Global Game: I Have Portable Store

Chapter 391: Chapter 385: Chaos

”There’s a very strange phenomenon. Have you noticed that there are a lot of people fighting here? Didn’t they say no trouble in the gathering place?”

Su Changxing pointed at two people wrestling on the ground side by side, surrounded by quite a few others cheering them on, like festival applause.

Monk also noticed this and said, ”There are supposed to be people managing order here, but who knows where they are right now. It’s quite strange.”

They just reached the other end of the market.

A young man in a gray coat approached them, took off his hat, and said:

”Gentlemen, our boss wants to meet you, wants to show a bit of hospitality.”

Su Changxing looked around and noticed that quite a few people were looking at them, and it seemed this young man was well-known. He asked, ”Who is your boss?”

The young man smiled, ”He’s the manager here. You could say he’s one of the founders of this gathering place.”

”Is that so?”

Su Changxing nodded and said, ”Alright then, lead the way.”

The young man had a darker complexion and walked with a straight posture, a habit clearly left from professional training.

Su Changxing casually asked, ”Are you a soldier?”

The young man looked at Su Changxing in surprise and denied, ”No.”

The young man led them to a relatively secluded spot in the gathering place, where there weren’t any of those useless people, but rather individuals carrying weapons.

They all greeted the young man warmly, as if they were familiar with him.

They went up to the second floor of a bungalow, pushing open a rusty iron door to reveal a large space, like a warehouse.

A pale, gaunt middle-aged man sat at a table, calmly eating canned food, perhaps luncheon meat, with a knife and fork.

He was an Extraordinary.

Monk clearly sensed this, and his expression turned cautious. Facing another Extraordinary, he couldn’t guarantee a victory, especially on their turf.

Su Changxing limped over slowly and sat across from him, sighing:

”Quite exquisite, using a knife and fork for canned food. I’ve been gnawing on it directly these past few days.”

A row of silent people stood straight behind the middle-aged man, all watching Su Changxing: ”······”

The middle-aged man’s hand trembled slightly as he held the knife before putting it down. He looked up and said:

”No wonder, truly beyond imagination. I’m Wu Qingsheng, the manager here. Of course, suddenly inviting you two over might seem intrusive.”

Su Changxing glanced at the row of straight-backed men behind him and chuckled, ”Did you all used to be in the underworld?”

Wu Qingsheng’s face twitched imperceptibly as he followed with a smile, ”Not exactly, just did some small business.”

Su Changxing felt immense pressure from him, like the muzzle of a black gun pressed to his forehead. The last time he had this feeling was when he was tied up with a knife to his neck.

Su Changxing nodded, seriously saying, ”Then your business isn’t very legitimate.”

Not legitimate?

Wu Qingsheng raised an eyebrow, cryptically saying, ”Well, we don’t touch that.”

Su Changxing leaned back in the chair, resting one hand on the table, calmly saying, ”Let’s just say it. What do you want?”

Wu Qingsheng wiped his mouth with a prepared napkin, thought for a moment, and said:

”Things are utterly different than I imagined. I didn’t expect you to be this strong ... these days, our gathering place is in a peculiar status. You two are special, so I wanted to meet.”

”Peculiar status, what kind of peculiar status?”

Su Changxing immediately asked, already having some guesses in his mind.

Wu Qingsheng hesitated for a moment and then said:

”Let’s put it this way, it’s chaotic. The whole gathering place is in disarray. Even within our team, riots have erupted, causing many casualties. It seems everyone has become sensitive, volatile, and prone to anger.”

”We don’t know exactly what’s happening, but it’s undoubtedly abnormal; in these days, our death count has exponentially increased, with corpses piling up in the back streets, and even the zombies can’t be cleared out.”

Su Changxing thought for a moment and said, ”So you suspect us?”

Wu Qingsheng shook his head, calmly saying:

”Not at all. Since you two came here, it’s natural that I want to see you. Besides, we are all compatriots. I hope no one is too indifferent and lends a hand when needed.”

Su Changxing chuckled lightly, ”Those useless people outside didn’t receive your help.”

Wu Qingsheng’s eyes sharpened, and he said solemnly:

”Keeping them here is the greatest help I can provide. In the apocalypse, some are bound to die, it’s unavoidable. As a Superior, if the big picture is right, then that is the right course.”

Su Changxing shifted topics, saying, ”Do you have any Extraordinary Crystals here? I’d like to buy some.”

Wu Qingsheng was taken aback, then bitterly smiled, ”We had some before, but not now. They say consuming it gives a chance to become an Extraordinary, but everyone I’ve seen ended up dead.”

Su Changxing showed surprise, ”You just ate that stuff directly?”

Wu Qingsheng nodded, ”Yes, we thought that was the way to become Extraordinary.”

Su Changxing shrugged, ”Hmm, if there’s nothing else, we’ll be on our way.”

Wu Qingsheng stood up and said:

”If you have any requests, just let me know. Also, if there’s any news about the previous matter, please inform me right away.”

Su Changxing smiled and said, ”That’s not a problem. After all, as you said, we’re all compatriots.”

With that, Su Changxing led Monk out, limping, the sound of footsteps like a cane tapping on the ground.

······

”Boss, he’s just a cripple. Do we really need to be afraid of him?”

The burly man asked, puzzled.

Wu Qingsheng shook his head earnestly, ”Trust me, he’s a very terrifying person. You better respect him, or at least don’t provoke him.”

”I have a bad feeling, something will go wrong, definitely something will. A Long, take some people and search again to see if there’s anything unusual.”

A massive gathering place, tens of thousands of people, felt like a mountain pressing on him. Any incident would be his responsibility.

This was his responsibility as a manager.

······

”He’s also an Extraordinary, but probably not as strong as me.”

After walking out, Monk said quietly.

Su Changxing nodded, ”But strength can’t be gauged so simply. You have to actually fight to see.”

As they walked back to the market, things were already amiss. Two groups of people were fighting fiercely in front of a shop, blood was everywhere on the tiles, and more than a dozen people were struggling on the ground.

Su Changxing frowned and gestured, ”Let’s go around them.”
