My Werewolf System

Chapter 1768  A Ding Sound?

“I would really like to say I’m surprised, Gary,” Kai answered, his voice devoid of its usual calm lilt, replaced instead by a grim, heavy resignation. “But honestly? I’m not so surprised.”

Kai looked down at the mangled corpses scattered across the concrete. “The fact that we absolutely couldnʼt get in contact with them for weeks... when I first heard the scattered reports about the strange Werewolves ravaging this city, I logically thought this might have been the horrific case. With what these mutated things look like now, I’m not sure we would even organically recognize who it was underneath all that twisted flesh anyway.”

Right now, Gary was feeling far more than just slightly disheartened. A soul-crushing weight settled over his shoulders. He had just brutally taken out those Glutton Werewolves, and he knew in his logical mind that it was the absolute right thing to do. Given how much senseless death they had caused, and how they were clearly entirely out of their minds, it was a mercy killing.

But the terrifying reality was that the Werewolves comprising the missing Strike Force were those who were fiercely, unconditionally loyal to the Howlers. They were loyal to the absolute point where they had willingly chosen to sacrifice their normal, peaceful human lives in order to be officially turned and protect the gang.

Not every person in the Howlers was willing to cross that line and bear the curse of a Werewolf. And because of that brave, selfless decision they had made for him, they had somehow ended up like this—butchered in a dark parking lot by their own Alpha.

“It’s incredibly strange, though, right?” Marie said as she cautiously came over. She crouched down, her eyes inspecting the grotesque anatomy of the slain Werewolf Gary had just crushed. She was silently wondering if a simple bite was really what it took to biologically change a normal person into what they were currently looking at, and it certainly wasnʼt a theory they really wanted to test on themselves.

She looked up at Gary. “If they are officially registered in your System, and then the total number suddenly dropped because... because one of these dead guys was them, that explicitly means they were still technically part of your pack right up until they died?”

Gary nodded slowly, his fists clenching tight enough to draw blood from his own palms.

“I can almost say with a hundred percent certainty that this has to be Unzoku’s direct doing now,” Gary deduced. “At first, we got the blurry reports that these monsters just looked like Werewolves. We hoped maybe they were just another aggressive supernatural race that was biologically similar to us. But the undeniable fact that this was an actual Strike Force member confirms the worst part.”

Gary paced a few steps. “And regarding them still being in the pack... I can really only think of one ancient person who possesses the sheer power to make them completely break the fundamental Pack rules or forcefully override my Alpha commands. That has to be him. The fact that the Werewolf was physically warped like this as well... it has to be some dark, ancient magic that Unzoku has done to them.”

Just as Gary vehemently said those words, a sound pierced the silence of his mind. He heard something he hadn’t heard in quite a long time—a familiar, sharp ding.

[New information has been added to the database.]

[A new Class of Werewolf has been discovered.]

“What the... I didn’t even know the System could passively do this?” Gary mumbled, his eyes widening as he stared at the glowing blue text hovering in his vision.

“Do what? What are you looking at, Gary?” Innu asked, stepping closer.

“I’ll read it out loud, so you guys know exactly what’s going on,” Gary said.

[Glutton Class Werewolf]

[A Glutton Class Werewolf is a Werewolf’s body which has forcefully gone through a biological change where its primal hunger is never, ever satisfied.]

[Their bodies exist in a state of constant, agonizing pain as they feel the absolute, maddening need to constantly eat flesh.]

[It is a Class that is currently triggered by unknown circumstances. A Class that can override other Classes]

[It unlocks a special, passive trait where the hostʼs physical strength continues to infinitely grow regardless of the quality of what is consumed.]

[Note: Although, based on the inherent strength of what is consumed, the overall stat increase per meal may still be minimal.]

When Gary finished reading the grim description, a heavy, suffocating silence fell over the underground car park.

“Well, I think your stupid System seemed to conveniently forget mentioning about its damn, freaky stretchy arms,” Innu said, shivering slightly as he looked at the elongated limbs of the corpses. “And its rotting, zombie-like features and completely mindless obsession. These things are definitely vastly more resilient and physically powerful than just someone who has freshly been turned. I imagine a large chunk of the horde up there are just regular people who got infected.”

“So they are officially called Glutton Werewolves,” Kai said, resting his hand thoughtfully on his chin as his cold, calculating eyes looked at the massive pile of human bodies. “And the System specifically said it’s a Class. So, itʼs categorized just like my Shapeshifter class, or the Hunter class.”

Kai’s eyes narrowed. “But with one catastrophic, major difference. Itʼs not just their twisted bodies and appearance that sets them apart. Itʼs the fact that they get permanently stronger no matter what they consume.”

The others in the Howlers knew exactly how their own biology worked. They naturally got stronger and gained stats as they consumed high-tier beast crystals or the flesh of other powerful Altereds. It was a brutal mechanic the Werewolves had known for a long time to climb the evolutionary ladder.

But they also knew that at some point, when their bodies organically grew too strong, there was absolutely no point in consuming anything that was significantly weaker than them, other than just using it as a basic form of energy to stave off normal hunger.

And the one thing that never, ever did anything for their overall strength or stats... was humans. At least, regular, non-Altered humans. Devouring them yielded no power. It was only the dark curse of the full moon that made them lose their minds and go on a mindless, bloody rampage against mortals.

“It’s no wonder they’ve been aggressively going around the whole damn city just eating absolutely anything and anyone they come across,” Luzen realized. “The agonizing hunger that never stops, combined with the fact that even if they eat weak, normal humans they’ll still continue to grow stronger... both of those traits work perfectly together.”

Luzen gripped his bow tightly. “Itʼs an apocalyptic cycle. It is a biological machine that has been created purely to just kill, feed, and become more and more challenging to put down with every single meal.”

“And one more thing we need to face,” Kai added, his voice cutting through the gloom. He looked directly at Gary, delivering the final, devastating blow to their hopes.

“It is entirely safe to say that if even one single member of the Strike Force had been captured and turned into this Glutton Class...” Kai paused, letting the grim reality settle over the group. “And considering the fact that I wasn’t able to get in contact with a single one of them for weeks... we have to assume that every single member of our missing family has become a Glutton Werewolf.”
