My Werewolf System

Chapter 1781  The Masked Savior

Those terrified civilians that were watching everything unfold from the safety of the second-story windows couldn’t believe their eyes. Somehow, this seemingly regular human was actually able to physically beat a monstrous, mutated Werewolf to death.

They had witnessed it with their own eyes. After seeing exactly how well he had fought against the beast so far, dodging lethal strikes and landing heavy, concussive blows, they fully believed that the young man was something incredibly special.

Which was exactly why, in their frantic desperation and frustration, they had aggressively shouted out for the paralyzed Howler member to give him the spear in the first place.

“You guys... the fact that you were running specifically toward this area, you knew about this situation, didnʼt you?” Blake asked, pulling the bloodied, electrified spear from the monsterʼs skull and turning toward the surviving gang members.

The trembling crossbow user was startled for a moment. Just seconds ago, he was absolutely certain his life was about to violently vanish, right until this unknown individual had miraculously saved him.

“Ah... yes! These mutated guys... theyʼre swarming all over the entire city right now!” the Howler stammered, his eyes wide with leftover adrenaline. “The Howlers have been given strict emergency orders to help get rid of them and protect the streets!”

It was exactly as Blake suspected. A city-wide invasion. He needed to get to his specialized Altered Hunter equipment more than ever.

“I’m going to be taking this weapon,” Blake stated with absolute authority, gripping the heavy spear. He looked at the shaken gang members. “With no close-combat weapons left, it’s best you guys just stay out of sight for now. Donʼt throw your lives away.”

They couldnʼt exactly disagree with him. After witnessing the terrifying, surgical precision of what he could do in a fight, they simply nodded and watched in awe as he rapidly ran off down the street.

Elsewhere in the exact same neighborhood, near where the quiet residential street connected directly off to the bustling main road, there was absolute chaos.

Dozens of cars had violently crashed into each other as panicked drivers tried to flee. The mutated Werewolves were treating the vehicles like fragile tin cans, physically ripping off the heavy metal doors with their bare claws, and then ruthlessly dragging the screaming people out of their seats.

A terrified group of four teenagers, all around sixteen years of age, a mix of two boys and two girls, had desperately ran away from the slaughter, fleeing down into the quieter neighborhood street.

It was significantly darker and quieter than the burning main road. They had logically figured the mindless Werewolves were strictly focusing their bloody attention on the highly populated areas where there were more trapped people to hunt.

“Come on! Keep going! Donʼt look back!” Aero, one of the young boys, shouted, his lungs burning as he sprinted.

“We... we can’t keep running like this,” one of the exhausted girls cried out, slowing her pace as she clutched her side. “I need a second to breathe!”

“She’s right, Aero,” Astro, the taller of the two boys, agreed, his face pale with fear. “We’ll all completely run out of energy eventually, and those things out there... theyʼre impossibly faster than us. I think it’s tactically better if we just find a place to hide.”

“What about over there?” Sue asked, catching her breath as she pointed a shaking finger at one of the structures across the street.

It was distinctly different compared to the standard, modern suburban houses surrounding it. It had a large, traditional wooden gate out front, and from the outside, it almost looked exactly like an old, martial arts temple.

But as they drew closer, they could clearly see the weathered sign above the entrance stated that it was a Dojo.

“Heck yeah, thatʼs perfect!” Aero said, his eyes lighting up with a desperate sliver of hope. “Maybe there’ll be some sort of actual weapons we can use inside to defend ourselves as well!”

Quickly approaching the heavy wooden doors, they pushed them open. It felt inherently wrong for the good kids to forcefully break into a private place of discipline like this, but it was an absolute life-or-death emergency.

Just as Astro was quickly closing the heavy doors behind him, his blood ran cold. Looking through the narrowing gap, he could see that two of the mutated werewolves had just turned the corner and were aggressively coming down their specific street, sniffing the air.

“Hurry! Move! There are two of them right outside!” Astro panic-whispered, slamming the door shut.

The group had absolutely no choice. They rushed frantically past the traditional courtyard and then made their way directly into the main training hall of the dojo itself.

“Those things... theyʼre going to violently break in and find us,” Aero said, frantically looking around the empty room. “I could see it back on the main road! Even when people were quietly hiding in their cars, those monsters were easily able to smell them and rip them out! We desperately need some sort of weapon!”

The entire terrified group started frantically searching the training hall for anything sharp or lethal. But to their absolute horror, all they could find mounted on the walls were dull, wooden practice swords. Nothing real. Nothing that could pierce a monsterʼs hide.

Then, they heard it.

CRASH!

The heavy wooden gates at the front of the courtyard violently splintered and broke apart. A second later, the main doors of the dojo were kicked in, and the two Werewolves were standing exactly in the doorway, their glowing yellow eyes staring hungrily right at the teenagers.

“I found some sort of entrance! Down here! Hurry!” Sue shouted from the back of the hall.

The entrance she found was a dark, narrow staircase that led directly down beneath the floorboards. It appeared to be a storage basement of some sort. They werenʼt exactly sure where it led, and they knew logically they might be trapping themselves in a dead end down there.

But when absolute nightmares were actively chasing them, they just desperately wanted to get away, moving further and further into the dark, anywhere they physically could.

All four of them frantically rushed down the stairs, their footsteps echoing loudly, starting to wonder where they even were.

The basement was incredibly dimly lit, smelling of old wood and metallic polish. But as they continued to cautiously move forward into the shadows, that’s when they saw something else moving in the dark.

“AHHH!” Sue screamed at the top of her lungs, pointing a trembling finger into the corner. “It’s one of them! One of them is already down here!”

When the others violently turned their heads to look at the back of the room, they could clearly see the silhouette of a heavily furred creature. It was standing tall at the back of the basement, and its sheer size looked eerily similar to the monsters tearing the city apart above.

As the terrified group slowly backed up, that’s exactly when they heard the guttural, snarling voices of the other two Glutton Werewolves. The monsters had rapidly descended the stairs behind them and were now blocking the only exit, looking straight at their trapped prey.

“Damn it, weʼre completely trapped!” Aero cried out, helplessly clenching his fists around a useless wooden sword.

There was absolutely nothing they could do.

The two Gluttons from the stairs violently leapt right toward them, jaws open wide. At the exact same moment, the Werewolf that was hiding in the back of the basement aggressively ran straight ahead toward the group as well.

Sue tightly closed her eyes, bracing for the agonizing pain of teeth and claws.

BANG!

Instead of pain, she heard a deafeningly loud, heavy impact noise that violently shook the entire concrete floor beneath her feet.

‘I’m... Iʼm still alive?’ Sue thought, her heart hammering against her ribs.

When she slowly opened her eyes and turned her head, she saw that all the other teenagers had their mouths left wide open in absolute, paralyzing shock.

They had just watched the Werewolf that was hiding behind them seamlessly intercept the attack. Moving with blinding, impossible martial arts speed, it had violently grabbed both of the charging Gluttons directly by their heads in mid-air and brutally slammed their skulls straight down into the concrete floor.

Now that the dim light descending from the staircase was casting over the victorious Werewolfʼs face, they could clearly see that there was something fundamentally different about this specific monster.

It was wearing an iron mask.
