After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 185: Chapter 185: Maybe It Can Be Realized

”They’re pretty resourceful, then.”

It looked like they had found another way to the shelter after all.

She turned to Sheila Rhodes and said,

”Don’t worry. I’ll definitely get you back safely.”

”Okay. Thank you.”

Sheila Rhodes nodded.

It was then that Nina Jacobs noticed Chase Gallagher wasn’t there.

”He went out with Holden Shaw. Said they were going to look around.”

Yvonne Willow was taking inventory of the supplies in her space.

They had discovered that even in the shelter, you had to acquire your own supplies.

Nina Jacobs nodded and gave the group a brief rundown of the situation at the shelter.

”You all can spend the next few days getting ready. We’ll be going to the base in a few days, and you’ll need points cards and Crystal Cores there, so you can go register for your cards first.”

”Got it. We can finally get a good night’s sleep tonight. And thank you for everything during this time, Nina Jacobs.”

Pascal Paige was still buzzing with excitement.

The feeling was no less than being snatched from the jaws of death. After all, she had walked step by step from a hellish place to get here.

”You’re welcome. Actually, there’s something I need your help with,” Nina Jacobs said.

She hadn’t mentioned this to anyone yet.

”Surgery?”

It was only then that Pascal Paige learned about Nina Jacobs’s mother.

What was even more shocking was that Nina Jacobs was going to have a little sister.

This was the apocalypse, after all. The only thing that lingered around them every day was death.

There was no new life.

And yet, Nina Jacobs’s mother was going to have a child at a time like this.

”Yes. Things that were medically impossible before... might be possible now. I want you to use your healing technique to heal my mom’s incision immediately after her surgery,” Nina Jacobs said.

’In my past life, a small number of new lives were also born a few years into the apocalypse. With the help of Advanced Healers and modern medicine, most expectant mothers who could afford it chose to have C-sections. After all, the incision could be healed right after the operation.’

Nina Jacobs had the system’s Healing Potions she could use on Vera Coleman.

But there were too many prying eyes.

If she had Pascal Paige’s healing technique as a cover, it would seem much more plausible.

”I’ll do it.”

Pascal Paige immediately felt the pressure.

This was Nina Jacobs’s mother; she couldn’t afford a single mistake.

The memory of her helplessness when trying to save Walsh made Pascal Paige extremely worried.

”Don’t worry too much. I’ll hire another Healer when the time comes,” Nina Jacobs said reassuringly.

「The next day.」

In the shelter’s medical bay, a new, unfamiliar Healer had appeared.

”My name is Pascal Paige. I’m a temporary Healer,” Pascal Paige introduced herself.

She had learned from Chase Gallagher that the shelter allowed Healing Element Superpower Users to earn extra money in the medical bay.

They were called temporary Healers.

The medical bay had too many injured people every day, and there weren’t enough Healers.

As long as you could heal the patients, you’d even receive Points from the base as a reward.

That was why she had come first thing in the morning.

She needed to use this time to strengthen her Healing Element Superpower in preparation for Nina Jacobs’s mother giving birth.

”Your name is fun! I’m Josie Joyce. We’ve been really short on Healers lately.”

Josie Joyce’s eyes were immediately drawn to Pascal Paige’s pink hair.

Just then, a commotion erupted outside the door.

Juliana Sinclair threw open the door and shouted, ”Josie! Get all the Healers over here! Someone’s been stabbed with a sharp weapon and is seriously injured!”

”Stabbed again? How many does that make?”

Josie Joyce didn’t have time to think, immediately rushing over with all the Healers.

Pascal Paige saw a woman who was a bloody mess, her head in particular showing multiple injuries from a blunt object.

Without a second thought, she quickly began treating the woman as Juliana Sinclair instructed...

「Meanwhile.」

Nina Jacobs was out killing zombies with Leo Hale, Wayne Warner, and Sherry Renner.

She was free today, which was the perfect opportunity to help them train their Superpowers.

This was also in response to a call to action from the new base.

The area they chose was around the main passage between the shelter and the new base.

They were in a desolate patch of woods by the roadside.

Leo Hale was testing the effects of his Superpower after absorbing the Mystic Ice Core.

Sherry Renner was doing the same; she discovered that her Ice Spikes were far deadlier than her Water Needles.

Nina Jacobs also found out that Chelsea Walsh had actually gotten into the new base’s Weapons Research Institute.

The Weapons Research Institute, as its name suggested, was the place where weapons were produced.

”She studied chemical engineering, so her major was a perfect fit. Plus, her Thunder Element Superpower is really convenient for demolitions, so my dad recommended her for the position,” Leo Hale said as he finished off a zombie.

It was basically a stable job for life, and Chelsea Walsh herself loved it.

”No wonder I haven’t seen her. So she’s already at the new base.”

Nina Jacobs was happy for Chelsea Walsh when she heard the news.

”Didn’t you make a lot of new friends? Aren’t they coming?”

Facing a Wood Element variant zombie, Leo Hale formed a Gold Blade and severed its Wood Element Vines.

Wayne Warner and Sherry Renner were also off to the side, each killing their own zombies.

Only Nina Jacobs stood by, instructing them.

”They need to get familiar with the environment first. Speaking of which, I ran into a Gold Element Superpower User a few days ago. He was a bit weak, but he had a pretty wide variety of Skills.”

Nina Jacobs described Frank Lucas’s Skills.

She also included the Sky-Filling Gold Needles from the Gold Element boy she had met before in Hawthorne Village.

”Brilliant! I’ll give it a try.”

Leo Hale’s expression lit up as he listened.

While guiding the two of them in their practice, Nina Jacobs also noticed that the traffic on the main road not far away seemed quite heavy.

”They say you can use Points to enter a lottery for dorm rooms. A lot of teams want to go draw for one early. Those people are probably all heading to the new base for the lottery,” Sherry Renner explained.

She already had an official position, so she was assigned a dorm, but Nina Jacobs had also told her she could live with her family.

”I see. So most of the people passing through here now are pretty powerful,” Nina Jacobs said thoughtfully.

...

「On a hot afternoon.」

On the main road to the new base, a dilapidated sheet-metal shack had appeared.

The shack looked like a newsstand that had been in use for a long time.

The reason it caught the attention of passersby was a piece of scrap cardboard hanging on it.

Two large words were scrawled crookedly on the cardboard: General Store.

”A general store? Who would sell things in a place like this? It’s probably a trap.”

In the apocalypse, human nature was complex, and passersby were extra vigilant.

After taking the three of them back to the shelter, Nina Jacobs had made an excuse to come out again.

She had thought setting up a roadside stall would be an instant hit.

But to her surprise, she waited and waited in the safe house disguised as a sheet-metal shack, but no one dared to come in.

She tried hanging up a handwritten price list.

Just like the two words ”General Store,” the items on the price list were also written with her left hand.

After waiting a little longer, someone finally came in.

”Are you really selling supplies here?”

The one who entered was a burly man, shirtless and holding a long saber, his face filled with suspicion.

But after seeing that there was only one woman inside the shack, he lowered his guard a little.

”I am. Trading for Crystal Cores. What do you need?”

Nina Jacobs, wearing Claire Warner’s face, wasn’t the least bit worried about being recognized.

The burly man then walked to the doorway and said to the people outside,

”Looks safe. Come on in.”

”You know, it’s actually pretty cool in here.”

Another man came in and looked over the shack’s interior.

Inside the sheet-metal shack were only two or three tables and a few stools.

A woman with gentle features was sitting at one of the tables. She appeared to be the owner of this little store.
