This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

When Du Heng stated it wasn’t the doctor’s responsibility but rather Wang Wenlong’s, Wang Wenlong immediately felt Du Heng was shirking his own.

Just as he was about to stand up in anger, Du Heng spoke directly, ”Mr. Wang, you might not believe what I’m saying. How about this: we’ll use the same house Doctor Han gave you, but I’ll add two more Medicine Ingredients to treat the current desquamation and ulceration on your palm.

Then, give us—and yourself—three days. During this period, don’t drink alcohol or eat spicy, irritating food. If your condition doesn’t improve, or if it shows signs of worsening, we will immediately compensate you according to your request. What do you think?”

Not changing houses, three days?

”Okay, deal. If I get better, I’ll send you a silk banner and write a thank-you letter. If I don’t, you apologize and compensate me.”

”Let’s do as you say, Mr. Wang,” Du Heng immediately promised. ”So, Mr. Wang, would you prefer to be hospitalized for treatment, or go home and treat it yourself?”

Wang Wenlong thought for a moment. ”I’ll be hospitalized then. Given my current situation, I’m really not fit for work. The itching all over my body is unbearable, and I constantly want to scratch.”

From this conversation, it was clear that Wang Wenlong was a reasonable person. As for his scolding of the previous two doctors, Du Heng could only feel they deserved it. They diagnosed the disease and created the houses, yet they didn’t even know why the patient’s condition had worsened. If they weren’t to be scolded, should they be praised instead?

Moreover, Du Heng had the two doctors personally accompany Wang Wenlong to handle the hospitalization procedures.

As soon as Wang Wenlong left, Han Yujian couldn’t help but ask, ”Dean, how did you figure out his condition worsened because of alcohol?”

Du Heng turned the computer screen and pointed to the diagnosis report Han Yujian had written. ”Look at your own diagnosis report. Your diagnosis for why the patient contracted this illness is correct, but how can you not understand why the patient’s condition worsened?”

Du Heng was actually a little depressed in his heart.

If the diagnosis is wrong, it means one’s medical skills are not proficient enough, and this can be remedied through later study and explanation.

But if the diagnosis is correct and problems arise with the medication, yet the cause cannot be found, it suggests a certain dullness of mind, a lack of ingenuity, an inability to think.

Before he received the system, he had been hesitant in treating patients due to insufficient knowledge and lack of guidance, but he would always think and try to explore the relationship between the cause and symptoms of a disease.

Even now, Wu Buwei definitely didn’t possess as much knowledge as Han Yujian. However, Wu Buwei was currently able to manage the treatment for over 80% of the inpatients at the Health Clinic. Based on the foundational house Du Heng provided, he could flexibly adjust medications, something Han Yujian couldn’t do.

Why?

He’s too rigid; his brain is unwilling to think, or perhaps it’s no longer capable of it.

Du Heng sighed gently and said, ”Alcohol has Dregs Qi. Excessive drinking results in this Dregs Qi accumulating in the stomach and being stored in the liver. Some people with a good physical constitution can self-regulate; their bodies will automatically expel dampness and heat.

”When this dampness and heat accumulate on the surface of the skin, people will develop papules and experience itching. If they can’t control themselves and scratch the papules open, Wind poison will enter the blood network. This then forms small patches of brownish-red, light brown, or whitish scales on the surface of the body.

”So, this is what I told you before: we can’t just treat skin problems by addressing the skin itself. We need to solve the root cause; otherwise, it will recur.

”Regarding this point, your house is correct, and the combination of sophora flavescens and atractylodes is also fine.”

Du Heng noticed Han Yujian actually showed a pleased expression, and he felt an indescribable emotion. Does he think I’m praising him?

After a brief pause, Du Heng continued, ”I just spoke from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine. Now, let’s consider it from the perspective of Western medicine. Tinea versicolor is a fungal skin infection, common in young adults who sweat a lot or have oily skin, and in those with poor personal hygiene or low immunity.”

Pointing at the empty office doorway, Du Heng said, ”Look at Wang Wenlong. Is he a person who neglects hygiene? Judging by his build, appearance, and attire, does he seem malnourished or to have low immunity?”

Du Heng had said so much, trying to guide Han Yujian to think for himself. But seeing the confused look in Han Yujian’s eyes, Du Heng knew he had failed and stated directly, ”The patient’s condition has worsened, and his palms have ulcerated. There’s only one explanation: the dampness and heat in his body have increased. The Wind poison has spread throughout the body through the blood network, accelerating the ulceration.

”An increase in dampness and heat is conditional. It can be influenced by the external environment, acting from the outside in, or it can be due to internal problems, acting from the inside out.

”But given Jinzhou’s current environment and temperature, where would Wang Wenlong sweat enough to increase dampness and heat? So, there’s only one reason: an internal problem.

”And concerning internal problems, apart from alcohol, which can rapidly stimulate his dampness and heat, what else is possible?

”Besides, he mentioned earlier that although he doesn’t like drinking, he drinks frequently. Hasn’t that already told you the reason?”

Looking at Han Yujian, who stood with his head bowed in silence, Du Heng took a breath and slowed his tone slightly. ”When you encounter this kind of situation in the future, don’t panic; think carefully and find the cause.

