Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

227: The connections in this world are truly wondrous. She knew it—why did this scenery look more and more familiar?

She had actually returned to her starting point!

Ai Yue’s face darkened; this was truly a speechless situation.

After all that painstaking effort, she hadn’t expected to be going in the opposite direction!

Ai Yue calmed her emotions and set off once more.

This time, the fire dragon in her hand never stopped, constantly clearing a path in one direction; she didn’t believe she could go wrong again!

Entering the white mist again, Ai Yue felt roars coming from where the fire dragon passed, but when she reached the source of the sound, there was nothing there.

If it weren’t for a pile of ashes on the ground, she would have thought she was hallucinating.

Ai Yue looked at the pile of ashes and muttered to herself, ”Looks like low-level zombies.”

She lowered her head and thought; not only were there zombies here, but also her own people, so she couldn’t use such a high-energy fire dragon to clear the path anymore.

At the very least, she couldn’t burn people to a crisp all at once.

When Ai Yue attacked again, the fire dragon’s power was halved.

Even so, it was enough for Ai Yue to see the road conditions ahead clearly.

Relying on her powerful strength, Ai Yue moved freely within the white mist, but the others who had entered with her weren’t so lucky.

The more than two hundred people who entered together were separated from their companions under the cover of the mist, walking in groups of two or three.

They also encountered attacks. Fortunately, the zombies they met weren’t as freakish as those Ai Yue encountered, allowing them to barely save their lives.

Gong Qiuqiu was also fumbling through the mist alone. The moment the rope snapped, he knew. He immediately turned to look for Ai Yue, only to find she had already disappeared.

Gong Qiuqiu could only fumble his way forward alone.

He wasn’t worried about Ai Yue’s situation; he knew her capabilities. He believed that among them, only Ai Yue had the ability to protect herself; he should worry about his own situation instead.

After fumbling forward for a long time, he didn’t encounter any zombies; the path was very safe.

On Gu Xiheng’s side, they were the luckiest. After everyone got lost, only the people he led remained by his side.

Even more coincidentally, the people who had connections with Ai Yue were all gathered together.

Gu Xiheng, Gu Xitian, Cheng Siyu, and even Jing Xi were here.

”Brother, everyone else is gone. Has something happened?” Gu Xitian had experienced too little slaughter. Faced with this sudden change, she was a bit scared. Coupled with the white expanse before her eyes where she could see nothing, this fear turned into terror.

Cheng Siyu, who had been holding her hand, said comfortingly, ”Don’t be afraid, we’re all here. We’ve been walking for a long time, so we should be reaching the exit soon.”

”Really?”

”Yes!”

Gu Xiheng remained alert, watching the surroundings, having no mind to attend to his sister’s emotions.

Just then, a sudden change occurred. Hands abruptly reached out from the mist, violently attacking the group.

The group instinctively launched an attack. Gu Xitian’s Superpower wasn’t a combat type, so it was useless. In her fear, she directly turned invisible, aimed the ability gun in her hand toward the group of hands, and fired.

With a ”bang,” the massive energy hit the zombie hidden behind the mist, briefly dispersing the mist in front of her and revealing the zombie behind it.

With a brief glimpse, the group was horrified. They saw countless zombies hidden behind the fog—densely packed, so many of them.

”Quick, form a circle and use the energy guns!” Gu Xiheng said urgently.

Hearing this, the group immediately complied.

”What should we do? There are too many. Will we die here?” Gu Xitian said with a sob.

”Shut up! Don’t be so pessimistic. If they hear us, they’ll come to support us. Until then, protect yourself and don’t get hurt!” Gu Xiheng said forcefully.

”Will they come?”

Gu Xiheng’s eyes flickered as he said firmly, ”They definitely will!”

Hearing Gu Xiheng’s firm words, the group’s hearts stabilized a bit. Only Jing Xi’s eyes were profoundly deep; she wouldn’t entrust her life to others.

Her experiences from her past life told her that she could only rely on herself for everything. This time was no different.

The group kept firing their energy guns shot by shot. The moment the mist was dispersed, rings of zombie corpses already lay around them.

However, the zombie horde didn’t seem to decrease.

”When will this end?” Gu Xitian’s face was covered in sweat, and her temper gradually became irritable. This was because the ability gun she had been holding was very heavy, and after a long time, Gu Xitian couldn’t take it anymore.

Crucially, that wasn’t the most important part. The most important part was that they didn’t have many crystal cores left. Once the crystal cores were exhausted, they would have to fight the zombies face-to-face.

”Hold on a bit longer, it’s almost time. Someone will be here soon!” Gu Xiheng comforted them this way, giving them hope.

But they all knew he was just comforting them. Only Gu Xitian, hearing her brother’s words, felt motivated again.

Jing Xi was also covered in sweat. She was hesitating whether to abandon the group and escape alone. If she wanted to escape, she had a certain degree of confidence.

However, the most critical moment hadn’t arrived yet. Otherwise, if they survived and met again, they would become enemies, which wasn’t the result she wanted.

So she decided to wait a bit longer.

Gu Xiheng was also anxious inside. His words were just for comfort. He understood that at this moment, everyone was struggling to save themselves, especially since they were scattered. It was unlikely anyone would come to support them.

Unless it was Ai Yue.

Thinking of this, he shook his head again. It was impossible. He had watched Ai Yue and Gong Qiuqiu go in another direction, very far from him. It was impossible for her to come and save them.

Perhaps the fate of the world is just that wonderful. While Gu Xiheng was thinking of Ai Yue, she actually appeared there.

By now, Ai Yue had arrived near Gu Xiheng and the others.

Hearing the sound of people nearby, Ai Yue specifically came over to take a look. However, seeing the countless zombies, she also had a bit of a headache.

”Which unlucky soul ran into so many zombies? Did they fall into a zombie nest?” Ai Yue clicked her tongue in wonder and shook her head with a sigh.

That being said, now that she’d encountered them, Ai Yue didn’t plan to stand idly by. She prepared to use a big move to deal with these zombies.

At this time, Gu Xiheng and the others’ situation was not optimistic. Although their physical strength could still hold out, their crystal cores were nearly gone.

Cheng Siyu’s face was tense as she bit her lower lip hard and said, ”We’re out of crystal cores. You guys cover me, I’ll go gouge out some crystal cores.”

”No, if you go, you won’t come back. The area near the zombie corpses is full of zombies. Even an ability gun can’t cover you,” Gu Xiheng immediately refused.

”But...”

”No buts. If anyone goes, it’ll be me. You guys cover me.”

”No!” Cheng Siyu and Gu Xitian said in unison.

”Stop talking! Without the ability guns, we’ll all die here sooner or later!” Gu Xiheng said expressionlessly, his eyes full of determination.
