This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng saw that Yu Haiting also had no idea, so he took matters into his own hands.

However, after a round of examination, compared to the situation before today’s medicine intake, there was no difference other than a slightly stronger pulse.

The black-brown stained blood flowing from her lower body was clearly visible through the constantly cleaned and changed paper towels by the nurse.

There wasn’t much, but it continuously flowed out, and as more paper towels were used, a foul smell slowly spread around the bed.

The three of them found it inconvenient to discuss the condition in the ward, so they went directly back to the office, leaving a busy space for the nurses.

In the consultation room, before they could even sit down, Yu Haiting asked Du Heng, ”Dean, I remember Zhu Minyan also had pus and stained blood discharged then, this should be normal, right?”

Du Heng shook his head decisively, ”It’s not normal; it’s different from Zhu Minyan’s case. It’s normal to discharge pus and stained blood, but it’s not normal for it to flow continuously like this, and the stained blood being purely black-brown with a foul smell makes it even more abnormal.”

After saying this, Du Heng turned to ask Wu Buwei, ”You just said that when Liu Amei went to the toilet, a lot of black blood clots were directly discharged, right?”

Wu Buwei nodded, ”After the nurse mentioned it, I went in and took a look myself; there were numerous thumb-sized black-brown blood clots, and the quantity was also very large.”

Du Heng let out a gentle breath. ”This is even more wrong; it’s completely different from the treatment process I imagined. Even if it’s ovarian cancer, there shouldn’t be so much stained blood discharged.”

After Du Heng finished speaking, both Yu Haiting and Wu Buwei fell silent and began pondering the issue.

A few seconds later, Yu Haiting said softly, ”We have done various examinations before, but we haven’t found anything unusual.” After saying that, he looked at Du Heng. ”Dean, should we send Liu Amei to Municipal First Hospital for a hysteroscopy to check more carefully?”

Du Heng was somewhat tempted.

Although he was confident in treating Liu Amei’s illness, he couldn’t be careless with the current situation, as he had no idea what was going on.

He was able to diagnose the presence of stained blood in Liu Amei’s body, and it was necessary to remove it, but the current situation was clearly wrong: there was a large quantity, and it continuously flowed.

Just as Du Heng was about to speak, Wu Buwei hesitated and spoke, ”Brother, I remember Liu Amei initially thought she was pregnant, and it was then that her condition worsened. Could it be possible that she was actually pregnant at the time? And, has her menstruation occurred during her illness?”

At this remark, his mind was struck by lightning, which broke through his muddled brain.

It’s important to know that not only is he specialized in internal and external department, his second expertise is in Gynecology and Pediatrics Expertise.

Gynecology is also his strong suit.

He had only confined himself to the realm of tumors earlier on, overlooking the fact that Liu Amei was a woman.

As Wu Buwei spoke, Du Heng immediately had a judgment in his mind, but he still asked Wu Buwei, ”Buwei, tell me your thoughts.”

Wu Buwei swallowed; he was just guessing, but when questioned by Du Heng, he immediately became nervous. ”I’m just guessing, is it possible that Liu Amei was really pregnant back then?”

Upon hearing Wu Buwei’s words, Yu Haiting looked utterly perplexed, his face contorting as he tried for a long time to understand what Wu Buwei was trying to express.

”Xiao Wu, if what you’re saying is true, where is the child? It is clearly written on Liu Amei’s medical records that she went to the hospital for a check-up when she was almost ten months pregnant, but there was nothing in her stomach. Could the baby have just disappeared?”

Yu Haiting shook his head. Wu Buwei’s words were clearly illogical.

Du Heng, however, didn’t speak. I’ve already largely pieced together the cause and effect in my mind.

He simply looked at Wu Buwei encouragingly, urging him to continue voicing his thoughts.

Right now, Wu Buwei’s performance was truly a world apart compared to Han Yujian’s earlier behavior, giving me some consolation.

Seeing the encouraging look in Du Heng’s eyes, Wu Buwei steadied his emotions and said to Yu Haiting after quickly reviewing his speculations in his mind, ”Director Yu, if Liu Amei was pregnant, but the fetus didn’t grow, would that explain it?”

Yu Haiting was still confused. ”What do you mean by not growing? Miscarriage? But that shouldn’t be the case. If there was a miscarriage, the pregnant woman would definitely know, and even if she miscarried, it wouldn’t be like this.”

Wu Buwei shook his head. ”I’m not talking about a miscarriage.”

”Then what?”

”Dead fetus in the uterus.”

Yu Haiting was stunned for a moment, then immediately refuted Wu Buwei, ”It’s impossible. If it’s a dead fetus in the uterus from a more advanced pregnancy, it can be detected during an examination. If it’s over five months, the pregnant woman couldn’t survive with it in her womb for so long. If it’s from an earlier stage, the pregnant woman would naturally expel it.”

