My Werewolf System

Chapter 1780  The Hunterʼs Instinct

The terrifying situation that was actively happening in the quiet suburban neighborhood had everyone on maximum alert. People frantically running away from the chaos had jumped over brick walls and fences into other peopleʼs private gardens.

The terrified homeowners had mercifully allowed the strangers to rush inside, locking their heavy deadbolts behind them. Now, a large group of them were huddled tightly together on the second floor, staring out of a bedroom window, anxiously watching the bloody situation unfold on the street below.

”Why isnʼt he running away?!” one woman asked, pressing her hands against the glass.

”Didnʼt you see? He deliberately stayed back to physically fight against that monster just to protect that crying kid!” a man replied, his voice filled with disbelief.

”Thatʼs absolutely crazy... is he a powerful Altered or something? Is that why heʼs acting so confident against a beast like that?”

”If he was an Altered, donʼt you think he would have fully transformed by now to save his own life? Heʼs taking that nightmare on barehanded!”

”Well, thank God,” another whispered selfishly. ”While heʼs busy fighting that thing out there, it means itʼs not coming inside after us.”

Down on the asphalt, Blake continued to fluidly dodge the blindingly fast strikes coming from the mutated Werewolf. He knew he desperately needed to land a heavy hit to try and actually do some permanent damage.

Thankfully, although the beast was terrifyingly fast and possessed overwhelming raw power, its feral fighting style was actually quite obvious and easy to read for a highly trained Altered Hunter. The monster would take heavily telegraphed lunges, wildly twisting its heavy body when going after him, making it significantly easier for Blake to predict and avoid the lethal claws.

Because of this lack of technical refinement, Blake was able to perfectly sidestep and slip inside the monsterʼs long reach. Then, when the beast violently wound up its arm to swing down a heavy, crushing strike, Blake expertly stepped back, planted his back foot firmly on the street, and violently spun his entire body.

‘Now! I have to put in absolutely all of my physical strength... all of my refined Qi directly into this single kick!’ Blake thought, his eyes narrowing.

Blake snapped his leg out like a steel whip. The heavy kick slammed directly into the Werewolfʼs exposed stomach with the devastating force of a cannonball. The sheer kinetic impact lifted the heavy beast completely off its feet, sending it flying backward until it crashed brutally into the outside brick wall of one of the nearby houses.

CRACK! The heavy impact violently fractured a large section of the brickwork, sending dust into the air, but the Werewolfʼs dense body wasnʼt pushed entirely through the wall.

”Crapping hell, did you see that guy?!” one of the spectators gasped from the second-story window. ”He isnʼt even an Altered, and heʼs fighting that ungodly thing with absolutely no weapons! Who the hell is he?!”

However, Blake knew very well from his years of grueling Hunter training that a single, blunt-force kick wasnʼt going to be nearly enough to actually take down a mutated creature like this. Which was exactly why he immediately did the only logical, tactical thing he could do in that dire situation.

‘I have to run. I have to get the hell out of here right now!’ Blake thought, instantly turning and darting his way down the cracked street. ‘If I can just make it back to the dojo, I can unlock my specialized Altered Hunter equipment and finally deal with this bastard properly.’

Looking back over his shoulder as he sprinted, Blake could see the infuriated Werewolf was already shaking off the impact and moving away from the ruined wall. He was desperately hoping the physical distance between the two of them would be enough for him to safely escape for now.

As he continued to run, that’s exactly when he felt something heavy and cold violently latch onto his foot.

‘What...? But how?! It was incredibly fast, but it couldnʼt have possibly been that fast to close the gap without me hearing it, could it?!’

When Blake frantically turned his head around again, his eyes widened in absolute horror. He could see that the Werewolf hadnʼt physically run after him at all. Instead, the grotesque monster had unnaturally stretched out its mutated arm like thick, shifting rubber, elongating its limb across the street to firmly latch its heavy claws onto his ankle.

