A Ghost Story Unfolds: The Cannon Fodder Went Mad by Burning Ghost Money

Chapter 142 Angelina’s Tea Party 11The duration of the effect of the [Rigidity and Slowness Spray] was unknown, so Lin Xiangjun did not want to waste any more time on these Guests.

She took a photo, bypassed the Guests blocking the doorway, and glanced at the clock again as she passed through the living room.

It was exactly one o’clock in the afternoon.

According to the White Bow Tie Servant, Angelina would nap until two o’clock in the afternoon and then go to the study to read. Now was a good opportunity to explore the study.

If the White Bow Tie Servant hadn’t lied to her.

After leaving the tea room, on the way to the study, Lin Xiangjun encountered a few White Bow Tie Servants.

Unlike the Servants cleaning earlier, this group of Servants was carrying ingredients like eggs, milk, and cheese. The three of them were lined up in a long column, carrying the items with dull expressions as they walked toward the kitchen.

Lin Xiangjun stopped the Servant at the very end of the line.

This Servant was holding a basket of eggs and was shorter than the two in front. After being stopped by Lin Xiangjun, it bowed respectfully to her.

”Where are you taking these things?”

”To the kitchen. These are the ingredients needed for this afternoon’s tea.”

Lin Xiangjun puffed out her chest and held her head high, poking the eggs with a finger while looking critical: ”Were these just purchased today? They aren’t old, are they?”

”Guest, you are joking. The refreshments for the Lady’s tea party are famous for being fresh and delicious. Our pastry chef previously worked at the Duke’s mansion, and the ingredients are delivered by the nearest farmer every morning. There is absolutely nothing that isn’t fresh; you can rest assured.”

Lin Xiangjun continued to play the role of a picky and arrogant noblewoman. She was barely satisfied with the White Bow Tie Servant’s words, but she still kept her chin held high, striking a pose specifically meant to find fault:

”Very well. However, I saw some other Guests here who seem to have stayed behind after the last tea party ended. Will they be staying here indefinitely? Surely these ingredients aren’t enough to make afternoon tea for twenty-six people, right?”

The White Bow Tie Servant’s face, which had been dull, stiff, and wearing a professional fake smile, seemed to change for a split second. It looked like it wanted to make some kind of expression, but its facial muscles were being pulled by something unknown. In that instant, its expression twisted, carrying a hint of struggle and eeriness.

”Of... of course, of course, Madam, you don’t need to worry. These ingredients are for making... making afternoon tea for you and the other twelve ladies today. The ingredients are sufficient, you... you, well, you don’t need to worry.”

Its voice seemed to be stuttering, like a broken tape recorder.

As it spoke in jerks, the expression on its face also jerked, like a broken robot.

”Oh? And what about the thirteen Guests who haven’t left from the last time? Aren’t you preparing afternoon tea for them?”

”The last... the, the Guests who haven’t left from last time, Guests—we only, will, will provide, pro, pro, provide them with meals for one week—”

Its stuttering became more and more pronounced, and its head began to twist in uncontrollable jerks. As it spoke more, its head twisted more violently, and the expression on its face struggled strangely.

It was as if... as if the original face was struggling, trying to grow flesh and blood.

”In other words, starting today, the Guests who came last week will no longer receive any food?”

”Ye, ye, ye, yes—”

Lin Xiangjun’s expression turned serious.

She recalled the group of Guests who had blocked her in the dining room just a moment ago.

No one knew the situation of those Guests better than she did. Throwing her into the middle of those hungry Guests now would have a lower survival rate than throwing her directly into a lion’s den—the latter you could at least gamble that they were full and wouldn’t be hungry, while the former would only see her eyes light up and perform a live demonstration of human sashimi on the spot.

And excluding the one the Black Bow Tie Servant killed, there were still a staggering eleven such hungry Guests.

Moreover, these Guests had already come out of their rooms and started foraging.

There were actually a staggering eleven wandering starving ghosts roaming around this house. They were Guests, so the Servants would not restrict their movements; they could go anywhere.

The combat power of these Guests was average, and subduing them wasn’t too difficult, but the trouble was that once they discovered her, they would cause a huge commotion. This might attract the Black Bow Tie or White Bow Tie Servants, or worse, attract Angelina, which was certainly not good news.

There were eleven extra roaming alarms in the house.

While Lin Xiangjun was deep in thought, the face of the White Bow Tie Servant opposite her underwent a pitiful and terrifying change.

How should one describe this change... It was as if the original face and the surgically altered face were fighting. The original face was struggling to take over the account, while the altered face was using hyaluronic acid and prosthetics to desperately suppress it. As a result, this face became a warlord battlefield, divided and occupied—the corners of its mouth still maintained a stiff smile, but its eyeballs were frantically rolling in panic.

Its language system had also obviously collapsed.

”Guest, you, you—”

”Help! Help! Help—”

”Guest, do you have any other questions—”

”Save me, save—”

It was very strange; its normal speaking voice was clearly gender-neutral, but as the original face struggled to take over, the voice that came out was a trembling, extremely terrified female voice.

”Gue, Guest—”

”Help—”

Finally, the two voices and two faces seemed to cross some critical threshold at a certain moment, reaching a kind of eerie peace.

The stiff smile and trembling terror on its face shattered instantly. Along with its shaking voice, twisted eyebrows, and struggling, convulsing muscles, it suddenly exploded in front of Lin Xiangjun like an egg in a microwave!!

Lin Xiangjun closed her eyes instinctively.

A large amount of hot, viscous liquid and semi-solid matter splashed onto her face.

The liquid had a slight fishy and sour smell, but there was also an indescribable floral scent.

A piece of flesh happened to block one of Lin Xiangjun’s nostrils. When she breathed instinctively, the smell of that thing drilled into her nasal cavity with absolute clarity.

—It was the scent of camellia.

Lin Xiangjun opened her eyes and saw the Servant in front of her, whose entire head had exploded, leaving only an empty back of the skull. For the first time, she realized that sometimes, taking a deep breath was a luxury.

With flesh stuffed in her nostril and a bit of skin tissue stuck to her mouth, if she wanted to take a deep breath, she could only hope her eyes were meant for breathing.

Fortunately, she had wet wipes on her, and she was able to wipe her face clean. As for the stuff on her hair and clothes, she lowered her head and brushed them off casually.

Black, so it wasn’t obvious.

Although the Servant’s head had exploded, the good news was that it became calm again, like a television set that had been smacked a couple of times after suffering from screen static.

It bowed to Lin Xiangjun again, and the throat tube on its neck wriggled a few times. It seemed to have said something, but unfortunately, without a tongue, Lin Xiangjun couldn’t understand it.
