A Ghost Story Unfolds: The Cannon Fodder Went Mad by Burning Ghost Money

Chapter 138 Angelina’s Tea Party 6There were the safest White Bow Tie Servants so far; perhaps she could learn about the situation of the other Guests from those White Bow Tie Servants.

There were also the ”hour hand” and ”mirror” mentioned in the rules, which were clearly also objects that needed to be investigated.

She had only taken two steps when a White Bow Tie Servant carrying a tray walked towards her.

Seeing her, the White Bow Tie Servant stopped in place and bowed to greet her.

On the tray in his hands sat a pot of tea, a teacup, and two plates piled high with desserts—compared to the portion in the tea room just now, this plate of desserts was a super-sized version; it was completely the difference between a single kernel of corn and two roasted corn cobs.

”Who are you delivering so much food to?” Lin Xiangjun asked.

”It is for Mrs. Oufreite. She has come from afar, and there is still some time before the tea party begins, so we are sending her some food to tide her over.”

Tide her over?

This portion is just to tide her over? This portion would be enough for Liangzi to eat as a full meal!

Lin Xiangjun really wanted to praise this White Bow Tie Servant’s professional competence. Carrying food that reached almost to his collarbone, without his eyes blurring or hands shaking, he could still say the words ”tide her over” without changing his expression.

”I would like to ask, besides me, how many other Guests were invited to this tea party?”

”For every tea party, the Madam invites thirteen Guests. Besides you, there are twelve others; three have already arrived.”

Lin Xiangjun nodded thoughtfully: ”Then, including me, there are two Madams here in total? Where are they staying? Can you take me to visit them?”

However, unexpectedly, the White Bow Tie Servant shook his head.

”There are a total of nineteen Guests in the mansion now, all staying in their own rooms. The Madams have come from afar and are both tired and hungry, so they need to rest well. I am sorry, but I cannot take you to visit them. However, once the tea party begins, you will be able to see the Madams.”

Nineteen Guests?

”Didn’t you just say that only three people have arrived? What is going on with the extra thirteen people? Is there another gathering here?”

The White Bow Tie Servant bowed slightly again: ”No, Madam. The other Guests are those who did not leave after the last tea party—as you know, the Madam’s tea is always so captivating that Guests often stay behind.”

”However, there is no need to worry. They will not attend this tea party, nor will they leave their rooms, so they will not disturb you.”

...This is not a question of whether or not there is a need to worry.

The Guests who came to participate in this tea party have not been here long. Let alone something secretly absorbing their life force, even nuclear radiation wouldn’t take effect this quickly.

This can only be the previous batch of Guests.

Lin Xiangjun couldn’t help but glance at the tray in the White Bow Tie Servant’s hand again.

That food would soon disappear into some Guest room, only to be frantically stuffed into the mouths of those starving, emaciated Guests, like the woman in the bag, turning them into a terrifying sight where the entire body is skeletal, but the stomach protrudes grotesquely.

If Lin Xiangjun cannot successfully escape the instance, this will also be her fate.

The White Bow Tie Servant had to deliver the meal, so Lin Xiangjun headed to the living room area alone.

There were two or three Servants cleaning in the living room. It was close to the dining room and study, and with many decorations, there was more cleaning to be done. Therefore, after seeing Lin Xiangjun, the Servants only bowed briefly to greet her before continuing with their work.

With no one watching her, Lin Xiangjun was naturally more pleased.

There were many things placed in the living room: a fireplace, sofas, carpets, decorative deer and bear heads, and decorative bookshelves...

To say nothing else, just this living room completely matched everyone’s fantasy of the European classical aristocracy; magnificent and grand, it revealed luxury and comfort everywhere.

Lin Xiangjun’s gaze swept around the living room and landed on an oil painting hanging beside the fireplace.

This was not a traditional portrait. The scene was outdoors, with two people sitting on an ornate sofa. Angelina, wearing a long dress and a pearl necklace, sat on the left, and another woman whose face could not be seen sat on the right.

Behind them were large swathes of blooming camellias. The flowers were clustered together, already submerging the legs of the sofa and crawling up Angelina’s dress. The flowers rested on the dark green dress, as if Angelina herself had already been bound by the branches of the camellias, becoming part of the camellias.

It was a beautiful painting, but it revealed eeriness and oppression everywhere, making one feel somewhat breathless just looking at it.

Moreover, those bright pink camellias were too vivid, too eye-catching, as if the subject of this painting was not the two people sitting in the middle on the sofa, but those clustered camellias.

Especially the woman on the right whose face could not be seen; the clothes on her body were the same pink as the camellias. She held a book in both hands with her head bowed, as if she had fallen asleep while reading, silently letting the flowers submerge her.

”What P, what m... parasitism? What does that mean?”

Why is there an English translation segment?

Lin Xiangjun, who had only barely passed the College English Test Band 4, naturally could not understand this long, difficult word.

However, technology is developing, and humanity is progressing.

She took out her phone, tapped on the Forbidden APP, opened the translation module, took a photo, and translated it.

The translation module was something she had activated later. Lin Xiangjun had originally only activated five modules, but later she thought, since they were empty anyway, she might as well activate them all at once—what if she needed them later?

Parasitism, parasitism.

”Parasitism?”

What a strange book title.

As soon as this name appeared, Lin Xiangjun knew she had touched upon an important clue.

Parasitism is relying on a host and constantly absorbing the host’s nutrients to nourish oneself.

That thing that had been constantly absorbing her life force seemed to fit this definition, but she didn’t know if the host here was her, the Guests invited to the tea party, or... Angelina?

Besides this painting, the living room also had several porcelain and wooden ornaments, as well as a decorative bookshelf, where most of the books were very new and had not been flipped through much.

That book with the pink cover, ”Parasitism,” was prominently among them.

The book was placed in a relatively high position. Lin Xiangjun stood on tiptoes to take the book down, looked left and right to make sure no one was paying attention to her, and then opened the book.

To her surprise, ”Parasitism” was actually a collection of poems.

Most of the pages were pristine and white, and the side of the book was also very clean; it was obvious that it hadn’t been read much, except for one page that was strangely folded.

”The fragrant scent of the camellias tells of the end of spring”

”I cannot bear to let go of this spring”

”So, I quietly kept it”

”I hid it in the closet”

”I sealed it in a pottery jar”

”As long as I can see it, as long as I can smell it, as long as I can taste it”

”My spring will never end”