”That thing can stretch its damn arms?!” Blake yelled.

Before he even knew it, he was violently yanked backward. His back hit the hard asphalt with a sickening thud, knocking the wind out of his lungs.

He was now being rapidly dragged back across the rough street toward where he was before. As he got closer and closer to the snapping jaws of the beast, he frantically kicked his legs, desperately wondering what he could possibly do to break the vice-like grip.

THWACK! THWACK! THWACK!

Suddenly, several heavy crossbow bolts came flying out of nowhere, violently hitting the Werewolf deep in the side of its head, across its ribs, and into its thick legs.

The specialized metal bolts immediately started to spark and heavily electrify as they buried themselves into the monsterʼs hide.

‘Anti-Altered equipment?!’ Blake thought, recognizing the distinct crackle of the voltage.

Blake looked over to the side. He could see that three armed men were aggressively running over, all of them wearing the distinct black and gold uniform of the Howlers. One of the gang members was holding a heavy tactical crossbow, and the other two were fiercely gripping special, heavy-duty spears—lethal weapons with sharp, conductive ends that could unleash thousands of volts of electricity.

When one of the brave, spear-wielding men got close enough, he forcefully shoved the spear tip forward. He aimed for the chest, but the beast shifted, and the blade hit the Werewolfʼs shoulder instead.

It had successfully pierced the muscle, but it had only made a relatively small, superficial wound, hardly piercing the monsterʼs impossibly tough, mutated hide.

The Werewolf hissed in pain, instantly letting go of Blakeʼs ankle. Then, with terrifying speed, it reached out and grabbed the thick wooden shaft of the spear before the Howler member could even trigger the electrical shock.

”Do something! Shoot it again!” the struggling Howler member shouted, his boots skidding on the asphalt as he engaged in a futile, terrifying tug-of-war with the monster.

The panicking Howler with the crossbow rapidly fired again, hitting the beast squarely in the chest. But the heavy bolts appeared to do absolutely nothing. Ignoring the painful voltage, the Werewolf violently pulled the spear shaft, effortlessly ripping the weapon—and the terrified man holding it—forward.

”GIVE ME THE SPEAR!” Blake shouted, scrambling to his feet.

The second spear-wielding Howler member was completely frozen in pure, paralyzing terror, his hands shaking as he refused to charge in and help his brother. And that’s exactly when they all watched the engaged spear attacker get violently pulled directly into the beastʼs reach. A single, blindingly fast swipe of the monsterʼs razor-sharp claws to the manʼs neck killed him on the spot, blood spraying across the street.

”GIVE HIM THE DAMN SPEAR!” frantic voices suddenly echoed, shouted loudly from the open windows of the houses that had been safely watching the situation from nearby.

The Werewolf dropped the dead man. It slowly turned its glowing yellow eyes toward the trembling crossbow user, coiling its heavy legs, fully ready to leap and tear him apart next.

Hearing all the desperate shouting noises from the civilians, the terrified, frozen Howler with the second spear finally snapped out of his daze. He forcefully threw the heavy weapon through the air toward Blake.

Allowing his honed Hunter instincts to take over, Blake seamlessly caught the spear mid-stride. He continued to aggressively run ahead, building up incredible momentum, and then violently jumped high into the air. Placing absolutely all of his remaining physical strength and refined Qi directly into the tip of the heavy spear, he thrust it forward with devastating force.

The electrified, Qi-infused blade violently pierced straight through the side of the Werewolfʼs thick skull, shattering the bone and destroying its brain. Blake and the monster crashed heavily down onto the bloody asphalt together, the spear buried to the hilt.

Eventually, the dust settled. Blake was seen slowly standing back up, breathing heavily. At his feet, the mutated Werewolfʼs body lay completely motionless and lifeless.

Blake looked down at his trembling hands, his face hardening with absolute resolve.

”I need to... I need to get back to my dojo right now.”
