The Frail Guide Who Devoured an Entire Pollution Zone

Chapter 136: Chapter 136: Blood Rain

With no targets left around the shadowy figure, Xu Qingsui’s group became the new bullseye.

The shadow spun in mid-air and shot straight toward Xu Qingsui.

Xu Qingsui’s brow furrowed. So many Mutants and Sentinels had already been sacrificed, yet she hadn’t even gotten a clear look at the attacker.

Realizing the newcomer meant harm, Xu Qingsui took a few steps back, preparing to retreat to the camper.

But then she remembered her second bonded partner was still beside her and hesitated, wondering if she should call him into the vehicle with her.

The camper had limited space, though, and he had so many guards with him. An invitation would be a polite gesture, but...

if they all tried to get in, there definitely wouldn’t be enough room.

The camper door wouldn’t even close, let alone offer them any safety.

Just as she was wrestling with her indecision, the man waved his hand. Only two of his guards remained by his side; the rest charged toward the shadow.

Even now, after witnessing such a bloody scene, the man still wore a faint smile, showing no sign of discomfort.

Xu Qingsui frowned. The man’s emotional stability was terrifyingly stable.

She didn’t even know those Sentinels, but seeing what just happened had made her heart lurch, and she felt a pang of regret for them.

But this man was clearly their leader, yet he showed no emotion at all. He was simply too cold-blooded.

Perhaps sensing Xu Qingsui’s gaze, the man looked at her again.

As if he knew what she was thinking, the man said, ”We live in a world full of crises. Every member of the team is prepared to make a sacrifice when they go out on a mission. Everyone has long since become indifferent to death.”

”However, as their leader, I won’t let my team members sacrifice themselves for nothing. I will avenge them, and I will provide their families with the best possible support to help them move on from the pain of losing a loved one as quickly as possible.”

Xu Qingsui couldn’t refute the man’s words. After all, she didn’t know his team. Perhaps this was truly the result of them growing accustomed to facing death.

She didn’t reply. The man extended a hand. ”Hello, my name is Shen Yan. It must be fate that we’ve met here. If your destination is the 27th District, perhaps we could travel together. I can be your guide.”

Although she still felt a little uncomfortable with Shen Yan’s behavior, she didn’t refuse, remembering he was her bonded partner.

’A bonded partner matched by the system shouldn’t be too bad,’ she reasoned. ’I have to interact with him anyway, so I’ll just observe him for now.’

’At the very least, I’ll finish my mission first. If Shen Yan really is a cold-blooded, unreasonable person, I can just cut contact after the mission is over.’

Having made up her mind, Xu Qingsui extended her own hand and shook his, introducing herself, ”Xu Qingsui!”

Shen Yan smiled and nodded. Just as he was about to speak again, the sounds of fighting erupted in the distance.

The figure was so fast that it still hadn’t revealed its true form.

The B level Sentinels didn’t dare to be complacent. As they rushed forward, they all drew their weapons and aimed at the shadow.

They moved as if they had rehearsed this long ago. The two Sentinels at the very front suddenly dodged to the side.

Then, several Sentinels catching up from behind simultaneously drew pistols, crossbows, and other ranged weapons, unleashing a coordinated attack on the shadow.

After the volley, they quickly retreated, and the two Sentinels who had dodged aside immediately moved to block the front again.

They raised their shields and other defensive gear, bracing themselves.

THUD! THUD! THUD!...

Following a series of whistling sounds, a variety of weapons struck the shadow at the same time.

It seemed the saying was true: even a hero is no match for a hundred hands. After facing the dense barrage of attacks, the previously untouchable shadow finally faltered.

As the figure paused in mid-air, Xu Qingsui finally got a clear look at its true face.

It was a black-furred, monkey-like Mutant.

Unlike the massive Mutants she had seen before.

This Mutant wasn’t even half the size of the one it had just torn to shreds.

It had the body of a normal monkey, with two sharp ears pointing up from the top of its head. Its eyes were completely white, bulging from their sockets as if they were about to burst.

It snarled, its mouth splitting its face all the way to its cheeks, revealing upper and lower rows of sharp, serrated teeth.

Its two rows of teeth were blood-red, though it was unclear if it was from its recent meal or from splattered blood.

Its two arms hung almost to the ground, but this didn’t affect its agility.

Its claws were all lethally sharp, some of their tips still dangling with shredded flesh.

Right now, there were several bloody holes in the Mutant’s body, gushing blood.

’That must be the handiwork of those B level Sentinels just now.’

Seeing the Mutant had revealed its true form, the men charged forward again, preparing to repeat their previous tactic.

But just as they made their move, the Mutant moved too.

This time, however, the Mutant was even faster. A flickering afterimage spun a few times in the air, completely disorienting several of the Sentinels.

As they struggled to reform their ranks, a pair of sharp claws pierced through the two Sentinels responsible for defense.

Pausing for a fraction of a second, the Mutant’s claws scrabbled inside their bodies before ripping out a handful of flesh and organs.

It then stuffed what it had torn from the Sentinels’ bodies into the bloody holes on its own.

At the same time, it flung the two corpses at the Sentinels behind them who were in charge of attack.

Seeing their comrades die so horribly, the other Sentinels in the squad were understandably agitated.

But as they moved to catch their comrades’ bodies, the Mutant flickered and reappeared behind them.

Its blood-red claws aimed for the backs of two of them, about to tear down.

Watching this scene, Xu Qingsui felt a wave of intense nausea.

’Compared to this thing, the Mutants I’ve encountered before were practically gentle.’

She had seen enough gore for one day. Seeing that these two Sentinels were also about to die, Xu Qingsui prepared to close her eyes.

Just then, another figure flew out from beside her. At first, she thought it was one of the guards left to protect Shen Yan.

But then, Shen Yan’s figure appeared in her line of sight.

Seeing this, Xu Qingsui kept her eyes fixed on the mid-air battle.

Shen Yan had finally made his move. ’As an SSS level sentinel, he shouldn’t be too shabby.’

But thinking of all the people who had already died, Xu Qingsui couldn’t help but feel some resentment toward him.

’He clearly has the strength, so why did he let others throw their lives away?’

’People are already dead and the situation is out of control. For him to act only now... doesn’t that mean all those who were sacrificed died for nothing?’

Comparing Shen Yan’s methods to Lu Jingyu’s, Xu Qingsui found herself starting to miss Lu Jingyu.
