want to see you at all.”

’He’s my own flesh and blood. He’s my own flesh and blood!’

”Your mother and I really didn’t have a fight. There’s no conflict between us at all,” he explained, forcing himself to be patient.

’It’s so late, and Melody is all alone. I wonder if she’s even eaten. What on earth is she thinking after running off like that? The thing is, she didn’t say yes... but she didn’t say no, either.’

’I’m not angry anymore! If it didn’t work out this time, no big deal. There’s always a next time.’

Mr. Fairchild had managed to talk himself down.

”Forget it, I’m not going anymore.”

Evan Fairchild was baffled.

”Either I go by myself, or I’m not going at all! Don’t even think about using me to get a chance to see my mom. I’m not falling for your tricks.”

Evan Fairchild was about to explode with rage!

’Who does this kid take after? Who?! Do I need to get a paternity test done?!’

”I’ll have Uncle Page take you!” Evan Fairchild snapped, then turned and went back into his study. ’Having Ian Monroe go over there is still better than her being all by herself.’

A slight smile instantly broke through the tension on Ian Monroe’s face.

...

Melody Monroe was still lost in a daze when she suddenly heard a knock at the door.

She immediately went to open the door, and Ian Monroe instantly threw himself into her arms.
