Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

218: In this world, do you still have the idea of carrying on the family line?Soon, half a month passed in the blink of an eye.

The day of departure arrived.

Early in the morning, Gong Qiuqiu arrived at the front gate of the small courtyard fully armed, holding a metallic lump that Ai Yue was very familiar with.

Gong Qiuqiu’s attire reflected the danger of this mission.

Behind him followed ten people whose equipment was no different from Gong Qiuqiu’s.

Ai Guosheng and the others saw Ai Yue to the gate and said, ”Yueyue, once you go, don’t try to be a hero. Staying alive is what matters most!”

Ai Yue smiled slightly. ”I know. Mom, Dad, set your minds at ease. I promise I won’t let myself die.”

”Sister, just take me with you. We can look out for each other,” Ye Rui said, her brow furrowed, asking once more with reluctance.

Ai Yue’s expression grew more serious. ”No, Rui Rui. Stay here with Mom and Dad for now. Besides, on this trip, I can only look after myself, not you. If we run into danger, I can survive, but can you?”

Ye Rui’s expression shifted. It was true; her sister had the Space. If they encountered an unstoppable force, she could hide inside. If she insisted on going, she would only be a burden.

Realizing this, Ye Rui nodded helplessly. ”Alright. I’ll listen to you, Sister.”

Ai Yue stroked her forehead and whispered in her ear, ”This mission is extremely dangerous, and I’m not certain of the outcome. If I run into danger, I can hide, but that’s impossible if I bring you along. Once the Space finishes upgrading, we can go anywhere without any worries.”

Ai Yue touched her face. ”Do you understand?”

Ye Rui hugged Ai Yue. ”You must come back safely.”

”I will!”

Ye Rui released Ai Yue and gave a sweet smile. ”We’ll be waiting for you.”

Ai Yue tapped her forehead and said nothing. Instead, she waved to her parents and walked toward Gong Qiuqiu and his group.

Gong Qiuqiu opened the car door. ”Get in.”

Ai Yue nodded and climbed into the car without hesitation.

Gong Qiuqiu sat in after her.

The others also quickly climbed into the two cars behind them.

The three vehicles sped away from the base, accelerating toward the Tianou Safety Tower.

Sitting in the car, Ai Yue watched the scenery flash by outside the window and said, ”Tell me about the specific situation.”

The warm smile that usually graced Gong Qiuqiu’s face was gone, replaced by a tense, rigid expression.

Hearing Ai Yue’s words, his expression relaxed slightly. ”The situation is dire. The survival rate for this trip is less than ten percent. You should be mentally prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice.”

Ai Yue shot Gong Qiuqiu a speechless look and said irritably, ”Why didn’t you say that from the start? You waited until we left to tell me. You did it on purpose, didn’t you?”

Gong Qiuqiu looked embarrassed for a moment and explained, ”No, the specific details only came back yesterday. Over the past half month, various Safety Towers have sent groups into the white mist, but they lost contact before even reaching the monsters. The last message sent back was ’Red Status’.”

”What does that mean?”

”Extreme danger, with almost zero chance of survival!”

”Then why did you say there’s a ten percent chance of survival?”

Gong Qiuqiu gave a confident smile. ”I’m not talking nonsense. We have some assurance, which is why we’re doing this. Otherwise, why would we go to a place of certain death? We’re not stupid!”

Ai Yue’s face remained expressionless, but she rolled her eyes inwardly. She decided to keep her guard up; if things looked bad, she would slip away first.

While there was still time, she needed to find zombies that had evolved to level three or four. Getting crystal cores to upgrade the Space sooner was the only reliable plan.

”Are all the Safety Towers acting together?” Ai Yue asked again.

”Yes. Once everyone gathers outside the Tianou Base, we’ll head in together.”

Ai Yue nodded and thought for a moment. ”What about Gong Qiumu? Knowing his personality, why didn’t he come?”

”There are only two of us in our family. One of us has to stay behind to carry on the family line,” Gong Qiuqiu said in a flat tone.

Ai Yue’s mouth hung open slightly before she finally said, ”In this day and age... you actually still have thoughts about carrying on the family line?”

”Why shouldn’t I?”

”It’s the Apocalypse. Life is hard enough for adults; how do you expect a child to survive?”

Gong Qiuqiu lowered his head, his long lashes obscuring the churning emotions in his eyes. His chiseled profile was sharp and handsome, quite pleasing to the eye.

At that moment, Ai Yue was admiring his profile.

After a long pause, Gong Qiuqiu slowly uttered, ”The Apocalypse... I believe it will end one day.”

Having said that, he lost interest in further conversation and simply closed his eyes to rest.

Hearing this, Ai Yue raised an eyebrow slightly and murmured, ”I hope so.”

She hoped that in this life, she would see the end of the Apocalypse.

Songzhou Safety Tower was far from the Tianou Base. If all went well, it would take three days by car, but with delays, there was no telling when they would arrive.

To avoid missing the deadline, Gong Qiuqiu had set out three days early.

The first two days were smooth. They didn’t encounter any major trouble. While there were constant minor issues, they were nothing for this elite-of-the-elite squad.

Over the two days, Ai Yue spent her time in the car eating and sleeping, fully recharging her energy.

The closer they got to the Tianou Base, the harder the road became and the more zombies they encountered.

Not only that, but the levels of the zombies were increasing. At first, they were just Level 1 zombies—a bit fast, but easy to handle.

But later on, they were not only numerous but also high-level. There were even many Level 3 zombies hiding among the Level 1 hordes, launching sneak attacks.

Fortunately, no one here was weak. Their combat experience was extensive, so no one was injured.

”Gong Qiuqiu, I suggest we find a place to hide the cars. If we keep going like this, the cars will be trashed sooner or later. If they’re ruined, how will we get back? I don’t want to walk that far again,” Ai Yue said.

After wiping out another small group of zombies, Ai Yue looked at the dented and battered car and spoke.

Gong Qiuqiu agreed. The remaining distance wasn’t far, and the zombies they encountered would only get stronger. It really wasn’t suitable to keep driving.

”Alright. Zhang Yu, take some men and hide the cars in the thicket. Camouflage them well.”

”Yes, Colonel!”

Zhang Yu and five others efficiently drove the cars away and returned within ten minutes.

Seeing them return, Gong Qiuqiu said, ”Let’s move. From here on, stay sharp. Watch out for Level 4 zombies.”

”Yes!”

Then, Gong Qiuqiu handed Ai Yue an ability gun. ”Take this for protection. I’ve tried it; it’s quite effective!”

Ai Yue looked at the ugly metallic lump. She had seen its power and felt a bit tempted. She asked, ”Will Gu Xiheng be there too?”

”Yes.”

”Then never mind. I don’t need it,” Ai Yue said.