Wu Buwei followed up with a question, ”What if it’s around two or three months, and the pregnant woman can’t expel it on her own?”

”Uhhh...”

His mind went blank again. Yes, what if the dead fetus wasn’t expelled in time?

Du Heng was very happy.

First of all, Liu Amei doesn’t have any major problems; I’ve already found the cause. She just needs another dose of medicine at noon, and after some observation, everything will become clear.

Secondly, Wu Buwei’s performance was very good.

At this point, he directly continued the conversation between the two, ”Under normal circumstances, a dead fetus in the early months of pregnancy can indeed be naturally expelled by the pregnant woman, but there are also some special cases, such as Liu Amei now. She may be affected by ovarian cancer and failed to expel the dead fetus in time.”

Although Yu Haiting thought their reasoning was valid, there were still some unclear points. ”But generally, if a dead fetus remains in the womb for more than four weeks, wouldn’t procoagulant factors released by the degenerating placenta and amniotic fluid enter the mother’s bloodstream, causing blood clotting problems or liver damage? Liu Amei doesn’t seem to have these symptoms, does she?”

Du Heng unconsciously tapped the table with his right hand. ”She does. You may not have looked carefully at Liu Amei’s inspection sheet. Several check-up results from tests done in the Capital contain this information.”

”At first, I thought it was because of the ovarian cancer that Liu Amei’s liver function was impaired. But now it seems that it was not the cancer, but the dead fetus causing the problem.”

Yu Haiting was still puzzled. ”But if she really had a dead fetus, Liu Amei’s menstruation would inevitably return to normal. Whether it takes two months or three months, it would come back eventually. How could she not know?”

Du Heng knocked on the table. ”The crux of the problem lies here! Liu Amei mentioned earlier that she never had her period. It was the absence of this normal bodily function, which all women experience, that caused her to miss the opportunity for early treatment.”

”The growth of ovarian cancer and the increase in ascites led her to mistakenly believe that she was pregnant.”

With that, Yu Haiting’s doubts were resolved. Du Heng and Wu Buwei’s speculation and explanation made sense.

But how to confirm it?

This is the fundamental problem.

”Dean, how do we confirm now whether the bleeding is caused by this reason?”

”The monitoring equipment can’t be removed and should continue to monitor Liu Amei’s vital signs. And since the dark, stained blood flowing out now is not bright, fresh blood, we don’t need to worry too much.”

”If it is old blood clots in the uterine cavity, there shouldn’t be too much of it. After drinking another dose of medicine at noon, it should be cleaned up.”

Once Du Heng made a decision, Wu Buwei immediately carried it out.

After taking the medicine, Liu Amei continued to bleed from below, and even after taking the medicine at noon, she experienced a situation similar to the morning. However, her vital signs remained stable.

After the second large discharge, the uncontrollable bleeding from below greatly improved, almost disappearing entirely.

「As it approached the end of work, the first heavy snow of Jinzhou’s winter finally arrived.」

On the ground and on rooftops, as far as the eye could see, everything was covered in a blanket of white.

The dry air had finally turned crisp and cold. Inhaling deeply, the icy air glided across the throat, making even one’s lungs feel the chill.

Because of Du Xuejing’s presence, Du Heng wanted to go home early today since the road back to the mountain would be difficult to navigate later in the evening.

But before leaving, he had to check on Liu Amei one last time.

In the ward, only a newly arrived nurse stayed with Liu Amei, and the constant wiping from the morning finally ceased.

Du Heng glanced at the steadily beeping monitor and then at Liu Amei’s slightly flushed face. The heavy burden on his heart was finally alleviated.

”Liu Amei, how are you feeling?”

”Doctor Du.” Liu Amei wanted to sit up but was stopped by Du Heng. ”I feel much better. My lower abdomen used to feel heavy, like there was a big stone weighing me down. Now it feels lighter and much more comfortable.”

”That’s good. If you have any discomfort, let the doctor or nurse know.”

Liu Amei nodded emphatically, gratitude filling her eyes.

”Rest well.”

Having said that, Du Heng turned to the nurse, ”How is Liu Amei’s condition? Is any more stained blood flowing out?”

The nurse was new and felt a little embarrassed being asked such a question.

She lowered her head slightly and whispered, ”There is, but not much. It just oozes out a little from time to time. And the blood flowing out isn’t as dark as this morning; it has already started to lighten.”

”Are you looking after Liu Amei tonight?”

”Yes, I am on duty today and until tomorrow morning at eight.”

”Thank you.”

”No problem.”

The young girl was quite interesting.

After speaking, Du Heng didn’t linger, taking Du Xuejing and hurrying home.
