My Werewolf System

Chapter 1794  The Red String

The heavy concrete debris spread out, shifting and settling under its own immense, crushing weight. The very moment Midwak stood up from the epicenter of the crater he had created, Rowa miraculously managed to slip out from the suffocating ruins.

He continuously coughed, sputtering aggressively as thick specks of dark blood sprayed out from his pale lips, staining the gray dust covering his clothes. Almost half of his ribcage had been completely destroyed by the beastʼs blunt, overwhelming impact. The excruciating pain was blinding, a sharp agony that would have sent any mortal warrior into immediate, fatal shock.

The jagged, splintered bones were dangerously close to piercing his ancient heart and lungs, and he wasnʼt even entirely sure if his resilient vampiric body would be able to physically survive the catastrophic trauma if it wasnʼt for the unique ability he possessed.

He quickly focused his fading consciousness and engaged his ability, bringing his ruined body right back into pristine shape. The shattered bones seamlessly rewound, the torn flesh knitted back together in a matter of seconds, and his breathing stabilized. But even as he stood back up, wiping the remaining blood from his chin, he knew things were drastically different now.

Rowa now knew with absolute certainty that this duel wasnʼt going to be easy or quick. The Hawaiian-shirt-wearing Werewolf that he was currently facing possessed a body that was as sturdy and impenetrable as any of the monsters he had ever gone up against in his long centuries of life. But what was infinitely worse, and what deeply troubled the ancient lord, was figuring out exactly how he was meant to actually damage his opponent.

Sure, he could effortlessly reverse all of the fatal damage that managed to hurt him, effectively making himself immortal in a battle. But if he never managed to inflict lasting, lethal hurt upon Midwak, then there was absolutely no way for him to win this fight. A stalemate against a beast with boundless stamina was a losing game.

“Then, there is only one viable choice I have left!” Rowa hissed.

He reached deep underneath the shredded lapels of his pristine jacket. He pulled out two ornate, crystal flasks. The elegant vessels were cold to the touch.

He popped open the silver lids and immediately started to pour the thick, rich red liquid down his throat.. As the blood entered through his body, Rowa was starting to feel completely re-energized by it. The lingering fatigue in his muscles evaporated, and his blood aura flared outward with a blinding, terrifying intensity that visibly warped the air around him.

“I’m finally back to the peak of what I should be at,” Rowa declared, tossing the empty crystal flasks aside to shatter on the rubble. “So things are going to be a little bit different from here on out, mutt.”

Meanwhile, outside the front gates of the compound, the encroaching horde of Glutton Werewolves seemed entirely endless for the two defending vampires. They were now sure that all of the Glutton Werewolves that had been stationed at the White Rose base had arrived at the front courtyard by now.

And looking out over the sea of snarling jaws and matted fur, there were clearly over a hundred of them forming a suffocating, lethal perimeter. The vampiresʼ blood aura powers were undeniably strong, but the main, agonizing issue they faced was that the mutated bodies of the Gluttons were incredibly resilient to physical trauma.

They werenʼt able to kill the Werewolves easily. Each beast required a concentrated, lethal blow to put down, meaning Jin and Haylock had to use quite a bit of their internal power reserves to successfully execute them. And continuously using their demanding supernatural powers meant they would inevitably run out of stamina long before the horde ran out of bodies.

Jin threw his hand out toward the cracked concrete floor. Droplets of his volatile blood dropped to the ground right in front of several feral beasts that were blindly charging forward. The moment the liquid made contact, it exploded, turning the broken pavement and debris into lethal shrapnel right in front of their snouts.

While the front line of beasts was startled and confused by the blinding detonations, Jin seized the opening. He threw out a wide arc of his sharp blood aura to hit them, and then recklessly charged in to try and get a closer, definitive strike.

When Jin reached the thick neck of one of the staggering Werewolves, he threw a heavy fist out and intentionally exploded his aura at the point of impact, sending the heavy Werewolf flying backward high into the air.

However, right in the middle of his aggressive strike, a hidden danger emerged. Through the thick, swirling dust of the explosion, a cunning Werewolf had crept through the blind spot and was ready to strike Jin directly from his exposed flank.

The beastʼs razor-sharp claws were extended, completely ready to reach his face and tear his throat out. But before the fatal blow could land, a glowing red string materialized from the shadows, wrapping tightly around the Werewolfʼs muscular arm. The string was forcefully pulled downward, completely redirecting the beastʼs momentum and slamming its face brutally into the floor.

When Jin quickly turned around in shock, he could see that Haylock had expertly pulled another, entirely different Werewolf directly in front of him. Haylock had essentially used his red string to hijack a beastʼs body, using it as a living meat shield to block an incoming attack and forcing the monsters to hit each other instead.

Haylock had a significantly larger amount of experience than Jin when it came to being out on the battlefield and surviving in incredibly tough, unpredictable situations. Because of his centuries of warfare, he appeared to know exactly when to rein in his pride and be far more cautious.

“Stay back and stay close to my perimeter!” Haylock ordered, his voice cutting through the deafening snarls. “We simply can’t beat all of those beasts that are coming towards us in a direct clash! So the best thing for us to do right now is buy time and make sure we don’t get critically hurt.”

Unlike Rowa, who possessed the divine luxury of healing, if the two of them did receive serious, life-threatening wounds here, they couldnʼt just magically reverse the trauma on their bodies.

And to make matters exponentially worse, the feral Werewolf strikes still severely affected their natural vampiric regeneration, leaving burning, festering wounds that simply wouldnʼt close.

Heeding the veteranʼs advice, Jin reeled in his aggression. Haylock continued to use his aura to carefully tie up the leaping Werewolves, manipulating the red strings to pull them directly into the path of the others, utilizing their heavy bodies as makeshift shields. Thankfully for the vampires, these feral Gluttons didnʼt seem to be learning or adapting to the tactics. They lacked the intelligence to realize that the glowing red string ability was incredibly dangerous.

They just kept mindlessly, stubbornly charging forward. This sheer lack of awareness was allowing Haylock to use them as living barriers rather easily. But right now, standing amidst the chaos, what he wished he had more than anything else in the world was his own loyal men.

Because Haylockʼs unique string powers truly shined more than anything when he had a dedicated, trained puppet to use—someone who knew exactly how to move in sync with his aura. Eventually, the law of averages caught up with them. Haylock had swiftly wrapped his glowing red string around the thick throat of a Glutton that was simply too physically strong.

The hulking beast pulled against the restraint, planting its heavy feet. The aura stretched tight, humming with tension, and then it sharply snapped. The beast had completely broken through the supernatural string with nothing but its sheer, raw physical strength. Now freed, the monster was coming right at them, leaping through the air with its jagged mouth opened incredibly wide.

But before the beast could even shut its jaws around Haylockʼs neck, something metallic and heavy flew right past the vampires. It entered the Werewolfʼs open mouth with terrifying speed, slicing cleanly through the beastʼs skull and cutting it completely apart mid-leap.

With a closer, astonished look as the monster crashed to the ground, Haylock could clearly see what the lethal projectile was. It was a heavy, distinctively red-colored battle axe buried deep in the creatureʼs remains.

“Theyʼre here,” Haylock commented, a rare smirk crossing his face as he looked toward the perimeter.

(Sorry for lack of Chapters, been in UK for a two day event, and would pass out as soon as I got back to the hotel. No more event but still in the uk for a while.)
