Our Family Has Fallen

Dismas didn’t mind; he wasn’t afraid of battle.

Just then, some soldiers observing ahead couldn’t help but let out a cry of shock.

”What is that!”

A few others looked over and saw a massive figure vaguely visible in the thin dust, its heavy footsteps shaking the ground.

Soon, the smoke churned, and a terrifyingly shaped monster appeared before everyone.

It looked like a giant monster formed from the fusion of countless people, with a vaguely humanoid shape and countless limbs. In the center of its body was half the priest’s body, leaving only her head outside, with burn scars and shrapnel wounds still lingering on her face.

Clearly, the explosion had severely injured her. To survive, she immediately used her ritual, reversing and devouring the flesh of those fools to construct this powerful form.

As long as she could kill these enemies, she would surely earn God’s mercy and recover.

Now, she needed to offer new sacrifices to God.

”Monster!”

Someone shouted, breaking the momentary silence, and everyone, including the monster, came alive.

The meat mountain composed of around ten bodies started to move, using a writhing or crawling method, the monster began to move.

Even the collapsed wall opening wasn’t enough to let it out, but the remaining brick wall was easily pushed aside with a touch, widening the hole.

Imagining the extent of the monster’s power is unbelievable!

”No!”

”The monster will kill us...”

”The Lord didn’t inform us about such an enemy.”

”…”

Negative emotions spread among the frontline artillerymen, as these artillerymen who hadn’t experienced a blood battle with the monster found it hard to accept such a horrifying scene, which exceeded their brains’ capacity to comprehend.

This scene seemed to bring Barton back to that day.

The same artillerymen, the same monster created by the evil cult...

But the difference was that his comrades did not flee; instead, they displayed the battle composure they should have.

”Quick!”

”Prepare the incendiary bottles!”

”Prepare the explosives!”

”Captain, let me do it!”

”You rookie, where am I the captain, I’ll do it!”

Though Team Two’s fight at the outpost was intense, it brought experience. The honor was evident from taking the most trusted aides from Team Two.

Team Two’s members were no strangers to similar creatures, and even ascension demon breed mutants that were more humanoid and intimidating ended up as charred bodies.

Under the constant influence of that environment, even the rookies had the awareness to shoulder explosives; fearing was not in a Hamlet soldier!

However, carrying Hamlet’s explosives wasn’t for anyone, as it wasn’t just risking your life but affecting the entire battle, involving the lives of numerous comrades.

This situation brought many reflections to Barton.

If his teammates had been like this in the past, would he have lost so terribly? In the end...

”Brothers! The Lord supports us for today, show them the roar of the king of war!”

Barton quickly stepped forward, directly entering the artillerymen and rallied them with an inspirational shout.

His comrades’ positive attitude indeed prevented the artillerymen’s morale from quickly falling, and Barton’s words reminded them of their identity.

During their education, they constantly emphasized that cannons would change the future battlefield, imbued with such knowledge, they were proud.

They would not retreat just like that; restoring artillery’s glory was their responsibility!

The cannons had completed loading just now, and now they merely needed to aim the muzzle at that massive monster.

”For the Lord! For Hamlet!” Barton drew his long sword and roared in anger, ”Fire at that damn mouth!”

With Barton’s command, the gunners sprang into action, and under the driving force of gunpowder, these war machines roared deafeningly.

The bombs streaked by at speeds invisible to the naked eye, but everyone could see the monster’s massive figure suddenly recoil as if struck a heavy blow.

Those bombs, able to easily tear through Knight’s Armor and plow through infantry formations, landed on the monster’s body like a heavy boot in a rain-sodden puddle.

The frantically writhing irregular limbs severed upon contact with the shell, merging with the seemingly thick flesh that rotted instantly, splattering like water droplets.

Despite the monster’s enormous body, it struggled to withstand the cannon’s power, with a tenth of its flesh turning to sludge and splashing around, its front practically covered in rotten flesh and blood.

Exaggerated blood pits appeared within, some weaker sections were pierced through, leaving fist-sized penetrating wounds, where blood flowed endlessly.

Even then, two shots missed, landing in the side outpost.

”Hit!”

This round of shelling stopped the monster, prompting the artillerymen to cheer.

”Reload, reload!” Barton did not dare to delay and urged quickly.

No one understood the power of these six-pounder cannons better than him, hence his grasp on how terrifying a monster surviving that many shells was.

The earlier explosion certainly didn’t entirely kill all those heretics, only the Priest was severely injured when handed over to the idiot’s face.

Now those guys rushed in from behind the monster, their bodies covered in blood and flesh, but this didn’t affect their pursuit of ascension at all.

”Hurry, hurry, muskets for cover!”

Loading the cannons took time, and Barton’s artillery unit had been isolated when the teammates fled, but Hamlet’s soldiers were trustworthy.

The gunners advanced, the muskets erupted flames, and the charging heretics were shot within a few steps.

Trying to fight steel with flesh was destined to be farcical.

Dismas had somehow approached the gap from the side.

”No wind today.”

He looked up at the sky and muttered, then took out a bottle and threw it into the distance.

The next second, he quickly drew his gun and shot the bottle in mid-air.

Immediately, a fine powder scattered over the monster and heretics, causing large areas of decay upon contact with flesh.

Their prideful self-healing abilities failed, and instead, corrosion harmed them.

The Witch’s curse from the ancestors continued on them even after death.

Meanwhile, on the artillerymen grounds, Barton observed the situation and began deploying the artillery.

”Site One, target the monster; Site Two, aim for the heretics.”

Upon hearing this, Bonaparte raised a thumb towards the monster, then turned to adjust the cannon.

”Fire!”

At this moment, another shout occurred, and the reloaded war machines roared again, the fist-sized stone shot blasted onto the monster.

Just right, one shell landed directly on the Priest embedded in the monster’s center, crushing it into pulp.

Meanwhile, shells cut a line through the heretics, leaving nothing but severed limbs and blood everywhere.

These became the ideal breeding ground for fungi, precisely the Corpse Decomposition Spore that Grendel rendered impotent, or else mushrooms might have sprouted endlessly.

Now, the flesh was decaying into pus and blood—the horrific and bloody scene even terrified the heretics.

At this moment, another approached unnoticed, throwing a lit incendiary bottle that fell onto the monster but didn’t break due to the cushioning flesh.

Fortunately, Dismas was nearby, quickly finishing it off with a shot, igniting a fire at the monster’s feet that not even blood could quench.

With bleeding, corrosion, now added burning.

It was just a monster temporarily merged from flesh by a Priest with ambitions, even not resistant to an ascension demon breed mutant.

The monster finally couldn’t withstand it, and its massive form toppling created a noise no less than the outpost’s collapse. Nonetheless, those ambitions and flames would all disappear!

”Hooray!”

The monster’s fall prompted cheers from the Hamlet group.

Confidence surged when the enemy crumbled to pieces!
