A Ghost Story Unfolds: The Cannon Fodder Went Mad by Burning Ghost Money

Chapter 49 Who Am I? (48)Lin Xiangjun stood at the doorway, the Stair Ghost stood near the stairs, and Wang Min was squatting right between them, physically separating the two.

Needless to ask, if a fight broke out later, both sides would have to step over her body.

That wouldn’t do, would it?

As the old saying goes, when two nations are at war, they do not behead the envoy. There was no reason for her to lose her life here today.

She had to move to a different spot.

But the act of standing up would expose her weaknesses.

Wang Min thought for a moment about how she could move without standing up. After pondering for a long while, she finally made a decision that went against her ancestors!

She hugged her thighs, engaged her gluteus maximus, and amidst the ghost-seeing gazes of the Stair Ghost and Lin Xiangjun, she scooted along on her bottom, shifting herself behind Lin Xiangjun near the door.

It looked inexplicably familiar.

It was a bit like that lecherous little boy with the black pupils on the outside and white pupils on the inside who loved to take off his pants and run around with his bare bottom.

Lin Xiangjun: ”...”

Before entering the instance, no one had told her that the employees you recruited inside could be mentally challenged.

Nor had anyone told her that both employees might be mentally challenged.

The Stair Ghost’s ”Jie jie jie” weird laughter got stuck in his throat, like a chicken grabbed by the neck while screaming. He fell into an eerie silence, stiffened his neck, choked for a long time, and only then let out two more ”Jie jie” laughs.

However, the atmosphere was already gone; no matter how hard he tried, it was useless.

The Stair Ghost laughed twice, realized it was getting more awkward the more he laughed, and simply stopped laughing altogether.

”I know you must be curious about why I came to this instance, right?”

As he spoke, he shuffled backward bit by bit.

”This instance is low-level, and there’s nothing worth coming here specifically for. At the end of the day, that dismembered child is just a low-level Instance Master...”

”Who asked you? You talk so much.”

Lin Xiangjun impatiently raised her knife and charged forward.

What was he babbling about? Even if she copied it to Pinduoduo, there would be no response.

It was already very late. If they dawdled any longer, it would be seven o’clock, the time for the Eerie Parents to return home.

Dealing with the Eerie Parents would take quite a bit of time.

Lin Xiangjun was already tired and fed up with this instance.

She just wanted to resolve it as quickly as possible and then return to the real world to get some good rest.

She lunged at the Stair Ghost with her sharp knife without mercy.

The Stair Ghost was alarmed and hurriedly dodged to the side; the blade missed his body by a hair’s breadth.

Another handful of underworld currency fell to the ground.

This damn woman! The Stair Ghost gritted his teeth in anger. He had originally planned to use words to distract Lin Xiangjun, then turn and run once he retreated to a safe area.

Who knew she had absolutely no curiosity?

Aren’t you humans the ones who love gossip the most!

The Stair Ghost knew this trick wouldn’t work anymore and immediately stopped pretending. His body suddenly refined into individual copper coins, splitting perfectly down the middle like a spicy snack strip from elementary school.

However, to Lin Xiangjun, it looked more like an old, weak patient with kidney deficiency whose urine split into two streams.

And coincidentally, he was made of golden copper coins.

Ugh, disgusting.

The two split streams—one rushed upstairs, and the other turned a corner and sprayed toward Lin Xiangjun.

Lin Xiangjun shuddered, disgusted by her own train of thought.

”Trying to run again!” Lin Xiangjun reached into the pocket of her sportswear and slammed a white, glistening object onto the ground.

【A strand of Qin Jianyuan’s hair: A portion of the Instance Master’s power of rules, temporarily stored in the hair. After use, it can trap oneself and the target within a certain range. Pay attention to the target; don’t let this small space become an oversized urn for your ashes.】

After the white object hit the ground, it shattered. A layer of white mist, identical to the one around the seesaw, quickly generated within the stairwell, forming a barrier before the upward-moving stream of copper coins could reach the second floor.

The copper coins couldn’t dodge in time and slammed straight into the white mist, bouncing back from the impact.

This was something Lin Xiangjun had specifically asked Qin Jianyuan for, just to prevent the Stair Ghost from escaping. This white mist would last for ten minutes. If nothing went wrong, ten minutes would be enough for Lin Xiangjun to mince the Stair Ghost into bits.

Knowing the Stair Ghost’s main body couldn’t escape, Lin Xiangjun wasn’t in a rush to deal with him. She took her sharp knife and began to grapple with the separated part.

Just like a gecko’s tail would struggle desperately to protect its body, the clone fought Lin Xiangjun recklessly to protect the Stair Ghost’s main body.

Lin Xiangjun’s sharp knife had high attack power; every slash cut off a large chunk of flesh, and underworld currency fell around her with a clatter. She looked exactly like a money-printing machine.

But the Stair Ghost wasn’t a fool; it was impossible for him to stand there and wait to be hacked. The Stair Ghost’s body was made of streams of copper coins, incredibly agile, just like a handful of flowing sand.

In the end, Lin Xiangjun’s body wasn’t flexible enough. She missed nine out of ten slashes and was soon panting for breath.

But fortunately, she wasn’t injured.

You ask why the Stair Ghost didn’t attack her?

That was, of course, because Lin Xiangjun had not violated any rules at all.

Although the Stair Ghost was an outsider, his style of operation still had to follow the requirements of the Rules of Horror, such as not being able to harm players before they violated the rules.

The Stair Ghost was so angry he was jumping up and down.

”Don’t you have legs?! I’m right in front of you; if you just ran two steps, wouldn’t you have caught me!”

Lin Xiangjun wouldn’t run. She knew very well that as long as she didn’t run or jump, and kept her voice down, she wouldn’t violate the rules in the stairwell.

Without violating the rules, the Stair Ghost couldn’t lay a hand on her.

So what if she missed nine out of ten slashes? As long as the Stair Ghost and she were still in the same space, bit by bit, slash by slash, she would eventually grind him to death.

The Stair Ghost screamed, cursed, and begged for mercy; he used every trick he could.

”What kind of skill is it to kill me while I can’t attack you? Winning with such underhanded methods isn’t glorious at all. Do you dare to run two steps and fight me one-on-one!”

”Actually, I am the real Instance Master. I was just forced here by that ghost and couldn’t get out. He tampered with my identity; I am the real Qin Jianyuan! If you kill me, this instance will collapse!”

”I want to go home. My home is on the sixth floor. If my mom can’t see me, she will collapse...”

”...”

Crying, begging, and making things up were all useless. The Stair Ghost seemed to despair, and he suddenly said viciously: ”Do you think that if you kill me, Qin Jianyuan will let you leave alive?!”

Lin Xiangjun’s sharp knife paused for a moment before swinging down.

The Stair Ghost was reduced to a tiny clump. If one had to describe it... perhaps a fried egg in Luosifen? A golden clump, loosely containing a few copper coins inside; one more slash would send him to his doom.

”He’s just using you! Using you to kill me! After I die, he won’t give you the benefits he promised at all!”

”He will eat you!”

”You won’t be able to leave alive at all!”

Seeming to see Lin Xiangjun’s hesitation and a glimmer of hope for his own survival, the clump—now only the size of a fried egg—shouted in a tiny, sharp voice:

”You’d be better off trusting me than him!”
