The Frail Guide Who Devoured an Entire Pollution Zone

Chapter 146: Chapter 146: Blame Falls from the Sky

Both Xu Qingsui and Shen Yan’s eyes widened.

Even at this stage, the Mutant could still fight back!

For a moment, their minds were racing, unable to calm down.

Since this was Xu Qingsui’s first time observing a drug experiment, she couldn’t judge it from a pharmaceutical perspective. All she could think was that this Mutant was no simple matter.

But a Mutant that could even shrug off the weapon Shen Yan produced had to be far more than just ”not simple.”

’But how did they manage to capture such a powerful Mutant and turn it into a test subject in the first place?’

Shen Yan stared at the Mutant, his mind a turbulent sea. They had conducted drug trials many times before.

Based on previous results, the drug typically produced different reactions in different Mutants.

There had been instances where test subjects went berserk after being injected with the agent.

But in those cases, he had easily resolved the situation with a lethal drug injection or a physical kill shot.

This was the first time he had encountered such a troublesome situation.

If the previous situations were merely variations due to differences in the test subjects’ receptors...

...then for this situation, he couldn’t give a definite answer.

’First, we need to deal with this rampaging Mutant. Then we’ll have to collect samples to figure out what exactly happened.’

The Mutant looked at the gash on its body, then immediately raised its arms again, preparing to pounce on Shen Yan.

But just as it raised its arms, its movements suddenly halted, and its entire body went rigid.

Streams of foul-smelling liquid began to ooze from the wound left by the Sword Qi.

A few breaths later, the massive body that had just been so menacing crashed to the ground, lifeless.

The sudden outcome left both Xu Qingsui and Shen Yan momentarily stunned.

Only after confirming the Mutant was down for good did Shen Yan let out a sigh of relief and put away his longsword.

But just as he sheathed the sword, the red aura lingering on it drilled back into his body.

As this aura surged into him, the volatile factors within Shen Yan’s body instantly flared up. The red markings on his arms erupted, spreading directly to his neck.

’This is bad!’

Seeing the change in Shen Yan, Xu Qingsui cried out in alarm and rushed out of the room.

But upon leaving the room, she realized she didn’t know where the entrances to those other rooms were!

Frustrated, Xu Qingsui noticed several Sentinels gathered at the end of the corridor. An idea struck her, and she hurried over.

”Which room is Shen Yan in?”

The men heard her approaching footsteps, but before they could speak, Xu Qingsui shouted her question.

Her urgent tone stunned the Sentinels, who subconsciously pointed to a nearby door.

Without breaking stride, Xu Qingsui charged directly into the room.

Inside, Shen Yan had already zoned out, on the verge of a berserk eruption.

Xu Qingsui didn’t dare to delay. She strode forward and cupped Shen Yan’s head in her hands.

”It’s over. It’s okay. You can relax now. Don’t think about anything. You are Shen Yan, the head of this lab.”

Xu Qingsui murmured in Shen Yan’s ear, simultaneously infusing his brain with her spirit body to soothe the turmoil within him.

A voice full of Magic Power entered Shen Yan’s ears. Although he couldn’t make out the words, the sound of it gradually calmed his mind.

After the soothing was over, Shen Yan’s body felt much lighter.

As his focus slowly returned, he became aware of a soft, fragrant figure in front of him.

Shen Yan slowly opened his eyes, and the figure of Xu Qingsui filled his vision.

A sudden, inexplicable impulse drove him to reach out and pull Xu Qingsui into his arms.

The unexpected hug startled Xu Qingsui as well, but remembering she still needed to comfort Shen Yan, she didn’t pull away.

Gradually, the heat radiating from Shen Yan’s body subsided. He leaned against Xu Qingsui with his eyes closed, indulging himself in the scent of her neck.

[Congratulations to the host for successfully soothing SSS level sentinel Shen Yan. You have gained 20% Favorability and 20% Dependence.]

The Golden Octopus announced the successful soothing, but Shen Yan showed no signs of getting up.

Xu Qingsui wondered if she should wake him.

”What do you two think you’re doing!” A sharp voice rang out from behind Xu Qingsui.

Hearing the voice, Shen Yan finally released Xu Qingsui.

They both turned toward the source of the sound to see Liang Xiaoxiao staring at them, her eyes red.

Hatred glinted in her eyes, making her look like a wife who had just caught her husband cheating.

Xu Qingsui frowned. She hadn’t wanted to get involved in this mess in the first place, and she certainly didn’t want to be caught in a situation that would be impossible to explain.

”I was just soothing him, don’t get the wrong idea! If you have something to discuss, talk it over yourselves.”

Her task was complete, so Xu Qingsui didn’t want to say any more. After speaking, she prepared to make a quick exit.

But just as she took a step, a strong hand grabbed her.

Xu Qingsui looked at Shen Yan, confused. She saw him looking at Liang Xiaoxiao and saying seriously, ”Liang Xiaoxiao, please watch your words and actions. Guide Xu just helped me; there’s no reason for her to be subjected to your interrogation.”

”Also, I have already made myself very clear. From now on, please refrain from doing or saying things that could cause misunderstandings.”

Tears were already welling up in Liang Xiaoxiao’s eyes, but after hearing Shen Yan’s words, they began to stream down her face.

’Getting caught in the middle of this as an outsider is really awkward.’

Dark lines shadowed Xu Qingsui’s face. She immediately wanted to shake off Shen Yan’s hand and flee the scene.

But as she struggled, Shen Yan only held on tighter.

As Xu Qingsui shot him a questioning look, he said in a low voice, ”Just help me out. Some things need to be brought to a definitive end, or it will only cause Xiao Xiao more pain.”

Xu Qingsui’s expression froze on her face. ’He doesn’t want to hurt Liang Xiaoxiao, but what about dragging me into this? Won’t that hurt me?’

Although she felt a pang of sympathy for Liang Xiaoxiao, that was the extent of it. She was no saint and had no desire to sacrifice herself for someone else’s sake.

’Especially since Liang Xiaoxiao is so stubborn. If she can’t get over this, she’ll just come after me later.’

’Then I’ll really be a case of ”sitting at home while trouble falls from the sky.”’

She really didn’t want to take the fall for this, so she struggled again, trying to pull her hand free.

But Shen Yan, looking at her, had clearly made up his mind. He matched her increasing force with his own, preventing her from escaping without hurting her.

”Guide Xu, I know what you’re worried about. But surely you don’t think that even if you stay out of it, Xiao Xiao won’t see you as a rival?”

”She’s already fixated on you now. Even if you do nothing, she will continue to target you.”

”Rather than being targeted for no reason, it’s better to cooperate with me. That way, if she does something nasty, you can retaliate. Settle any scores on the spot.”
