50 Chapter 50: The day of the contract 2026-10-29

I held the pen between my fingers.

I quickly read the signature line.

Then I wrote my full name.

George Gil.

As soon as the pen’s tip finished the final stroke...

A chill ran down my spine.

The hairs on my arms stood up instantly.

My heart raced for a brief moment.

I frowned.

The sensation vanished as quickly as it had appeared.

Even so...

An inexplicable certainty was born within me.

That contract was not just a piece of paper.

There was magic involved.

Instinctively, I knew it.

If I ever broke that agreement...

The consequences would be real.

Cedric noticed my reaction.

A satisfied smile spread across his face.

—You felt it, didn’t you?

He carefully placed the contract inside a drawer.

—The tower’s contracts are magically recognized.

—As long as both parties uphold their end of the agreement...

—Nothing will happen.

He then slid a small leather pouch across the counter.

The soft clinking of crystals echoed gently.

—Here they are.

—Five magic crystals.

—They belong to you now.

I picked up the small pouch.

It was surprisingly heavy for its size.

I discreetly opened it.

Five small bluish crystals shimmered inside.

Each one seemed to emit a faint glow of its own.

I closed the pouch again.

Then tucked it close to my body.

I nodded at Cedric.

—Thank you.

He smiled.

—Good luck.

—I hope to see you again soon.

I smiled back.

—So do I.

I turned around and began walking.

As I headed toward the betting area...

The announcer’s voice echoed throughout the arena once more.

—Ladies and gentlemen!

—The contestants have just entered the arena!

An explosion of cheers swept through the hall.

I quickly approached the metal railing.

First...

My eyes found the young woman with white hair.

She walked slowly across the battlefield.

She wore light dark leather armor that allowed her complete freedom of movement.

Her long legs moved silently across the stone.

Between her fingers...

Two daggers spun continuously.

The motion was so natural that it seemed like an extension of her own body.

—Biochip.

—Analyze.

[Beep!]

[STATUS]

Name: Myla Elzy

Sex: Female

Age: 16

[BODY STATUS]

Strength: 1.3

Agility: 3.2

Vigor: 1.5

Vital Energy: Awakened.

I studied those numbers.

My attention lingered on her agility.

Three point two...

It was absurd.

If I had to face someone that fast...

My biochip would probably be the only thing capable of keeping up with her movements.

She was a born assassin.

Beautiful, agile, and deadly.

A single well-placed strike would probably be enough to end a fight.

I soon shifted my gaze to the other side of the arena.

Mork Trus.

He was the complete opposite.

Gigantic.

He wore heavy plate armor.

In his hands...

Two enormous axes.

He smiled arrogantly as he rested one of the weapons on his shoulder.

[Beep!]

[STATUS]

Name: Mork Trus

Sex: Male

Age: 19

[BODY STATUS]

Strength: 3.5

Agility: 2.5

Vigor: 3.9

Vital Energy: Awakened.

What a monster...

His strength was nearly three times greater than Myla’s.

And his vigor was even more impressive.

Even though he was slower...

His agility was still above the average knight’s.

—Biochip.

—Compare them both.

—Then run combat simulations.

[Beep!]

[Initializing simulations...]

[Multiple holograms began to appear before my eyes.]

[Each one displayed a different scenario.]

[Simulation 01.]

Myla attacked first.

She landed a dagger strike on his shoulder.

Mork completely ignored the wound.

He shattered one of her arms with a single blow.

Mork wins.

[Simulation 07.]

Myla managed to poison him.

She kept her distance for several minutes.

Mork’s performance gradually declined.

Even so...

He managed to catch her before the poison could take lethal effect.

Mork wins.

[Simulation 15.]

Myla exploited his blind spots.

Superficial wounds.

Flawless movement.

After dozens of attacks...

Her vital energy began to decline.

Mork endured virtually everything.

When he finally landed a hit...

The fight ended immediately.

Mork wins.

The simulations continued.

Twenty.

Thirty.

Forty.

Fifty.

The biochip rapidly processed countless possibilities.

A few minutes later...

The result appeared.

