Our Family Has Fallen

”Let me do it.”

At this moment, a voice came, Alhazred approached with a candlestick.

Without too much nonsense, he just glanced at the most severely injured Barrett and raised his hand to perform the secret technique.

Alhazred’s consciousness seemed to trace back to the moment Barrett was injured amidst the chaotic river of fate, then grasped this opportunity...

Fate reconstruction!

Magical but slightly eerie forces acted on the wound, healing it at a speed visible to the naked eye.

Interestingly, Lance’s healing ability causes the wound’s flesh to regenerate, while Alhazred’s healing method seems more like reversing the injury of the wound.

However, the effect was surprisingly good, directly smoothing the wound without even a scab.

Everyone witnessing this scene had different expressions, not because of the healing method.

Because the positioning of the trusted aides destined them to encounter matters related to supernatural powers, their cultural lessons included simple explanations compiled by the Lord about various situations, giving them some understanding in this regard.

Not to mention the world-renowned Divine Arts of the church.

What they didn’t expect was that the mysterious Alhazred, holding a skeleton talisman, could also perform this skill.

As the saying goes, those skilled in battle don’t flaunt their achievements. Just now, Alhazred and those priests fought in the void, but it doesn’t mean he was useless.

Lance arranged for him to be here, considering support in mysticism, as well as healing capability.

In fact, Lance discussed this with Alhazred, even experiencing it personally.

Fate reconstruction is a feature of the mystical scholar faction, this ancient lineage is not inferior to the Divine Arts of the church.

The core is in manipulating fate, as long as one accurately pinpoints the moment of injury, and then ”reconstructs” fate to bring it back to before the injury.

Changing fate is equivalent to not being injured, so the wound is naturally repaired by the laws, thus the wound appears to reverse like it was being healed.

Manipulating fate sounds more prestigious than Lance’s control of flesh.

But involving ”fate” makes it very dangerous.

Because injuries typically occur in an instant, capturing the exact moment is as challenging as grasping lightning during a chaotic stormy night.

Thus, leading to a high threshold, few in the world are qualified to reconstruct fate.

Even for someone like Alhazred, when using it, he must be fully concentrated.

If done properly, the effect can be nearly perfect like the treatment just given to Barrett.

But if mishandled, it’s uncertain...

Perhaps fate wasn’t reconstructed and nothing changes.

Or it’s half-reconstructed, and the wound heals but not completely.

There’s also a possibility of no healing effect, instead exacerbating the injury.

Manipulating fate may not produce a positive outcome and can result in backlash.

Fate is elusive, just like supernatural power.

Alhazred, unlike Lance’s effortless manipulation of flesh, uses the mysterious power of fate to indirectly heal, causing significant pressure as he’s being watched by the void.

Fortunately, the heretics are temporarily suppressed, so he doesn’t need to tangle with those heretic priests and can focus on this matter.

And then...

”Ah!”

A low growl suddenly echoed, the trusted aide who originally suffered only minor injuries suddenly had his wounds tear open under Alhazred’s ritual, bleeding profusely.

This drew the attention of everyone, instinctively becoming vigilant.

Alhazred didn’t react much, instead, he stood up and casually found a relatively complete corpse of a heretic, without much hesitation, he pulled out the sacrificial dagger from his waist and stabbed it into the chest.

Performing consecutive [Fate Reconstruction] took a great toll on Alhazred, he needed a bit of help.

The luxurious gemstone in the dagger hilt emitted an invisible glow, dispersing the gaze peering at his soul during the ritual.

Then he turned back to heal the wounded...

The trusted aides saw the wounded person healed, not caring about the scholar’s actions, just coming out of a fierce battle, focusing on quickly recovering strength and maintaining their weapons.

Geralt witnessed the strange scene, though a bit alert, said nothing; in this world, extraordinary rituals are nothing, and witchers’ enemies aren’t them, at least not now.

As for Tadiff, he was unconcerned, just treated by the scholar for a claw wound from the heretics, although his armor blocked it, it somewhat affected his condition, originally thought he’d be bedridden for days, now it won’t delay his earning.

It was just said that heretics cannot lose target number three, like not losing electronic cigarettes with thimbles.

The flames brought by the incendiary bottle quickly weakened and extinguished due to lack of fuel in the passage.

The suppressed heretics began stirring again, sounds from within even reached the outside.

Although everyone was prepared, seeing this they couldn’t help but heave a sigh, knowing they just had a moment of respite, some slightly injured hadn’t yet received treatment.

However, no one intended to retreat,

Geralt picked up the longsword, Tadiff drew the axe, Barrett put on the damaged blood-stained breastplate again, lifting the musket, Xize casually pulled out a bloody arrow from a corpse and prepared his bow.

Everyone automatically found their positions, the front row standing firm, those with ranged attacks could freely act behind.

”Kill!”

A roar once again tore open the bloody battlefield, the outcome of battle yet unknown...

Meanwhile, to intercept those heretics, Balistan led some veteran soldiers on a rapid march, triggering a frenzied counterattack from the heretics.

The number two target now also concerns the escape route for heretics within the surrounding area, not easily abandoned.

Moreover, blood feuds between both sides mean their meetings inevitably lead to a life-and-death showdown, not allowing the squad to leave.

”Hold on! They won’t break us!” Balistan shouted, shielding a severely injured soldier behind him with words of inspiration.

His words didn’t hinder his counterattack, striking a heretic’s leg with his hammer, the sound of bone cracking echoed, exposing the fractured leg bone amidst torn flesh.

But Balistan alone couldn’t protect many, those beside him weren’t trusted aides of the Lord nor heroes, the veterans couldn’t sustain such turmoil.

Under the hidden impact of priests’ sorcery, the team nearly collapsed, if not for being second squad veterans who experienced the outpost defense, they’d have broken, yet conditions were dire.

One soldier facing the charging heretic showed determination, willing to trade lives, he’d killed enough.

But suddenly two indistinct gunshots echoed, the heretic’s head exploded instantly in front.

This revitalized them as the main force arrived.

Under a dense volley of gunshots, some heretics were directly cut off.

If not for fearing collateral damage to Balistan’s group, targeting the densest area, they could sweep away swathes.

Simultaneously, the battlefield resounded with a familiar, fervent roar.

”Waaagh!!!”

Boudica emerged, charging with the Axe Spear, skewering two blocking heretics, if not for the axe blade catching, she could string them like a kebab.

Breakthrough!

Slightly bulging muscles on her arms revealed a powerful force, exerting strength to lift and throw the two people into the midst of the heretics, further asserting her presence.

Being cultivated as a hero by Lance, as a transcendent, her power vastly exceeded ordinary persons, indeed by a significant margin.

With solid physique, enhanced multiple times by Lance, and equipped with extraordinary gear granting her wild strength.

Boudica plunged into the heretic group, causing a bloody storm, her Axe Spear leaving dismembered limbs in its wake, coupled with her frenzied shrieks.

”Slash! Slash! Slash!!!”
