I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 307: Chapter 216: Crawler Advancement II

Walking out of the room, Serdur and Aaliyah were already at Gauss’s door.

”What do we do now?”

”Let’s go out and take a look first.” Gauss decided immediately.

No matter what, they couldn’t stay in the inn. They had to proactively go out and gather information to know what actions to take next.

Many others had the same thought as Gauss and swarmed into the streets.

The firelight flickered along the road, and adventurers carrying torches were everywhere.

”There’s a monster night attack! The knight commander requests all adventurers to go to the city walls and help defend the camp.”

Several cavalrymen rode horses quickly through the center of the street, informing the adventurers in the camp of the situation.

Sure enough, it was a monster night attack.

Knowing the specifics, Gauss actually breathed a sigh of relief.

The only thing that made him uneasy was that many cavalrymen had apparently been deployed to Mist Path during the day.

The forces guarding the camp were emptier than usual.

And the timing, was it so coincidental?

He was filled with suspicion.

Nevertheless, they needed to go help resist the monster attack. Now, within the camp, they could rely on defensive fortifications to resist. Once outside the camp in the pitch-black night, it would be even more dangerous.

”You guys follow me, don’t go far.” Andri walked to the trio and said.

Here, she was the strongest, naturally confident enough to say this.

”Okay.” Gauss nodded.

Andri’s presence made him feel slightly at ease.

It was known she was at least a Black Iron Level Mage, and in her prime, far from the time when her strength would decline.

In today’s camp, she was not the strongest, but at least one of the few strongest.

Seeing Gauss respond, Aaliyah and Serdur exchanged glances and quickly nodded, indicating they would follow her lead.

Andri nodded in satisfaction.

Then she led them towards the edge of the camp.

Don’t be fooled by her petite figure, as a Mage, her speed was exceptionally swift.

The four-person squad, along with some other adventurer squads, advanced quickly.

The closer they got to the camp’s edge, the more intense and chaotic the atmosphere became.

Laborers and non-combat personnel were organized by soldiers to evacuate towards the camp center, while fully armed soldiers and adventurers flowed in the opposite direction towards the defense line.

After passing through the last area of hastily constructed shantytowns, the camp’s final defense front appeared before their eyes.

It was a circle of rammed earth walls surrounding the camp, forming defensive fortifications.

Sparsely distributed simple arrow towers and chevaux-de-frise with pits outside the walls formed a barrier.

However, this barrier was under immense pressure at the moment.

Outside the ink-black walls, there were sharp, screeching noises as countless shadows charged at the defense line.

On the wall, soldiers were desperately thrusting downward with long spears, while archers and other adventurers who had arrived early relied on the serrated parapets to keep shooting, casting simple attack spells.

The air was thick with the smell of blood, gunpowder, and the stench of beasts.

Gauss was experiencing such a large-scale battle for the first time, especially one taking place at night, and his heartbeat quickened.

”Bang!!!”

A short distance away, a certain section of rammed earth wall seemed to be cracking, as if a huge creature was launching a collision outside the wall.

But soon, a man dressed in shining silver armor on the wall drew and released an arrow.

With the silver-white beam piercing the night sky, the commotion outside that part of the wall suddenly stopped.

”Black Iron Level Professional!”

Probably from the Cavalry Corps.

The four climbed the stairs to the top of the wall.

The scene outside the wall made everyone’s heart twinge.

Monsters swarmed like tidal waves in a black mass, too dark to see the exact number.

However, these monsters seemed somewhat off, their eyes glowed red as they roared.

Even when their companions fell under ranged spells or arrows, they still fearlessly charged forward.

Hooks and ropes were thrown onto the wall, goblins and Kobolds scaled the walls quickly along the ropes.

Among them, archers also shot arrows, suppressing soldiers and adventurers on the wall.

”Ah!!”

Nearby, a soldier’s throat was unfortunately hit by an arrow, blood spurted out instantly, he clutched his throat, took a couple of steps, and fell onto the wall with a bang.

Injured people were constantly dragged out of the line of battle.

Arrows flew indiscriminately on such a chaotic battlefield, and for ordinary soldiers, no matter how cautious they were, a stray arrow could take their lives.

”So many of them... and they seem fearless...” Aaliyah swallowed.

The scale of these monsters was beyond any typical commission by countless times.

Being here, even a professional adventurer would feel their power insignificant.

”Enough talking, let’s help out.” Gauss threw two hand crossbows and arrows to Aaliyah and Serdur.

He then checked and confirmed they were fine within Gauss Force Field.

”I don’t need it.” Seeing Gauss preparing to cast Protective Spell for her, Andri shook her head, then a layer of resilient white light appeared around her.

Clearly, she had her own means of protection.

”Save your magic power.” Andri advised.

”Okay.”

Gauss nodded, pulling out the Fine Steel Longsword.

His Protective Spell was only used for his partners, as for others, he was powerless to help.

With the Gauss Force Field upgraded to the 2nd Ring, its protective effect was stronger, but it consumed more magic power, even he could only use it a few times.

Besides, he needed to reserve enough magic power for any possible special situations.
