Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

207: Could the devil frog have also been infected? As long as there are enough crystal cores, who cares where they live?

Even if they lived in the worst environment, for the sake of the crystal cores, the few of them could endure it.

”Alright, stop being happy for now. Let’s divide the crystal cores, we’ll split them evenly per person!” Ai Yue said with a smile.

”Evenly per person?” Gong Qiumu asked.

”Yes.”

”But clearly you all put in the most effort. If you split them evenly with us, aren’t we taking too much advantage?” Gong Qiumu said somewhat sheepishly.

”If you hadn’t gone to dig them up, how would we have had the chance to unearth so many crystal cores? So, this is all you deserve. For better future cooperation, splitting evenly is the most suitable method.”

Ai Yue explained.

”Right, split evenly. It won’t cause any disputes in our cooperation, so let’s split it that way,” Gong Qiuqiu also said.

Since the two people who contributed the most said so, no one else objected. Everyone received a little over eighty cores.

Looking at so many crystal cores belonging to them, everyone was very happy.

Mo Li’s intention to follow Ai Yue became even firmer in his heart. This time he chose to leave the base for Ye Rui’s sake, but this unexpected harvest of crystal cores made him feel even more deeply moved.

It was definitely the right decision to come out!

”There are really too many of these upgraded Zombies. Let’s work hard tomorrow and collect some more crystal cores,” Gong Qiumu said, beaming.

What was said without thought was taken seriously by others. Ye Rui frowned and asked in confusion, ”Why do I feel like there are more and more upgraded Zombies? There weren’t this many a few days ago.”

Ai Yue’s expression slowly became solemn, and she looked up at Gong Qiuqiu.

Gong Qiuqiu also looked at her and said with a serious expression, ”It seems that in a few more days, there won’t be any regular Zombies left, and then...”

Seeing Gong Qiuqiu pause, Gong Qiumu urged anxiously, ”Then what? Brother, hurry up and say it.”

Gong Qiuqiu’s expression was a mix of joy and worry, ”When that time comes, even stronger Zombies will appear. This also means our situation will become dangerous.”

”Ah? Dangerous? How dangerous? Can we defeat them?” Gong Qiumu’s face changed.

”Don’t worry, it shouldn’t be a big problem. As they upgrade, we will upgrade too. Besides, if stronger Zombies appear, it also means their crystal cores are upgraded, which is more useful to us!”

Ai Yue smiled and comforted them, easing the somewhat heavy atmosphere.

”That’s right, that’s right, Sister is right. The stronger they become, the stronger we will become too. What’s there to be afraid of? Let’s hurry up and absorb the energy in the crystal cores,” Ye Rui said full of fighting spirit. With Sister here, who was she afraid of?

Everyone knew clearly that the future situation would only become more difficult. To survive well, there was only one path: improving their own abilities.

Thus, everyone stopped talking and seized every moment to enhance their abilities. Ai Yue stood to the side, vigilantly observing the movements in the distance.

Occasionally, a few Zombies wandered over, but Ai Yue eliminated them silently without making the slightest sound.

After an unknown amount of time, suddenly a Devil Frog popped out from somewhere and lunged fiercely at Ai Yue.

Ai Yue promptly kicked it away. The Devil Frog landed on the ground with a loud thud, and the noise startled the others who were concentrating on absorbing crystal cores.

The few of them looked at the Devil Frog, whose face was covered in rotten, pitted sores, and were somewhat surprised.

”This, could the Devil Frogs have been infected too?” Mo Li said in shock.

”It looks like it.”

The Devil Frog’s eyes suddenly turned scarlet. It croaked a few times, leaped in front of Ai Yue, and its long tongue shot out like lightning towards her.

Ai Yue dodged aside, drew the long sword she always carried on her back, and slashed at its barbed tongue.

”Sssst,” a harsh sound was heard.

In a flash, the person and the frog had exchanged one round.

Ai Yue was surprised to find that this Devil Frog infected with the Zombie virus had also evolved; its tongue was reinforced and not as easy to sever.

Similarly, its regenerative ability was lost.

If its tongue broke, it was truly broken and would not grow back, as strictly speaking, this Devil Frog was already dead.

Ai Yue did not know if the weakness of the Zombie Devil Frog was still its right eye, or if its other defenses had changed.

Faced with this situation, she could only experiment.

The previous Devil Frogs were impervious to blades and immune to Superpowers.

After Ai Yue probed, she discovered that all its previous advantages were gone. Only its tongue was strengthened, and its movements became incredibly fast; otherwise, it was no different from an ordinary Toad.

Obtaining this information allowed Ai Yue’s tense heart to relax somewhat.

After all, these Toads were social creatures. If the Zombie Devil Frogs became even stronger and attacked in groups, even she would have no way to deal with them and would only be able to flee.

Luckily, luckily, even though the Zombie Devil Frog had many flaws, they could still handle them if they encountered a large group of Zombie Devil Frogs.

Ai Yue quickly dealt with it, stabbing its forehead with her sword. It couldn’t be deader.

Ai Yue used her sword to continuously stir inside its brain, hooking out a white crystal slightly smaller than the crystal core in a human brain.

”Why is it so small?” Ye Rui leaned over and said speechlessly.

Unexpectedly, such a large Devil Frog only yielded such a small crystal core; it was truly unexpected.

”Don’t be too greedy. Even a mosquito’s flesh is still flesh! Don’t be so unsatisfied!” Ai Yue tapped her head with amusement.

Ye Rui pouted and mumbled, ”It’s clearly so big, but it only produced such a small piece. It’s really surprising.”

”Alright, we need to leave here and find another safe place. We don’t know where this Devil Frog came from, and there might be a whole group nearby,” Ai Yue said.

Everyone also felt they should leave immediately.

After hastily packing up, the group left the area to spend the night somewhere farther from the Yingjin Safety Tower.

After finding a new place to settle down, Ai Yue resumed keeping watch while the others continued to absorb the crystal core energy.

The night passed peacefully without any Zombies coming to disturb them.

After absorbing and refining the crystal cores throughout the night, everyone’s abilities had improved.

This made them even more confident.

”Brother, Sister Ai Yue, let’s go.” After packing up at dawn, Gong Qiumu said, full of vigor and impatience.

The group did not delay further and quickly headed towards the outer perimeter of the Yingjin Safety Tower.

When they arrived, they were momentarily stunned by the scene before them.

The outer perimeter of the Zombies was surrounded by several rings of Zombie Devil Frogs!

Moreover, they were packed tightly, head touching head and face touching face, so densely that there was no space to step in.

”What is this situation?” Ye Rui exclaimed in shock.
