A Ghost Story Unfolds: The Cannon Fodder Went Mad by Burning Ghost Money

Chapter 20 Who Am I 19Wang Zixuan said, ”The most important person in this instance should be a child named Qin Jianyuan. He lives on the sixth floor and is our classmate.”

”The five of us players should all be Qin Jianyuan’s classmates. I don’t know where he lives, but I found something related to him at home.”

”My house has a pack of ham sausages. The instance setting is that I secretly took them from Qin Jianyuan’s schoolbag.”

At this point, Wang Zixuan stopped. He looked at Lin Xiangjun quietly, waiting for her to make a decision.

Lin Xiangjun still wore that same enthusiastic smile, showing eight teeth. Her expression didn’t change, so Wang Zixuan couldn’t tell what she thought of his information.

Was it worth it? Or not?

”This Young Scholar dares to ask Young Master, how did you learn that everyone’s information is different?”

Wang Zixuan said, ”I met Aunt Wang and Brother Xing tonight. I’m not sure about Brother Xing, but the clues Aunt Wang found at home are related to mine but not the same.”

”I think the instance definitely has a purpose for scattering every player. It just so happens there’s one unit with six floors, one player per floor. Like the layers of a bamboo shoot, I deduced that the clues should also progress layer by layer...”

Lin Xiangjun couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. Was this the level of reading comprehension of a high school student? He could associate so much just from one person per floor, and it actually sounded quite logical.

As expected, having knowledge is different; he thinks deeper than others.

”This Young Scholar...”

Wang Zixuan swallowed nervously.

”...is very satisfied with Young Master’s information.”

Wang Zixuan suddenly breathed a sigh of relief.

Lin Xiangjun placed an order for a small bottle of contamination clearing potion from the system mall. The item appeared out of thin air in her hand. Watching this amazing scene, Wang Zixuan let out a cry of surprise.

”This is...”

”This is the Forbidden APP. You can download it on your phone too.” Lin Xiangjun handed the item to him. ”The contamination on your body can be cleared as long as you order this kind of potion, provided you can afford the price.”

While she spoke, Wang Zixuan had already rapidly downloaded the software and found the same potion. ”This small bottle is a thousand? What kind of money does it use? WeChat, Alipay, or a bank card? Strange, why can’t I use any of them?”

”You expect the supernatural to use virtual currency?” Lin Xiangjun took back her phone. Seeing Wang Zixuan frantically fiddling with his phone, she spoke up to stop him. ”Stop messing around. Drink the potion first, then tell me the rest of the clues.”

Wang Zixuan also knew his thoughts were a bit naive, so he reluctantly put down his phone and carefully examined the blue potion, which was about the size of an eye-drop bottle.

The product page for the contamination clearing potion already stated that if the contamination wasn’t heavy, it could be used two, three, or even more times. Wang Zixuan assessed his own condition and decided to drink half a bottle first to test the waters.

An item costing a thousand underworld currency was indeed worth its price. Wang Zixuan only drank half a bottle, and the contamination characteristics on his body quickly faded. Aside from some dizziness and tinnitus, he felt the same as before entering the instance.

He cherished the remaining half bottle of potion and put it away. Only then did he smack his lips and start telling Lin Xiangjun about his clues.

Qin Jianyuan’s pack of ham sausages looked no different from ordinary ones. At first, Wang Zixuan didn’t take them seriously.

It wasn’t until he didn’t eat the food prepared by the supernatural entity and returned to his room that he quickly felt hungry.

He knew the instance was dangerous, and having no physical strength while hungry was very risky. After a bit of thought, he chose to open a ham sausage to eat.

The food made by the supernatural might be poisoned, but ham sausages? It’s impossible for something in plastic packaging to be poisoned, right? It would definitely be safer to eat.

Wang Zixuan, who didn’t yet know that the instance would contaminate players, thought optimistically.

However, after eating that one ham sausage, he soon regretted it.

His limbs became limp like noodles. He felt weak all over as if he had been running a fever for three days. After falling onto the bed, he couldn’t move at even a bit, as if he had been injected with anesthesia.

Yet his consciousness was very clear, as if he had drunk two kilograms of coffee, two cases of red wine, and chewed ten kilograms of tea leaves. He was incredibly awake and mentally hyperactive, wanting to go out and run ten laps to vent his energy.

He just kept his eyes open like that, physically powerless yet mentally hyperactive.

By then, even a fool would know there was something wrong with that ham sausage.

This situation lasted for about five hours.

At this point, Wang Zixuan paused slightly, checked Lin Xiangjun’s reaction, and then continued, ”This kind of drug probably isn’t easy for an elementary school kid to get. However, I’m not clear on how Qin Jianyuan obtained it.”

”The residential area rules say that if you encounter stray cats, you need to feed them ham sausages. I guess the ham sausages are the ones I have here.”

”There were originally five in this pack. There should be one for each person. I ate one, so there are four left.”

Wang Zixuan hesitated for a moment but still gave one ham sausage to Lin Xiangjun.

”You definitely want to go explore the park, right? The rules said cats would appear in the park. Take this. If you encounter a cat and don’t have a ham sausage, you might get contaminated too.”

Lin Xiangjun didn’t take it.

”Do you think the cats would want to eat this ham sausage?” she asked.

How could there be a question of ’wanting’ or not? Wang Zixuan’s brain hadn’t caught up yet. He clutched the ham sausage blankly, feeling that Lin Xiangjun’s words had a deeper meaning.

However, while he was thinking, Lin Xiangjun had already turned and left. This time she walked very fast, clearly not wanting to travel with him.

Argh, I hate people who speak in riddles the most! If you’ve said something, why can’t you just make it clear?

So annoying!

On the other side, Lin Xiangjun was in a good mood after obtaining more clues. She didn’t care that Wang Zixuan was scratching his head in frustration because of her habit of only telling half the story.

”Telling half and leaving half is so satisfying. I feel like a hidden master, pointing out the way with a flick of my finger. As for what my words mean, figure it out yourself! If you can’t, then it’s just fate.”

She already had a suspicion about this, and the ham sausage Wang Zixuan brought out only confirmed her guess.

Qin Jianyuan was abusing cats.

He used drugged ham sausages to stun the cats in the residential area and took them home to torture and kill them. The cats in the area should all be the vengeful spirits of the cats he killed. The rule about giving them ham sausages was also a hint.

After all, not all players have the spirit of Shennong testing a hundred herbs. Normally, a player would have to deduce that the ham sausages were drugged after seeing a cat that couldn’t move after eating one. Someone like Wang Zixuan... it was purely dumb luck.

Now the only doubt was the first half of the rules.

The rules specifically emphasized ’no bugs.’ Why? What role do bugs play in this?

Moreover, there isn’t necessarily a direct link between cat abuse and the disappearances, and the parts related to cats aren’t many. Her intuition told her that ’cat abuse’ was not the focus of this instance; the focus should still be on the ’disappearances.’

While Lin Xiangjun was thinking, she arrived at the Garden.

The Garden... what significance does it have?
