As Yusuke and Pain faced off, numerous enemies suddenly appeared around Konoha. Besides Sunagakure ninjas, most were identical, white-skinned figures. Many summoned creatures also appeared, wreaking havoc.

These summoned creatures and White Zetsu were summoned by Akatsuki ninjas using summoning formations placed around Konoha before the attack. While Konoha’s Military Police and Anbu discovered and destroyed many formations, several still activated.

Immediately, Konoha’s defenses focused on the outer areas where battles erupted; the war between Konoha, Akatsuki, and Sunagakure had begun!

Seeing the smoke from the battles, Konoha’s genin refused to retreat with the civilians and organized to fight back. Their first target was Gaara, who had fully transformed into Shukaku and was using the ”Sleeping Technique,” leaving his body under Shukaku’s control.

Unlike in the original, Shukaku didn’t leave Gaara exposed; it submerged him in its sand-like body, preventing anyone from waking him.

Seeing Konoha’s eleven genin plus Yakumo Kurama, Shukaku shrieked, ”You pathetic fools think you can beat me, Shukaku? You’re delusional!”

Konoha’s genin showed no fear. Shukaku was smaller than usual, so its power and pressure were reduced. With Naruto, Sasuke, Yota, and Yakumo Kurama stronger than in the original, defeating Shukaku seemed possible.

Naruto and Yota exchanged glances, nodded, and began hand seals.

”Summoning Jutsu!”

They shouted simultaneously. A giant toad and a giant slug appeared beneath them. The toad, smoking a pipe and carrying a huge katana, was Gamabunta.

Naruto learned the Summoning Jutsu from Minato, while Yota learned it from Kabuto. Kabuto didn’t have a contract with Myōboku Mountain, but after learning Sage Mode there, Shizune saw him as a better representative than Tsunade. The slug then signed a summoning contract with Kabuto.

Due to Shukaku’s smaller size, Gamabunta and Yota’s summoned slug were larger.

Shukaku was shocked, staring at the two creatures taller than itself, speechless. The other Konoha genin were also surprised; they didn’t know Naruto and Yota had such powerful summoning jutsu.

”What?! They hid that from me!”

Sasuke was the most shocked and annoyed. He thought they were equals, and he considered himself the smartest. Now he knew he was the dumbest.

”I’ll get a strong summoning animal from Itachi!” Sasuke thought resentfully. Unfortunately, Itachi had Susanoo, so he didn’t have a strong summoning animal to give Sasuke; he only had cute ninja cats.

”Aren’t you Shukaku? You’re so small! Are you Shukaku’s illegitimate child? Call me Uncle Gamabunta!”

Gamabunta said, taking a puff of his pipe.

Shukaku, already furious, charged at Gamabunta. Gamabunta, equally aggressive, charged back, and the battle began.

Meanwhile, Akatsuki members emerged from the arena, trying to enter Konoha, but Itachi and Kakashi stopped them. They couldn’t let S-rank ninjas enter Konoha; the destruction would be unimaginable.

”Itachi Uchiha, Kakashi Hatake, it’s four against two. You have no chance,”

Sasori, who had fought Itachi and Kakashi in Wave Country, said calmly.

Kakuzu laughed, ”Itachi Uchiha, Konoha’s Military Police Vice-Director, and Kakashi, heir to the White Fang’s title. Your heads are valuable; I’ll make a fortune today!”

Seeing Kakuzu and Sasori so confident, Itachi said calmly, ”Numbers don’t matter. And things might not go as you expect.”

As Itachi finished, Pakura launched a surprise attack on Kisame.

”Scorch Release: Extremely Steaming Murder!”

Pakura created a red orb and slammed it into Kisame’s stomach. Kisame looked incredulous as his body shriveled from dehydration.

Pakura’s Scorch Style kekkei genkai rapidly evaporates water from the target, turning them into a mummy. It’s extremely deadly.

After attacking Kisame, Kakuzu and Sasori attacked Pakura, but she dodged easily.

Seeing Pakura with Itachi, Kakuzu and Sasori’s faces darkened. Pakura was a Konoha spy; the situation changed from four against two to two against three.

Surprisingly, Kisame, turned into a mummy, began to regain his form, fully recovering soon after.

”Whew, almost became a mummy! Pakura is formidable. But I, the Tailless Tailed Beast, can’t be defeated so easily,” Kisame said.
