Chapter 387: Chapter 381: The Wretched

The monk stood up from the ground and said, ”What was that thing?”

He clearly saw something similar to a ghost appear at the door.

Su Changxing unabashedly said, ”Evil Spirit, something formed from a soul after death, yes, just like what you’re thinking now.”

At this moment, the monk stared at Su Changxing, looking dazed, thinking that this so-called demon might just look like this.

Seeing the monk’s blank expression, Su Changxing asked, ”Hmm, what’s wrong?”

The monk plopped himself back onto the ground and said, ”Those of Chenxi are not even as good as demons.”

”You think I’m a demon?”

Su Changxing was a bit surprised.

The monk nodded, ”If not, how could you possibly control deceased souls?”

This monk really doesn’t get it... Su Changxing couldn’t help but criticize internally, responding with a bit of annoyance, ”Isn’t it possible that I’m an Extraordinary?”

The monk took out something resembling chocolate from his pocket, fed it to himself, and then stood up and said:

”Let me take you out of here. I’m afraid someone from Chenxi will come looking for us soon. We’ve killed so many people, they won’t let this slide.”

Su Changxing nodded and corrected him, ”Hmm, it has nothing to do with me, it was all you who did the killing.”

The monk’s face twitched, suddenly at a loss for words, and he thought for a moment before saying, ”Hmm, I single-handedly unleashed divine power and wiped them all out.”

Su Changxing chuckled, finding the monk somewhat amusing, and said, ”I think you should change your outfit first, you’re easily recognizable as a monk.”

With that, he took a set of clothes and a hat from his backpack and handed them to the monk.

The monk didn’t hesitate and immediately changed into the clothes, put on the hat, but still couldn’t completely hide his aura.

”Where are we going?”

The monk carried Su Changxing and asked.

Su Changxing thought for a moment and said, ”Let’s find a safer place, preferably avoiding those from Chenxi, otherwise, it would be troublesome since you’re currently wanted.”

The monk seemed to have a plan and said, ”There’s a spontaneously formed settlement over there, unrelated to Chenxi, as long as you pay points, you can get in.”

”A spontaneously formed settlement?”

Su Changxing was a bit surprised, not expecting such a thing.

The monk felt that Su Changxing was completely unaware of the situation around here, saying:

”Now it doesn’t count as spontaneously formed; there’s someone managing it. It’s just that it originally was formed spontaneously, with tens of thousands of people gathered there.”

”But there’s a severe problem there as well, food is completely insufficient, every day people starve to death.”

The distance was not short, but the monk’s speed was fast, and by the time the sun set, they arrived at this settlement.

The entrance was blocked by a large number of obstacles, with over ten people holding crossbows standing atop them, watching the people below, and torches were already inserted along the edges of the obstacles.

A man with a cigarette dangling from his mouth, wearing a gray duckbill cap, stood at the entrance and upon seeing Su Changxing and the monk, merely said indifferently:

”Two people, a hundred points. If you want to enter, no making trouble, if something happens, you’re responsible for the consequences, you can come in and out freely within a day.”

The monk nodded, having been here before, and paid a hundred points with ease, then carried Su Changxing in. Inside, it was pitch black, but clusters of firelight could be seen.

Su Changxing was also quite amazed at how these people managed to clear such a large area in such a short time.

Clearly, there were no zombies around here.

After they walked a few steps, they could see shadowy figures in the distance, and suddenly seven or eight people rushed out from the darkness and surrounded them.

”Hand over some food you have on you, and you’ll be allowed to leave.”

The one speaking was a chubby guy with a stubbly beard, his face full of flesh, holding a short knife aimed at the monk.

It seemed they had been waiting here for a while.

Su Changxing, somewhat curious, said, ”Isn’t fighting prohibited here? And you’re doing this right at the entrance?”

The chubby man said bluntly, ”Humph, that’s for outsiders, we’re just charging a fee. Since you have a wounded person, just give a little token and it’ll be enough.”

Before he could finish, the monk punched him in the head, causing the chubby man to fall to the ground wailing, which stunned the others.

Su Changxing hadn’t expected the monk to be so reckless, immediately resorting to violence. Is this not someone else’s territory?

He intervened to stop the monk’s actions, took out a bag of biscuits, and tossed it onto the chubby man, grinning, ”Ha, sorry about that, my friend here has a bit of a fiery temper. Take it as an apology, we’ll be on our way.”

The monk swaggered further inside while carrying Su Changxing. The others showed no intention to stop them, they were cowards at heart, and naturally backed down when facing a tough opponent.

After walking some distance, the monk came to his senses and said, ”Will they retaliate?”

Su Changxing reckoned the monk hadn’t done something like this before and said, ”No, you’re so fierce, they definitely won’t.”

Then, they saw a large group of people squatting or lying by the street, some asleep, others scrolling through forums on their phones.

”All these people are out on the street? Are there no more places to stay?” Su Changxing asked.

The monk’s expression involuntarily turned serious, shaking his head:

”Not entirely, it’s just that space is limited. They’re considered the lowest here, referred to as ’wastes,’ almost waiting for death. Moreover, they haven’t zombified yet.”

Su Changxing thought for a moment and said, ”They’ll starve to death?”

The monk nodded, showing a sarcastic expression:

”Yes, they probably will starve to death. They’ve completely entered a vicious cycle, too hungry to have the strength to fetch food, so they only get hungrier.”

”Ironically, their only chance for survival is zombification. Once they show signs of it, they almost don’t need to eat or rest.”

Su Changxing found it very reasonable, saying, ”As long as they don’t fully zombify before the game ends, they can survive.”

At some point, tears welled in the monk’s eyes as he said:

”That’s right, so showing signs of zombification isn’t entirely bad. Within certain limits, it allows more people to survive... There’s simply not enough food left in this world.”

Su Changxing pursed his lips into a smile and said, ”Ha, is this what they call living towards death?”

The monk seemed to have extraordinary insight into such matters, showcasing an unusual wisdom.

The people crouched by the roadside looked at them like hungry wild dogs, their eyes gleaming, ready to pounce given the slightest chance.

The monk lowered his head, glancing at them from the corner of his eye, and softly said, ”There is no Buddha in this world, or we wouldn’t have fallen into it. It’s all fiction, all fiction.”
