A Ghost Story Unfolds: The Cannon Fodder Went Mad by Burning Ghost Money

Chapter 30 Who Am I 29Something is coming.

Lin Xiangjun quickly retreated to the entrance, her back against the door, and shone her Flashlight toward the stairs.

This Flashlight was still quite reliable; although it flickered as if its time was running out, it didn’t go out and continued to shine stubbornly.

Good job, Flashlight. Those 100 underworld currency were well spent.

With the Flashlight in her left hand and a sharp knife silently drawn in her right, Lin Xiangjun stared intently at the corner of the stairs in front of her.

She could feel that thing coming down the stairs.

This was her first time actively breaking a rule and provoking a supernatural entity, so she was inevitably a bit nervous.

The gemstone on the sharp knife pressed slightly into her hand. She spun the handle twice in her palm, gripped it tightly, and prepared for the impending crisis.

The rustling sound in the stairwell suddenly stalled for a moment.

Then, the rustling sound retreated at least twice as fast as it had come!

Lin Xiangjun: ???

Trying to run away?!

Humans are such creatures; if the opponent is fearless, you might weigh your own abilities, but once the opponent shows cowardice, your morale immediately skyrockets, as if you are invincible.

With the supernatural entity retreating like this, Lin Xiangjun was no longer nervous. She only had one thought in her mind:

Clues! The clue is running away!

She no longer leaned against the door preparing to fight and immediately chased after it.

However, in a place like a stairwell, any faster speed or larger steps would create a significant noise. She dared to break the stair rule because she had a hunch that breaking this rule likely wouldn’t lead to any real trouble.

But the neighborhood rules are different.

If she broke the neighborhood rules, the one coming to hunt her down wouldn’t be the sand supernatural entity from the stairwell, but Qin Jianyuan, who would be annoyed by her.

She was confident in taking down the sand supernatural entity and had some confidence in taking down Qin Jianyuan, but there was no need for that.

Qin Jianyuan was likely the Instance Master, and killing him would likely cause the instance to collapse.

Killing the Instance Master to make the instance collapse completely after solving the main mission was a bonus, but the problem was that she hadn’t found ”Who Am I” yet. If the instance collapsed before the mission was completed, she would just be waiting to stay in the instance until she died.

Therefore, although she was mentally reluctant to let go of this Stair Ghost that could be finished off with one more strike, Lin Xiangjun physically stopped honestly.

Well, it seems Patrick Star’s midnight snack is gone.

Lin Xiangjun turned around with some regret, walked to the position under her window, and sent a message to Wang Min.

The rope was lowered again. This time, Lin Xiangjun wasn’t as afraid; she wrapped the rope around her waist once and tied a knot.

Wang Min received the message, and the rope slowly ascended.

The curtains on the first and second floors were drawn tightly, and nothing could be seen.

On the third floor, Aunt Wang’s window still had a gap. Just as she was hiding under the quilt when Lin Xiangjun left, she was still hiding under the quilt now that she was returning; the curve of the quilt hadn’t even changed.

Firmly believing that ghosts won’t attack people under the quilt, huh?

That works too.

Lin Xiangjun continued to ascend slowly.

Hmm? Why is the window of 404 open?

Lin Xiangjun was startled by the figure standing in front of the window, and a gasp almost escaped her lips.

Zhuo Xing stood in front of the window with a gloomy face.

He watched Lin Xiangjun slowly ascending. His eyes already revealed a not-so-intense but impossible-to-ignore redness, his complexion was terrible, and he looked at her with resentment and unwillingness.

In this state, it was unknown what rule he had broken. Clearly, in the morning, he was just in low spirits and showed no signs of contamination at all.

Lin Xiangjun guessed that he most likely broke the most basic neighborhood rules.

Because his manic and twisted state... it didn’t look like mild contamination anymore. His state was much worse than Wang Zixuan’s, and Lin Xiangjun guessed that he was already at moderate contamination.

The contamination clearing potion in the mall requires three bottles to be completely cleared.

But no matter what your level of contamination is, scaring people is always wrong.

In the middle of the night, and in a supernatural instance, a figure standing in front of the window staring at you intently almost scared Lin Xiangjun’s heart out of her mouth.

Scaring people really can scare them to death!

Zhuo Xing breathed onto the window and then wrote a line of words. Since the two were facing each other, the order and orientation of the words were reversed. Lin Xiangjun identified them for a while before she could make out what Zhuo Xing had written:

”Share a copy of the clue you obtained tonight with me.”

Lin Xiangjun was so angry she laughed.

Just opening his mouth and holding out his hands to beg for food here?

Does he really think that besides the supernatural entities, anyone else considers him a threat?

Lin Xiangjun rolled her eyes without hesitation.

She didn’t know where he got the confidence to think that as long as he asked, Lin Xiangjun would give him the clue.

Lin Xiangjun didn’t want to deal with this madman and asked Wang Min to tell Patrick Star to hurry up and pull the rope up.

Seeing Lin Xiangjun roll her eyes, Zhuo Xing’s expression became even gloomier.

Just as Lin Xiangjun thought, he was currently at mild contamination. His ears were filled with sharp cat meowing. Under his clothes, where Lin Xiangjun couldn’t see, his stomach was scratched by those cats until it was a bloody mess, and several pieces of flesh had fallen off.

But why? He had clearly followed the rules! When that cat that looked like a monster appeared, he fed them the ham sausage he got from Wang Zixuan, a whole one, not too much, not too little.

Why did those cats attack him? Why? Why!

He knew he was going to die. His ears were already filled with completely incessant cat meowing. The bloody wound on his stomach was heating up in waves, but the feeling of pain was no longer so clear—this was not because the wound had healed, but because his sense of pain was fading, which was what he feared most.

He had read posts from people who had completed instances and come out, and he knew his current state was very dangerous.

There were people on the internet with a similar state to his, and he only found two pieces of information. One was someone who got contaminated while exploring the final clue. His consciousness was unclear at the time, but fortunately, he had already obtained all the clues and completed the mission, and the instance ended smoothly; such a state was cleared after leaving the instance.

The other was an oral account from someone else; the person in the same condition as him died not long after.

If he couldn’t finish the mission as soon as possible, Zhuo Xing knew that he would also die here.

Why?

He had worked so hard, clearly hadn’t broken any rules, so why was he the one to die?

Why could this woman, this woman survive, without even a bit of contamination?

How could she compare to his efforts, how could she compare to his understanding of the instance? She was treacherous, cunning, and cold-hearted. Even if only one person could survive in the instance, the one to survive should be him, Zhuo Xing!

And not this slacker who had no sense of tension in the instance and was just coasting the whole time!

He was unwilling!

He revealed a sinister smile and then opened the window violently without hesitation.

Only when he reached out to push the window did Lin Xiangjun see that he was holding a fruit knife in his hand.

When the window was opened, it made a violent ”creak” sound, which seemed particularly obvious and harsh in the quiet neighborhood.

He had gone mad!

Lin Xiangjun’s heart tightened. She almost instantly thought of what Zhuo Xing wanted to do—

He wanted to cut the rope and perish together with her!
