Reborn As Noble

The two of them stared, dumbfounded, seeing their leader, a man they knew as one of the best assassins and their master, in a state of pure panic, his face pale, his eyes wide with fear, and his movements frantic as he rushed to mount his horse.

”Leader... what happened?”

”What happened!? You ask what happened!?” The leader snapped, already on his horse and glaring down at them. ”Those fucking Armand forces are here, and our mission has failed! Now grab your fucking horses and let’s get out of here, fast!”

The two of them watched as the other personnel, along with Vendosa and Sorana, mounted their horses in a rush. They quickly followed suit, mounting their own horses and galloping after the leader.

While moving at full speed, the two of them glanced at each other.

”I wonder what made our leader look like that...”

”Who knows. But if he’s like this, I’m sure it’s something we don’t want to stick around to find out.”

They glanced around and noticed some of their comrades were missing.

He looked at his partner. ”Didn’t Bragar, Mukan, Fasnag, Rijam, and Olark meet us just a week ago?”

His partner scanned the surroundings while still on his horse. ”You mean the summoner unit who visited us before?”

”Yeah... but I don’t see them with us.”

”Now that you mention it, I don’t see them either. But there were still horses left for them at the stable. Besides, they’re all strong summoners. Some of the rarest talent in our unit.”

”What are you two talking about back there!?” the leader shouted, turning his head to glare at them.

”Sorry, Leader. We were just talking about our summoner unit, Bragar and the others.”

”They’re all dead!!”

The two of them were shocked, their eyes widening.

One of them lost focus.

”They’re all dead?”

The ones known as the most talented in dark magic and rift summoning... among the strongest in their unit...

They weren’t just regular summoners like those seen among adventurers.

They were the best of the best, advanced summoners who could fight with magic, excel in close combat, handle assassinations, and summon powerful rift monsters... dead?

His partner, seeing the other fall silent, glanced at their leader and asked.

”For real, Leader!?”

”Yeah! And a lot of our other units inside are also dead! You know Armand came with their strongest pair. Alf and Erinette! Now stop talking and focus if you both want to stay alive and get out of this town!”

The leader changed their pace, veering sharply toward the forest path.

”Everyone! Through here!”

The others followed closely behind on their horses.

The leader gritted his teeth, focusing on the path ahead.

Shit, shit, shit! How did Armand get the letter?

I already sent my best unit to intercept and kill the messenger riding to Armand. I even manipulated Rolland when he insisted on writing the letter, telling him the road to Armand from Mathrias within the Human Kingdom was too dangerous and that the messenger would have to take the longer route through the Beastkin Nation, where my best unit was waiting to ambush them.

And yet they still came! Not only did Garius come personally, but Alf, the strongest assassin on the continent, and his wife, Erinette, the best dual magic sword wielder, are here too.

Shit, shit, shit. I’m sure they have even more elite units under Alf around them.

Not to mention those knights who suddenly appeared out of nowhere and took Rolland and Sylvia. And they were able to revive Gracelle.

Shit... Now I have a huge problem.

Fuck! I already told the client to use an instant kill, poison, a blade in the dark, a curse that strikes fast and clean. But the client insisted on waiting, saying they wanted her to suffer.

Now not only did we fail to kill Gracelle, but Rolland and Sylvia are also out of our reach. And damn it! Rolland sent his only son to study somewhere we couldn’t even track.

We had the best summoners among us to ensure the entire Mathrias family died after their daughter did. We were going to make it look like an attack from demons and monsters.

And yet those Armand forces got in our way!

I couldn’t believe it. They arrived in that huge iron flying thing we had no information about! The only intel we had on Armand was what everyone else was talking about, their weird towers they call mana relay towers, which they claim allow instant communication, though I doubted it was true, and their strange defensive systems.

If Armand hadn’t come today, we would have already killed the entire family, and Lord Bardigas could have claimed the entire Mathrias region, absorbing it into his land without waiting for a full-scale war. We spent more than four years weakening their army as they focused too much on saving their daughter.

And we would have gained more wealth and land for my House of Assassins if this had succeeded.

But now everything is in ruins!

And according to the information we have on Armand, they have the best investigation, counter-intelligence, and intelligence-gathering capabilities. They’re thorough, efficient, and relentless.

I need to inform headquarters about this. We need to prepare before we face the strongest assassin from Armand and his units. He might be the best, and his units might be that good, but if they come to our base, they’ll likely fail. Our base is filled with traps, hidden passages, and defenses designed to neutralize even the most skilled intruders.

I’m sure Alf and Erinette will be sent to deal with us. And I’m sure their full assassin team from the House of Shadow under Alf will be with them.

The leader grinned wickedly.

If we’re able to kill Alf in our base, that means we become the strongest house of assassins in the whole world. No longer second rank. And since we’ve focused on dark magic, forbidden techniques, and shadow manipulation, I’m sure we’ll be able to kill them.

Can’t wait for it.

If they send any other assassins, they know they won’t be able to match us or even put up a fight. They’ll have to send Alf, or they’ll face a huge failure.

He grinned darkly.

It’s time, Alf! I might be second rank in terms of power and skill, but I’ve trained to be the best just to surpass you. And it’s been more than years since that event. I can’t wait to fight you again.

Just you wait, Alf. This is the end for you and your House of Shadow.

Because my house, the House of Dark Veil, will be the best among the best, reigning supreme in the world of shadows.
