This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

For instance, her toes might be lost, or the entire sole of her foot.

When Wu Buwei delivered the medicine, Du Heng immediately had him send it to the operating room. Once the debridement was complete, the Ointment was to be applied directly, followed by a bandage.

Wu Shengnan was not Guan Yunchang; she couldn’t endure having her bone scraped while conscious. Coupled with her extreme physical weakness, a dose of Anesthetic knocked her out completely again.

When Zhao Xingde brought her back, she was still unconscious.

Watching the Patient being moved to the Hospital room, Zhao Xingde pulled Du Heng aside and whispered, ”Doctor Du, this patient’s condition is very serious, especially her toes and the sole of her foot. They’re practically useless due to prolonged ischemia and frostbite. You should prepare yourself.”

Du Heng nodded, thanking Zhao Xingde for the warning.

This was precisely why, for the initial medication, he had only used ingredients to tonify qi and promote blood circulation; he had feared this very outcome.

Saving the lower leg but losing the foot would be no different from failure to me.

Now, a combination of Chinese and Western medicine was crucial to restore blood circulation. He avoided other Medicine Ingredients to maximize the blood-promoting effects of rhizoma ligustici and dragon’s blood in the prescription.

As long as blood circulation could be restored, it would be an acceptable outcome even if Wu Shengnan’s leg bone became deformed or her muscle recovery remained incomplete, resulting in an unattractive appearance and a limp.

Zhao Xingde’s task was complete. After prescribing anti-inflammatory drugs and Antibiotics, he took his leave. The remaining responsibilities fell to Du Heng, the attending Doctor.

After seeing Zhao Xingde off, Du Heng immediately instructed the nurse to prepare the Decoction medicine he had prescribed.

At this point, Sir Wu Zhong finally couldn’t hold back any longer. With a worried expression, he asked, ”Doctor Du, can Nannan’s leg be saved?”

Du Heng didn’t know how to answer Sir Wu Zhong.

Should I give a vague answer? After all, the system had recorded an effective disease record after using the ’whole body divine ointment’. But where exactly did its effectiveness lie? I can’t be certain yet. Wu Shengnan has issues with her fascia, muscles, bones, and blood vessels. Was the ’whole body divine ointment’ recorded as effective for the entire system, or only for a specific aspect? If it’s for the whole system, I can confidently tell Sir his granddaughter’s leg is saved. But what if it’s only effective for one specific aspect? Then it’s practically useless, and amputation will still be necessary by tomorrow morning.

This was the first time he had encountered such a situation since acquiring the system. Although he was confident in his approach and medication, he hadn’t reached the point of blind arrogance.

So, at this moment, he truly dared not make any promises to Sir Wu Zhong.

”Sir, let’s not get anxious just yet. Once the Anesthetic wears off a bit, she’ll take the first dose of Decoction medicine, and then another dose around midnight. As for its effectiveness, we won’t have to wait long. We should have an answer by tomorrow morning.”

Du Heng, after some thought, decided it was best not to conceal anything or make empty promises, but to tell the truth.

Sir Wu Zhong didn’t press Du Heng for a promise, merely nodding with a complex mix of emotions.

Du Heng returned to his office. He didn’t rush back to the Health Clinic immediately but waited until Wu Shengnan had taken the Decoction medicine and showed no significant changes before heading back to the Health Clinic with Wu Buwei.

An hour after he left, Wu Shengnan had fully regained consciousness. Moreover, the pain in her leg made her increasingly alert, a stark contrast to her previous drowsy state.

Her calf ached terribly, but her foot was numb. Consequently, the things she had vaguely heard and the people she had indistinctly seen while in her stupor gradually became clearer.

She seemed to remember her grandfather, parents, and brother being by her side. She vaguely recalled Du Heng visiting, and she also faintly remembered many other people coming.

She had even clearly heard talk of her needing an amputation!

At this moment, even though she had renamed herself Shengnan, and despite her particular bravery during missions, the instant she once again registered the absence of her left foot, she began to cry.

