A Ghost Story Unfolds: The Cannon Fodder Went Mad by Burning Ghost Money

Chapter 48 Who Am I? 47The Stair Ghost was certain that it had caught the scent of a rich person.

And a super, invincible, rich person at that!

That mellow, lingering fragrance traveled a vast distance, crossed the boundary between the real world and the weird world, and landed precisely in the Stair Ghost’s nose.

At that moment, the Stair Ghost knew that if it could not devour this human and seize all her assets, it would never be happy for the rest of its life.

The Stair Ghost would not allow itself to be unhappy for the rest of its life.

It had to eat Lin Xiangjun.

To that end, it spared no cost to obtain the instance Lin Xiangjun was destined for in advance, entered it before she did, and delayed her entry time—

Yes, Lin Xiangjun did not know that she was among the first wave of people to enter the weird world after the weirdness descended at eight in the morning, but she had been arranged to be delayed, joining Wang Zixuan and his group who only entered the instance at two in the afternoon.

Because during this time, the Stair Ghost was making preparations and schemes.

It had originally planned to use this time to devour Qin Jianyuan and his pathetic little instance early, become the new Instance Master of this instance, and then trick Lin Xiangjun to her death as soon as she entered.

Who knew that the plan would fail right from the start.

Qin Jianyuan had hidden his body too well. After three full rounds, with all fifteen players in the instances dead, it had only managed to obtain the approximate location of Qin Jianyuan’s flesh.

In this instance specifically, that idiot died right at the start, and happened to have his two arms eaten by the security guard!

Qin Jianyuan had used Sun Tao’s body to replace his own flesh, and the Stair Ghost, which had finally figured out the approximate location of the flesh after three rounds of ambushes, completely lost the trail of Qin Jianyuan’s flesh.

Why not just devour Qin Jianyuan directly?

Because it was an outsider, its range of movement was very limited, just like how the security guard could only move around the security booth and its vicinity; the Stair Ghost could only move within the stairwell of this unit and couldn’t even leave through the door.

It had no choice but to change its plan on the fly, thinking it might as well just make a move on Lin Xiangjun; after all, she was a novice entering an instance for the first time, and being rich but inexperienced made her an easy target.

Then it got stabbed twice, and its already meager one-tenth of its strength was reduced by another nine-tenths.

The Stair Ghost, now with only one percent of its original strength: ...

What else was there to say? It had tried to pinch a soft persimmon only to find a nuclear bomb. Better to hide.

Once this round of the instance ended, it would sneak back to its own instance. As the saying goes, ’As long as the green hills remain, there’s no need to worry about firewood.’

The Stair Ghost was prepared to keep its tail tucked and act like a low-profile ghost for the remaining day and a half, but who knew that just at this moment, it suddenly smelled the scent of Qin Jianyuan’s flesh.

Its gaze turned greedy once again, and its plan was adjusted slightly.

Even if this was a trap, it could eat this piece of flesh to recover some strength... Besides that tough woman in the instance, wasn’t there another timid player?

One player was eaten by the security guard, one player was killed by the announcement, and the one who killed someone was eaten by the Cleaner... With two players left, it wouldn’t be excessive to eat one, would it?

After eating this flesh and then eating a player, its strength could recover by seventy or eighty percent. If it caught that rich, tough woman off guard, it might just be able to take her life, right?

The Stair Ghost, inexplicably optimistic about the future, thought of the bright future ahead, and its eyes turned red.

Anyway, the one holding the trap wasn’t that dangerous, tough woman...

A quick battle to resolve it!

When the Stair Ghost rushed down from upstairs, it didn’t forget to release ghost energy to close the unit door, preventing anyone from disturbing it while it was halfway through its meal.

It rushed impatiently straight toward Wang Min.

Wang Min was hunched over, curled into a ball. The Stair Ghost was rushing so eagerly that it didn’t see her face clearly, only vaguely noticing that her figure seemed somewhat familiar, as if it had seen her somewhere in the past two days—where was it?

A trace of vigilance faintly rose in its heart, but the sweet scent of the flesh stirred up a strong desire to feed, forcibly suppressing that negligible bit of vigilance. It did not slow down, continuing its dive, charging clearly toward the heart Wang Min was holding in her arms!

Just as it lunged onto Wang Min and reached out to seize the heart in her arms, a sharp flash of blade light struck directly at it!

”Ah!!!”

The Stair Ghost let out a miserable shriek. Its body shuddered, and the part that had been sliced off fell to the ground with a thud.

The dim, yellow light in the stairwell flickered on and off, like a classic scene from a low-budget horror movie.

”Finally found you.” Lin Xiangjun murmured.

That bastard had been hiding from her for three days!

It finally couldn’t resist the temptation and showed its face, huh!

This was the first time Lin Xiangjun had faced the Stair Ghost directly; after all, the last time she had violated the rules, she had kept her eyes closed the entire time. She carefully examined this ghost.

The Stair Ghost was a round ball from the front, but flat on its sides, with a square hole in the center of its body, looking a bit like a fried dough cake, or perhaps a copper coin.

Its body was made up of countless copper coins, packed very tightly. When it moved, they didn’t even collide, only emitting a faint rubbing sound—the exact ”rustling” sound Lin Xiangjun had heard on the first day.

However, just now Lin Xiangjun had slashed it, and a small gap had appeared in its round body, like a bagel with a piece sliced off.

Lin Xiangjun cast a casual glance at the part of its body that had fallen to the ground.

Then, her eyes widened sharply.

!!!

Its flesh was actually turning into underworld currency?!

The body first disintegrated into a pile of scattered copper coins, and then each coin turned into a note of underworld currency.

Lin Xiangjun excitedly took another look—although she wasn’t short on money, who wouldn’t be interested in a cash cow that could infinitely produce underworld currency, like a goose that laid golden eggs?—then she realized with some deflation that while those underworld currency notes looked numerous, they were all in one-dollar denominations.

This pile was probably only worth two or three hundred.

Lin Xiangjun was a bit disappointed.

So it was just a poor copper coin ghost.

However, the characteristics of an outsider were indeed very obvious, Lin Xiangjun thought. In this murder instance, the ghost’s golden, wealthy image didn’t quite fit the instance.

It was as out of place as a radiant, red-haired, spiky-headed basketball prince appearing in a busy, exhausted high school senior campus.

The Stair Ghost looked at the underworld currency on the ground with a pained heart.

The underworld currency inside its body was the embodiment of its power. Its original body, which had once blotted out the sky, had now shrunk to the size of a millstone. If it took another slash, let alone devouring Lin Xiangjun, whether it could even get out of the instance alive would be a question.

The Stair Ghost suddenly let out three ”hehehe” eerie laughs.

”Do you really think I am so stupid that I couldn’t see through such an obvious trap!”

Lin Xiangjun didn’t speak, just stared at it fixedly.

Wang Min had curled into a ball earlier to protect the heart, and now, even knowing Lin Xiangjun had arrived, she didn’t dare to let go, fearing that a sneak attack the moment she stood up might cause even the slightest mishap to the heart.

However, her current position was really awkward.
