I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 345: Chapter 227: Goblin Slayer

Well, that’s all right.

However, he still wanted to complain in his heart. As a professional, wasn’t it embarrassing to come and ”steal business” from us bottom adventurers?

”Truly idle, this person, is he a new professional?” He was still complaining, but subconsciously lowered his voice.

”If I’m not mistaken, this person seems to be Dragon-man Gauss. I’ve heard he’s quite a force among the bronze adventurers... By the way, he likes taking on ordinary assignments, and because of that, he has another nickname...” His companion looked at this teammate of his, who was clearly scared but putting on a brave front, and explained with resignation.

”What?”

”The infamous Goblin Slayer.”

”Huh??”

Gauss vaguely heard the whispers behind him and sighed, keeping a straight face.

He had already given up struggling.

He didn’t understand.

Why did this nickname seem to follow him everywhere he went?

Goblin Slayer, Goblin Killer, Green-skin Killer...

Even after his spectacular performance at Outpost 11, being given the Dragon-man Gauss title, people still mentioned Goblin Slayer when they talked about him.

Could there really be some kind of mysterious power?

Oh well, the assignment is what’s important.

For him, goblins were indeed the best practice targets, available in large quantities and providing substantial ”rewards,” so it was impossible for him to avoid taking goblin missions just to avoid suspicion.

The lingering evil god aura was just an interlude in his adventuring career; hunting goblins was the simple yet fulfilling mainline.

He quickly walked to the counter and handed three assignment sheets to the receptionist lady in charge.

This receptionist was clearly aware of someone like Gauss and saw the assignment sheets he handed over.

The first page was for killing a rampaging boar, but there seemed to be two more sheets hidden beneath it. Upon uncovering them, surprise, surprise... she saw two goblin hunting assignments.

Perhaps he wanted to hide it a bit.

Her gaze subtly moved between the rampaging boar and the two goblin assignments below.

Confident she’d seen through Gauss’s little trick, the corners of her mouth couldn’t help but twitch slightly as she tried to maintain a professional tone, ”Mr. Gauss, you’ve accepted this assignment to kill a rampaging boar, along with two nearby goblin missions, correct?”

”Yes, please.” Gauss nodded, speaking calmly.

”Alright, I’ll process it for you right away.” The receptionist worked quickly, and since Gauss was a professional and becoming somewhat renowned, as long as he didn’t accept too many ordinary assignments within reason, the guild wouldn’t have any objections.

After all, he completed these assignments quickly and well, far more reliably than if they were assigned to multiple squads of bottom adventurers.

The only issue was that it might be a little wasteful of the professional’s ability.

Stamping and registration completed, she handed Gauss his identity badge along with it.

”Good luck with your tasks.”

”Thank you.”

Under the watchful eyes that seemed present behind him, Gauss turned and left the guild hall.

The sunlight was just right, filtering through sparse clouds and casting a warmth on him.

Gauss mounted his chocobo and headed toward the west of the town.

During the journey, while sitting on the bird’s back, he took the time to read the spellbook of Scorching Metal.

After reaching the third tier, reading these 2nd Ring spellbooks became much easier, allowing him to learn them far more easily than other third-tier casters.

On one hand, it’s because he met the profession tier, and on the other, his attributes gave him an advantage, plus he had various talents like Spell Mastery augmenting him.

Knowledge quickly entered his mind in a crude manner.

When he finished the spellbook, the chocobo also stopped in its tracks, arriving at the first assignment location.

The loggers at the lumberyard saw his arrival and quickly came forward to greet him.

”Are you the adventurer who took our task?”

At first, they were doubtful when they saw just one figure from afar, but as Gauss rode up on his chocobo and they got a good look at him, any doubts were quickly dispelled.

”Yes, my name is Gauss.”

Gauss sniffed the air lightly.

Aside from the scent of wood and some decaying smells, he caught a whiff of that familiar stench mingled within.

Goblins truly were ubiquitous, like oversized flies.

”Can you lead the way for me?”

Less than twenty goblins was a simple task for Gauss, akin to kicking aside a mad dog on the road.

”I will!”

”I’ll lead the way!”

The loggers living there were eager to lead.

Mainly because Gauss’s identity badge gave them a massive sense of security. If it had been an ordinary bottom adventurer squad, they would have kept their distance for safety reasons.

But professionals were different. Even ordinary people had heard of their strength, which made them excited to see firsthand how he slayed goblins. After all, the chance to witness a professional’s combat up close was rare for ordinary people.

”Let me! I’m the first to discover goblin tracks near the fence!”

”Nonsense! I saw them when I came out to pee at night.”

”It was me...”

Seeing the workers arguing and blushing over who would lead, Gauss couldn’t help but have a few black lines appear on his forehead.

Anyone without context might think this was a top-notch opportunity they’re fighting over...