It started with silent tears, which slowly turned into quiet sobs, and finally escalated into loud wails.

What made it even more heartbreaking now was the absence of any family by her side. This instantly created a feeling of abandonment, deepening the sorrow in her cries.

Suddenly, the tightly closed door of the Hospital room was pushed open, and her mother, a woman with the air of a noblewoman, rushed in.

Seeing her daughter weeping bitterly, she couldn’t help but shed tears herself. ”Nannan, Mother is here.”

”Mom, where did you go?” Lying on the sick bed, Wu Shengnan was a mess of tears and snot, a far cry from the strong woman who used to vie with men.

Wu Shengnan’s mother wiped her own tears while quickly dabbing at her daughter’s tear-streaked face. ”Grandpa was with you all day, and he was exhausted. I just took him home. Don’t worry, Mom will always be with you.”

”Mom, my foot... has it already been... amputated?” Wu Shengnan asked, her voice trembling, voicing her deepest fear. She was utterly terrified.

She wanted to sit up and see for herself, but she felt incredibly weak. She couldn’t even sit up properly, and even turning her neck was an effort.

”No, no,” her mother hurriedly reassured her. ”Your leg is still right here, attached to you.”

Wu Shengnan tried to feel it again. The grogginess in her head had passed, but her body was still weak, and the effects of the Anesthetic hadn’t fully worn off.

She managed a glance at her blanket-covered leg and tried to feel for her foot again, but still, there was no sensation. Tears streamed down her face once more. ”Mom, don’t lie to me. Please, just tell me, has my foot been amputated? I can’t feel my foot at all right now.”

At this, Wu Shengnan’s mother finally understood what her daughter meant.

Wu Shengnan was talking about her foot, while she had been referring to the leg.

Seeing her daughter crying uncontrollably again, she quickly helped her sit up a little. Then, she lifted the blanket to reveal the leg and foot, both heavily wrapped in Gauze and bandages.

”Nannan, look! Your leg is still there; it hasn’t been amputated.” Her mother quickly pointed at the bandaged leg, ensuring her daughter could see it clearly.

Once Wu Shengnan had seen clearly, her mother gently helped her lie back down, settling her comfortably on the sick bed.

Wu Shengnan’s tears stopped, but her mind was still struggling to process everything.

She had seen her leg, and she had seen her foot. She could feel the pain in her leg, but her foot was completely devoid of sensation—not only could she not feel pain, but she couldn’t move it in the slightest.

”But... but why can’t I feel my foot?” Wu Shengnan’s heart was filled with terror and confusion.

Hearing her daughter’s question, Wu Shengnan’s mother quickly explained the situation.

As her mother spoke, Wu Shengnan’s panic gradually subsided.

If another doctor had claimed they could save her leg, she might have been nervous, her mind racing with anxieties. But with Du Heng saying it, she felt an inexplicable sense of peace.

She had firsthand experience of Du Heng’s skill.

He had cured her grandfather’s chronic illness of over twenty years. Colleagues from her workplace had also been examined and treated by him. These were no small feats. But then there was the horrifying knife wound on his girlfriend’s face. When all other doctors had declared it would lead to disfigurement and scarring, Du Heng, using an Ointment he formulated himself, had prevented what those doctors had been certain would happen.

This point alone was enough to give her immense faith in Du Heng’s medical skills.

Once her mother finished speaking, her emotions finally stabilized. After glancing around the Hospital room, Wu Shengnan asked with a hint of disappointment, ”Where is Du Heng?”

”He left early after seeing you take the medicine. He told us to contact him if any unexpected situations arise.”

Wu Shengnan was somewhat displeased. ”I was facing amputation, and he just left early? What if something unexpected happens to me? Does he even consider me his friend anymore?”

Seeing her daughter’s pale face regain a touch of color and her spirits lift, Wu Shengnan’s mother suddenly found her own confidence in Du Heng growing even stronger.
