Hidden Marriage, Overbearing Love: Mr! Please Let Me Go

Chapter 962: Chapter 966: Why Are You Stepping on My Footprints?

He didn’t want a coarse woman; what he wanted was a gentle, obedient, and refreshing woman. And truly, if not for the United Kingdom episode, she would have been that gentle and obedient woman. She doesn’t rejoice over things nor mourn over herself; no matter what happens, she can endure it silently on her own.

But in this brief week in the United Kingdom, he truly witnessed her true nature, and it was... it was astoundingly shocking. She really didn’t regard him at all, not only poking at his weaknesses and scars but also daring to criticize and scold him to his face...

Originally a gentle and playful woman, she instantly knew how to protect herself while also hurting others. She protected herself so well that she didn’t give anyone the slightest chance to peek in, preferring to use venomous words to drive others away rather than letting them share in her pain. How could he feel at ease with such a woman who appeared strong but was inwardly fragile?

Without his protection, what would happen to her?

During the time he tormented her, he often made her cry, often insulted her, yet she didn’t get angry, silently bearing those false accusations. When he bullied her and threw her into the swimming pool, she didn’t struggle, as if she wanted it to be over with.

In her heart, there should be many, many things unknown to people. What could they be? He had no spare time to find out, nor did he want to know. Because, in his world, there was simply no place for prying into others’ things!

Xia Qingqian sensed that Beitang Yao was somewhat unusual today; she hit him, and he didn’t retaliate? It was really unlike his character.

After quickly gathering her things, she also left the meeting room, following Beitang Yao’s footsteps, stepping into his shoe prints one by one. That kind of feeling was like returning to childhood because as a little child, looking at those big footprints in the snow, her heart would be filled with joy, stepping into each print, wishing to grow up quickly to make such big footprints herself.

Ha ha... just thinking about it seemed so funny, she stifled her laughter, stepping into Beitang Yao’s footprints, one step at a time.

But, unexpectedly, she never thought that Beitang Yao would suddenly stop, causing her to bump headfirst into his solid back, seeing stars in her eyes, struggling to find stability after stumbling a few steps.

”Why did you stop!” Her face showed anger; what she hated most was unexpected pain. This sudden pain really gave her a hard time.

”Then why are you stepping into my footprints!” he said, an air of frustration rising within him.

”I didn’t...” She insisted on her falsehood, unwilling to admit it. Such childish behavior, how could it be her doing? But when she spoke, her conviction was obviously lacking.

”Oh, really...” Beitang Yao looked thoughtfully at Xia Qingqian’s flustered face, his lips curling into a faint, ambiguous smile.

”Yes, really!” She thought Beitang Yao was asking her, so she responded firmly.

”I’ll believe you this time.” He felt even his wounds were mocking him, as he ended up playing along with her childish game. This woman truly... caught him off guard, and it turned out even when lying, she was so cute, her eyes darting about.