”If your house was wrong from the beginning, the condition wouldn’t suddenly worsen; there would be early signs.”

Han Yujian felt his face flush a little. Although Du Heng was the Dean and renowned for his medical skills, being reprimanded so harshly was a bit hard for him to take at his age.

But what could he do? He still had to lower his head, admit his mistake, and listen attentively. ”Dean, I will pay attention in the future.”

Han Yujian was older than him, and hearing someone approaching outside, Du Heng slowed his tone again. ”Han, your foundation is good, and you’re willing to study. When you encounter a disease, think more about it, and most diseases won’t be difficult for you.

”Your problem this time was a lack of confidence, which led you into a passive situation. Moreover, your consideration of the issue wasn’t very meticulous or comprehensive.”

Han Yujian immediately looked up, gazing earnestly at Du Heng, eager to hear what other mistakes he had made.

”Look at your diagnosis; you wrote there’s dampness-heat, Wind poison, and blood stasis. However, in the house you created, there is no medicine for penetrating the blood and addressing the Wind poison. This is a very inappropriate error.”

Du Heng spoke very slowly, giving Han Yujian time to think. ”Secondly, Wang Wenlong’s illness has been ongoing for a long time; it is a recurrent and difficult chronic disease. You should also add some warm and tonifying Medicine Ingredients to address congenital weaknesses.

”Clearing dampness-heat is not difficult. However, you didn’t include medicines for these two aspects. This is why Wang Wenlong did not see any significant improvement after four days of medication, which led to the sudden worsening of his condition and caused you to panic.

”If you had thought it through in advance and added these two types of Medicine Ingredients, would it have taken a week? In three days, you would have seen a very significant change.”

Han Yujian fell silent, his gaze slightly vacant for a moment, seemingly pondering Du Heng’s words.

This didn’t last long. In a short while, his expression returned to normal. He then glanced down at the computer screen, carefully examining the additional Medicine Ingredients Du Heng had just mentioned.

Medlar, cuscuta seeds, epimedium, and psoralen—these kidney four agents must be what Du Heng used for warming and tonifying congenital weaknesses.

And the Gleditsia sinensis thorn and black mustard spike were probably used for penetrating the blood and clearing Wind poison.

However, even after understanding the functions of these Medicine Ingredients, Han Yujian still had a slight doubt. ”Dean, why do these Medicine Ingredients have to be given in smaller doses?”

”Treating diseases requires setting priorities, and the same applies to creating houses. If the doses of these Medicine Ingredients are too heavy, the priority of the house would change. It would then be questionable whether the house could still achieve the effects of cooling the blood, dispelling blood stasis, and clearing dampness-heat.”

”I understand.”

Han Yujian finally fully grasped the problems with this case.

However, Du Heng realized that the road to establishing his specialized treatment Department was still long and arduous.

Han Yujian was a good doctor, but not a good practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine.

Importantly, doctors like him were not an isolated case.

As for the several new doctors, they were all newcomers; he would have to observe them slowly.

At this stage, he didn’t expect them to be of much help. As long as they didn’t cause trouble and he could smoothly pass this evaluation period, it would be a blessing.

In the past, when the Health Clinic had fewer staff, he always felt they were short-handed, and everything felt constrained, which was quite frustrating.

Now, with more people and increased available manpower, handling matters was not only constraining but also required extreme caution.

At this moment, the footsteps that had disappeared earlier reappeared at the door, followed by Wu Buwei, who pushed the door open, panting heavily.

Seeing who was inside, Wu Buwei quickly said, ”Senior Brother, hurry and check on Liu Amei.”

Du Heng’s heart tightened. He hurriedly stood up and walked out. ”What happened?”

Wu Buwei stepped aside from the doorway and then followed Du Heng out. ”Liu Amei just went to the toilet and passed a lot of black blood clots, then she fainted.”

”How is her situation now?”

”She has been arranged to return to the Hospital room, but she is still bleeding continuously from her lower body. Director Yu is already there, doing a check-up on Liu Amei.”

Du Heng quickened his pace. ”Why didn’t you call me?”

”I did, but your phone wasn’t answered. When I came looking for you earlier, they said you were with a patient in the Hospital room, so I went to the Hospital room again.”

Panting, Wu Buwei quickly answered Du Heng, explaining his actions to show he wasn’t deliberately delaying.

As Du Heng hurried downstairs, he fumbled through his pockets, only to realize his Mobile phone wasn’t on him. He must have left it in the office in his haste earlier.

By the time he ran to the Hospital room, Liu Amei had regained consciousness and was lying on the sick bed, looking somewhat panicked.

Previously, when there was no hope, she was fearless; if she died, she died, and there would be no more suffering. Now that there was hope, this sudden incident had shaken her up a bit.

After assessing the situation in the Hospital room, Du Heng immediately asked Yu Haiting, who was standing nearby, ”Yu, what’s the situation?”

Yu Haiting exhaled softly. ”It’s not too good. Dark brownish, foul-smelling blood is still flowing from her lower body in small amounts. You should do a check-up on her first.”