[Statistical Results]

[Number of Simulations: 100]

[Mork Trus Victories: 87]

[Myla Elzy Victories: 13]

[Estimated Probability of Victory]

[Mork Trus: 87%]

[Myla Elzy: 13%]

There was no absolute certainty.

But...

An eighty-seven percent probability was more than enough for me.

I immediately closed the report.

I stepped away from the railing.

Then I started walking quickly.

I needed to place my bet before the fight began.

When it was finally my turn in line, I placed the small leather pouch on the counter.

The betting clerk only looked up for a brief moment.

Then he pulled a massive ledger closer.

His voice was completely indifferent.

—Who are you betting on?

—Mork Trus.

He nodded, as if he heard that answer dozens of times a day.

Before reaching for the pouch of crystals, he looked up again and said,

—Before I register your bet...

—I need to confirm a few details.

I nodded.

He spoke in a mechanical tone.

—The betting system in this arena follows an all-or-nothing model.

—If your fighter wins, you’ll receive the payout based on the odds recorded at the time the bet is placed.

—If your fighter loses...

—You lose the full amount you wagered.

He partially closed the ledger.

—Do you fully understand that this is a high-risk investment?

—And that you could lose all the money you’ve wagered?

I looked at him calmly.

—I fully understand.

He held my gaze for a few seconds.

Then he opened the ledger again.

—Very well.

He held out his hand.

I pushed the pouch containing the five magic crystals toward him.

He counted each crystal.

Then they all disappeared into a small wooden box behind the counter.

Next, he dipped his pen into the ink.

—Full name?

—George Gil.

The pen moved swiftly across the page.

—Room number?

I gave him the number of my dormitory room.

He finished writing.

He gently blew on the ink.

Then he tore off a small piece of thick paper.

He quickly wrote a few codes on it.

Stamped it with a red seal.

Then handed it to me.

—Keep this safe.

I took the small receipt.

He continued.

—Without this receipt...

—There is no prize.

—If you win...

—It’s the only way to claim your crystals.

I nodded.

—Understood.

I carefully folded the paper.

Then tucked it into an inner pocket of my clothes.

I pressed it for a few seconds to make sure it wouldn’t fall out.

Then I left the counter.

I started looking for a good place to watch the fight.

After walking through a few aisles between the stands, I found an empty seat almost directly facing the arena.

I sat down.

From there...

I could see almost everything.

The two competitors were already in position.

The enormous stone arena somehow seemed small beneath the tension that filled the air.

Mork slowly spun one of his axes.

Then flashed a broad grin.

—You’re even prettier up close.

Myla continued twirling one of her daggers between her fingers.

She didn’t even bother to reply.

Mork laughed.

—You’re brave too.

—I like that.

She finally raised her eyes.

—Are you going to fight...

—Or do you plan on keeping talking?

The crowd burst into laughter.

Mork seemed to enjoy her response even more.

—I’ve changed my mind...

—I don’t think I’ll kill you.

Myla subtly arched an eyebrow.

He pointed one of his axes at her.

—I’m taking you with me.

—I really have a thing for fast women.

Then he flashed an arrogant smile.

—I’ll make you my concubine.

—A woman who knows how to obey.

—Submissive right here and now, I’m going to rape you and fill your tight womb with my filthy semen.

For a few seconds...

Myla remained completely still.

Then...

She started laughing.

A quiet laugh.

As if she had just heard a joke.

She reached for her waist.

Then pulled out two small glass vials.

She uncorked the first one.

Carefully poured a greenish liquid over the blade of one dagger.

Then repeated the process with the other.

A few drops fell onto the stone floor.

Tsss~~

A thin plume of white smoke immediately rose.

The stone began to darken.

Corrosive poison...

Mork only smiled even wider.

As if it meant absolutely nothing to him.

I took a deep breath.

Then cupped my hands around my mouth and shouted,

—Finish her already, Mork!

Several people nearby turned to look at me.

At that very moment...

A few meters below where I was sitting...

A towering, heavily muscular Black man stood up from the stands.

His shout was even louder than mine.

—DESTROY THAT JERK, MYLA!

He thrust both fists into the air.

His face completely flushed.

—I BET EVERYTHING ON YOU!
