The Frail Guide Who Devoured an Entire Pollution Zone

Chapter 121: Chapter 121: Caught in the Trap

Xu Qingsui’s tone left no room for refusal.

Having known her for so long, Lu Jingyu was familiar with Xu Qingsui’s temperament. Once she made up her mind about something, no one could change it.

Wasting no more words, Xu Qingsui immediately followed Lu Jingyu toward the sea.

As the two of them were about to enter the deep sea, everyone fell quiet, watching them in silence, their hearts in their throats.

Floating at the surface, Lu Jingyu and Xu Qingsui exchanged a look.

”We have to watch the time. We must be back within the hour.”

Xu Qingsui acknowledged, then followed Lu Jingyu as they dove one after another into the deep sea.

The words of Fang Yuan and the other two from earlier still echoed in their minds, impossible to shake off.

Fang Yuan’s group had made themselves perfectly clear, but Lu Jingyu still couldn’t comprehend it. He had to see it with his own eyes.

As they dove deeper, blurry shadows began to appear in their vision.

As they drew closer, the blurry figures gradually sharpened, and they could start to make out a scene.

The slow reveal was incredibly frustrating for Lu Jingyu.

He immediately put on a burst of speed and swam directly into the deep.

Xu Qingsui didn’t dare to linger, staying close behind him.

After two or three minutes, the two of them finally reached the seabed. The blurry figures were now clear, and as they looked at the scene before them, their reaction was much the same as the three before them.

Xu Qingsui felt as if she had returned to the first time she came to Zone 9.

The dilapidated tin sign at the entrance was still stuck in the ground at an angle.

The streets were empty of people, just like when Xu Qingsui first arrived in Zone 9.

After they both took a moment to recover, Xu Qingsui spoke up. ”Looks like we also need to remind ourselves that this is just an illusion.”

Lu Jingyu gave a bitter laugh. ”I originally thought the three of them were exaggerating. It seems I was too shortsighted.”

”It seems the situation here is even more complicated than I initially thought. You have to stick close to me to avoid any accidents.”

Xu Qingsui nodded, understanding that Lu Jingyu intended to explore this deep-sea Zone 9.

Of course, she wouldn’t refuse. Right now, she was also very curious about what secrets this Zone 9 was hiding.

Lu Jingyu immediately checked his watch again, confirmed the time with Xu Qingsui, and after making sure it was correct, he set a countdown timer.

Factoring in the time it took to get down and the time it would take to return, Lu Jingyu gave himself forty minutes.

They would now use these forty minutes to explore this Zone 9.

With all preparations complete, Lu Jingyu glanced at Xu Qingsui, ready to enter Zone 9.

But just as the two were about to move, Chen Yunfei’s voice suddenly sounded from behind them.

”Brother Lu, Guide Xu, how are you two so fast? I can barely keep up.”

Hearing Chen Yunfei’s voice, both of them froze. They immediately turned to look and saw Chen Yunfei in the distance, leading several team members and swimming toward them.

Lu Jingyu’s expression changed drastically. ’What is going on? Didn’t I tell them to wait up top?’

’Is it because I was asleep for three years? Has Yun Fei forgotten how to follow orders?’

A flicker of doubt crossed Lu Jingyu’s mind, but he immediately dismissed it.

Although Chen Yunfei was young, he had always been someone who understood the bigger picture. There had to be a reason he came down.

Because Chen Yunfei had come down with his team members, Lu Jingyu had no choice but to put his plan on hold.

Watching Chen Yunfei swim over with his group, he couldn’t help but shout, ”Yun Fei, why did you come down? Didn’t I tell you to stay up there?”

”Brother Lu, weren’t you the one who told us to follow you? Shortly after you left, you popped your head back up and told me to bring a few people to follow you. We all saw it; we can all testify.”

As Chen Yunfei spoke, the team members behind him began to chime in in agreement.

With a dark expression, Lu Jingyu exchanged a grim look with Xu Qingsui.

He and Xu Qingsui had plunged straight down without even looking back.

And Chen Yunfei had no reason to lie to him, especially with so many witnesses.

So, it all pointed to one conclusion: after they had left, something had impersonated him and lured Chen Yunfei and his men down.

The thought that something dared to impersonate him made Lu Jingyu’s face as black as ink.

He decided then and there that once he found that thing, he wouldn’t let it off easy.

But for now, Chen Yunfei was already here with his men. It wasn’t realistic to have them turn back just like that, so Lu Jingyu decided to let them explore the area together.

Just as Chen Yunfei and his men swam up to him, Lu Jingyu was about to speak, but Chen Yunfei’s gaze was vacant as he swam right past him, heading straight for Zone 9.

Lu Jingyu’s expression faltered. He quickly shouted, ”Yun Fei, what are you doing?”

”Brother Lu, slow down! We can’t keep up!”

Chen Yunfei responded to Lu Jingyu, but his words sent a jolt of alarm through Lu Jingyu’s heart.

’I’m standing right here, so who is the ’Brother Lu’ Chen Yunfei is talking about?’

’Could it be that the thing that lured them down is right here, and I just can’t see it?’

At this thought, Lu Jingyu quickly looked toward Xu Qingsui, hoping she could detect something.

Xu Qingsui’s expression was grave. She had also guessed what was happening. ’But why can’t I see anything either?’

Watching Chen Yunfei’s behavior, Xu Qingsui understood that their minds had been affected.

She immediately released her Spiritual Power to sense if there was any danger around them.

As her spiritual power spread out in front of Chen Yunfei, a sudden energy wave pulsed.

Immediately, the light of clarity returned to the eyes of Chen Yunfei and the others.

After the group got a clear look at their surroundings, they were baffled and confused, not understanding how they had gotten there.

Chen Yunfei’s gaze fell upon Lu Jingyu, and he quickly asked, ”Brother Lu, what happened?”

Lu Jingyu hadn’t figured out the situation either, but he had just felt the fluctuation of spiritual power, so he quickly looked at Xu Qingsui.

”You were likely hit by a Spiritual Attack from some kind of Mutant, which caused you to hallucinate and follow us here.”

”Just now, my spiritual power broke the Mutant’s Spiritual Attack, which is why you snapped out of it.”

Hearing this, everyone’s expression changed drastically.

None of them could remember encountering any Mutant, yet they had somehow ended up here in a daze.

They dared not imagine how powerful the Mutant that had attacked them must be.

”Brother Lu, it seems I underestimated the enemy. To think that even I fell for it,” Chen Yunfei said, his face full of guilt.

”Don’t blame yourself. The same thing might have happened to me. But now that we know there’s a powerful enemy, we have to be on high alert from now on.”

Chen Yunfei nodded repeatedly. Only then did he notice the Zone 9 before him.

A flash of surprise crossed his eyes, but he suppressed the shock in his heart.

”I should head back first! I’m worried the team members up top have been targeted too.”
