One-Eyed Monster

The old grandmother summoned by Igor felt very strange at this moment. How has this child changed so much? Has he experienced some sort of baptism? His mind has suddenly become much sharper, unlike before when he was so clumsy.

To her, this wasn’t a good thing. She chose this guy because he had an air of innocence. She felt that sleeping within him was no different from sleeping in her ancestral home.

But now, this guy has suddenly become so sharp. If he truly becomes complex-hearted, then she really doesn’t want to stay here anymore.

However, she realized this wasn’t something she could decide, because the person who awakened her was also this silly boy.

Igor called her the Scale of Faith, which essentially means she is stubborn, recognizing only one truth. If she deems something white, she won’t acknowledge black, and if it’s black, she will attack the white, leaving no room for gray areas.

So now she’s very conflicted. If Igor becomes complex, will she be kicked back? Thinking about this, she couldn’t help but remember that this guy seemed to have brought back many of her kind before. Even though those Little Black Hands returned to their original world to sleep, there was another who was also awakened by him, though that one seemed not matured enough to leave the Spirit World.

She’s very conflicted now about what Igor is actually doing here. No, to be precise, what was his purpose in summoning her? Is it just to ask her these pointless questions?

This is too ridiculous.

”In your long years, has there ever been anyone who can capture you? I mean a person, not a spirit, a person from our world!” Igor suddenly asked.

This question was quite technical. Ever since their world changed, emotions brought about all these chaotic things. Among them was fear, and she had such emotions within herself.

”There have been, people who can capture us,” she said casually. ”But it doesn’t matter. You know, once we are awakened, it’s the same everywhere. As long as our will doesn’t perish, we won’t go into a slumber. So, many can awaken us, but the place where we choose to stay isn’t limited to just one person.”

”Isn’t everyone supposed to only awaken their own Reflection? No, I mean one spirit.”

”Are you spirits, or are we spirits...?”

”Alright.”

”Anything else?” the grandmother asked.

”Uh, yes, yes, I just want to know how to lure those spirits out...”

”Didn’t you remember the Little Black Hands? I thought you got smarter, but it seems you’re still the same.” After she said that, the grandmother ignored Igor. She felt relieved because this Igor hasn’t changed at all, as she could tell from this one question.

”Hey, don’t go...” Igor suddenly felt he might have said something wrong. Oh, he wanted to ask more things, but his one sentence ruined everything. Summoning a spirit is no easy task, and now it’s all gone.

Igor had to slowly recall how he used to deal with the Little Black Hands.

After pondering for a while, he finally remembered that he originally used stories as bait...

Coming back to his senses, Igor suddenly understood why it was so difficult to find Stan Sol now.

”Sol!” Igor suddenly called out, startling Stan Sol, who thought Igor would remain silent since channeling Spirit Power was quite exhausting.

”You can’t chant the spells so blandly. You need to be more vivid. You’ve been repeating the same sentence over and over, and they won’t come out that way.”

”Hmm?” Stan Sol looked bewildered.

”Trust me, give it a try,” Igor said, with a very firm tone.

”Uh...” Although Stan Sol was willing to trust Igor, he didn’t know how to make a spell more vivid. Should he chant it with modulation? Or should he sing the spells?

”Why are you hesitating? Aren’t you going to try?” Igor was getting anxious.

”How... how to try...” Long chants like this didn’t suit Stan Sol, after all, he wasn’t a Wandering Bard!

”Do I have to teach you that?” Igor found it strange; could it be that Stan Sol didn’t even know how to tell a story?

”I really don’t know how to make spells more vivid...” Stan Sol said with difficulty, feeling a bit tired as he pulled and recited simultaneously.

To be honest, this was Stan Sol’s first time using such a spell to capture a Soul Spirit. He had never tried before, so he was a bit inexperienced. He thought he would never have to use his Soul Binding Bottle, but ever since seeing the League Guard, he knew he must use the Soul Binding Spell.

The specific reason was that he saw a family emblem on that insect worm. It was a very familiar emblem, belonging to another ancient hunting family known for using worms as their crest, frequently hunting in water: the Bruell Family.

The Bruell Family was most skilled with Poisonous Bugs, but Stan Sol never thought that the Bruell Family would use such a sinister method to hunt, incorporating another one of their specialties: the Soul Binding Spell.

In the ancient hunters’ belief, souls carry thoughts, some good, some evil. Only souls with evil thoughts could be implanted into Poisonous Bugs and must be released by pouring Spiritless Water. Stan Sol asked for so much hot water just to use the Spiritless Water for pouring.

The so-called Spiritless Water is Pure Water, meaning all elements that provide Spirit Power in the water have been removed, and boiled water is a good way to achieve this.

After completing the previous steps, Stan Sol began the true binding. The Soul Binding Bottle can prevent souls from scattering, and the flames are for dealing with the insect worms. He feared these souls might control the insects to break through.

Even though these insects are small, when they truly attack, they are formidable.

He never thought the problem with his Soul Binding Spell lay in the incantation. This incantation had been passed down from ancient times and had no issues. Why did Igor say the chanting needed to be more vivid?

”Stop dawdling, start quickly. Repeat your incantation,” Igor urged.

So, Stan Sol painstakingly recited the incantation again, hoping Igor could recite it with flair.

However, Igor disappointed him. Following the incantation, what Igor said left him speechless...

Igor said, ”Once upon a time...”
