”Double Enhancement” supports ”Double Reduction”

The advancement rate of Middle Vocational Students will be further increased

A teacher with many years of experience in vocational education told a Red Star News reporter that currently, there are three main types of advancement channels for middle vocational students. The first type is advancing to a junior college through the 3+2 five-year consistent system, which means 3 years in middle vocational school and 2 years in junior college. The second type is participating in a separate college entrance examination specifically for matching junior colleges. The third type is taking part in the Sichuan Province’s targeted vocational teacher recruitment examination, which is currently the only way for middle vocational students to enter undergraduate programs, and also the most difficult path.

However, such a situation may improve in Chengdu in the future.

On August 6 this year, the Chengdu Education Bureau initiated the ”Double Reduction” pilot governance work for off-campus training institutions to further consolidate the achievements of the city’s special rectification actions against these institutions and also launched a special rectification action ”retrospective reflection”.

Apart from implementing the ”Double Reduction”, Chengdu’s governance on training institutions’ ”retrospective reflection” has been strengthened, and the ”Double Enhancement Project” was also proposed. This project announced further improvement of the high school entrance rate for junior high school graduates and significantly increased the advancement rate of middle vocational students to higher institutions.

”In this way, the opportunities for middle vocational students to enter higher institutions will greatly increase in the future.” said Xiong Bingqi, the dean of the 21st Century Education Research Institute. On one hand, improving the advancement rate in vocational education can boost its attractiveness, but at the same time, vocational education should not be treated as ”bottom-level education”. When vocational education is considered a tier below ordinary education, it becomes the ”bottom-level education” for all education stages; during the high school education stage, middle vocational education is the ”bottom-level education”; during the higher education stage, higher vocational education is the ”bottom-level education”.

In Xiong Bingqi’s view, having the ”bottom-level education” positioning also means that the important duty of vocational education is to ensure these students have access to education and a place to go, and to manage them properly. To solve this issue, it’s not only necessary to improve the advancement rate but also to practically address the problem of vocational education being viewed as inferior, fundamentally ensuring vocational education and ordinary education are on equal footing.

Middle Vocational Students need a broader path for success

Moreover, the attractiveness of vocational education needs to be enhanced

Xiong Bingqi believes that although various governmental levels are constantly releasing favorable policies to broaden the paths to success for middle vocational students, overall, parents still view vocational education with prejudice, associating it with underperforming students. Therefore, the urgent task is to change society’s perception and positioning of vocational education, enhancing its quality and attractiveness.

He stated that middle vocational students are not actually underperforming students. The reason they are labeled as such, firstly, is due to a single evaluation system using test scores, and ranks from the middle and high school entrance exams, where students who don’t excel in language, math, and English but have other skills are naturally seen as underperforming students. Secondly, schoolteachers are unwilling to invest energy in nurturing their skills and talents as it doesn’t benefit advancement, leading students who could become highly skilled talent to lack self-recognition, making it difficult for them to set high standards for themselves.

How can this situation be changed? Xiong Bingqi suggests that more government investment is needed to ensure that skilled and academic talent have equal social status and welfare benefits, and to hasten the construction of dual-teacher systems, curricula, and internship training bases in vocational schools, ensuring vocational education offers good prospects for advancement as well as respectable employment environments. ”Only in this way will the road to success for middle vocational students become wider and wider.”

Xinhua News Agency London, October 9th (Reporter Zhang Wei) - The Denmark Team achieved a complete victory with a 4-0 win against the Moldova Team on the 9th in the 2022 Qatar World Cup European qualifiers, securing their seventh consecutive win and needing just one more victory to advance. The England Team swept the Andorra Team with a 5-0 win, remaining undefeated with six wins and one draw.

In Group F, where the Denmark Team leads with an all-win record, they played the Moldova Team away from home. The vast difference in strength made the match one-sided. The Denmark Team made 21 attempts at goal with 10 within the frame, whereas the Moldova Team had not a single shot opportunity.

In the 23rd minute, forward Olsen broke the deadlock for the visiting team. Ten minutes later, a handball by the home team in the penalty area led to a spot kick, smoothly converted by Denmark’s captain Kjaer. In the 38th minute, Brentford’s midfielder Norgaard, a player in the Premier League, scored another goal. Just before the end of the first half, Serie A’s Atlanta defender Mele added one more goal. The Denmark Team had already scored 4 goals by halftime.

The Denmark Team is the only team in the European zone qualifiers to remain undefeated, and their record of seven consecutive wins means they can advance early with a win over the Austria Team next week.

The Scotland Team’s home match against the Israel Team saw them twice falling behind but also twice equalizing, eventually securing a 3-2 win courtesy of Manchester United midfielder McTominay’s stoppage-time goal, placing them temporarily second in Group F with 14 points.

On the same day, despite several key players from the European Championship sitting on the bench, the ”Three Lions” England Team still swept the Andorra Team with a 5-0 win, showing no suspense. Chelsea’s defender Chilwell opened the scoring, and Manchester City newcomer Grealish finished, with England’s ball possession exceeding 85%.

Thus, England continues to lead Group I with a 4-point advantage. Although the Poland Team, also in the same group, achieved a 5-0 victory over the San Marino Team, they remain temporarily third due to a 1-point deficit. The Albania Team, with a 1-0 away win over the Hungary Team, ranks second with 15 points.

Additionally, the Serbia Team defeated the Luxembourg Team 1-0, leading Group A by 1 point ahead of Portugal after playing one more game. The Switzerland Team sent off the Northern Ireland Team with a 2-0 victory, now trailing the Group C leaders, the Italy Team, by 3 points having played one less game.
