I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 309: Chapter 216: Crawler Evolution IV

Steady yourself against the wall, and wait for the dust to settle.

At the site of the explosion, the sturdy rammed earth wall collapsed with a thunderous crash, revealing gaps several meters to over a dozen meters long in the defensive line.

”This is trouble...”

His heart sank heavily.

The violent explosion was not something an ordinary demon could create; it seemed more like some alchemical product planted in advance.

”A breach! The city wall has been blown open!”

Panic instantly spread among the crowd.

Monsters surged through the breach towards the camp, while some demons climbed up the slope of the breach, quickly swarming onto the city wall, engaging in close combat with the soldiers and adventurers defending the city.

”Roar—”

For a moment, the situation that had been gradually stabilizing turned chaotic again.

After the city wall was breached, those elite demons that had been hiding in the distance finally surged forth. The first to ascend the wall were the tough-skinned bear monsters and the armored earth beasts. These elite demons acted as meat shields, using their massive bodies to withstand the hastily fired arrows, spears, and spells of the defenders, paving the way for the subsequent troops.

Behind them, countless imps with eyes glowing red rapidly crawled forward on the wall with all four limbs.

Gauss on the broken wall locked his gaze on a bear monster.

After confirming that there was no one around him.

He pushed forward with both hands holding the white magic wand.

”Burning Hand!”

A terrifying fan-shaped flame instantly surged from between his palms.

Engulfing the area of the wall in front of him.

The numerous monsters caught within immediately let out cries in unison, and even the leading bear monster was no exception.

Gauss had recently been researching higher-level spellcasting. Although he hadn’t fully succeeded yet, the Burning Hand displayed an initial power beyond the 1st Ring.

A nearly ten-meter-long section of the wall was engulfed in flames, lighting up the night.

”Their life force is indeed strong,” Gauss noted the situation within the flames. Apart from the low-level monsters that quickly perished, the bear monster continued to struggle.

AoE (area of effect) spells cover a wider range, which inevitably makes them weaker in single-target attacks.

”Magic Missile!”

Gauss conjured several missiles.

Quickly locking onto the tall bear monster, which was ablaze and rushing out of the fire.

”Bang!!!”

The missiles hit the bear monster, causing an explosion.

The bear monster, baring its fangs and claws as it rushed out of the fire towards Gauss, suddenly froze.

Then it lost its strength and fell heavily on the wall!

”Elite Demon Bear Monster*1 has been killed” A notification text popped up before Gauss.

Then he realized something.

He looked at the elite illustration page, where the elite points had gone from 43 to 53.

The unlocking of the new illustration awarded 10 elite points.

Finally meeting the upgrade requirements!

Right now, being on the battlefield is the time when strength is needed.

Gauss quickly turned his gaze to the racial talent [Crawling Species] on the attribute page.

At this moment, [Crawling Species] was already lit up.

”The conditions needed for advancing quality have been met. Would you like to enhance the white-quality racial talent [Crawling Species]?”

”Yes,” Gauss replied without any hesitation.

The next moment.

As the elite points rapidly depleted, dropping to 3 points.

A flash of blue light quickly illuminated the talent section!

”White quality [Crawling Species] successfully advanced!”

A surge of energy far hotter than before burst forth from deep within his veins!

This power was not gentle at all; it carried a savage, ancient aura, washing over his entire body.

He could almost hear the sound of his blood rushing, growing stronger and more solid, as a layer of fine energy scales slowly emerged, reorganized, interwoven, becoming more compact and resilient.

And these energy scales were not limited to this; upon contact with Gauss’s body and the [Gauss Force Field], they continuously emitted an even hotter airflow, even permeating the originally transparent Gauss Force Field.

Layers of scales appeared on the surface of the force field.

Gauss’s muscle fibers briefly tore and then reformed, and his bones emitted a faint hum, becoming denser.

In terms of senses, his night vision and heat sensing suddenly became sharper. Even at night, the heat emitted by the demons below the wall appeared to his eyes like a series of bright torches, and he could even vaguely capture traces of energy flow within them.

The original [Crawling Species] text on the attribute panel disappeared as if melted by flames, replaced by text shimmering with a deep blue glow:

Blue quality [Resilient Scale Bloodline]

”Your bloodline traces back to a more ancient origin, awakening a thin yet pure dragon-like power within you. This elevates you beyond the realm of ordinary crawlers, endowing you with a potential closer to greatness.”

An unprecedented sense of power filled his entire body.

”Boom!!!”

Gauss clenched his fist suddenly, and the [Gauss Force Field] on his right fist distorted violently, forming a sharp magic power dragon claw!
